RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
Absolutely you can use this thread for your build or make your own!
Alex you could use an old ear plug to fill the hole if you have one laying around. Just cut it to fit.

OK, will do. Sadly, I have to wait. Checked with the shipper and due to "computer issues", my order didn't ship till today supposedly. Will post as soon as I get to start.

Smart thinking Casper06! Never thought of that I ended using the thickest tire foams I had cut them to fit and used a rubber grommet from a servo spline in between and another rounded out tire foam sandwich style....hopefully seals it nice and tight!

Yea gotta be different sometimes! Depends on if I want the scale official colors or not...for instance the Scorcher is no professional car or anything so I went with this:

RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
First run today on the DF-03Ra after cleaning/rebuilding/relubing the ball diffs front and rear. Front was a bit too tight so I just blasted it around and I think it loosened it up a bit enough to my liking without taking the diff apart lol.
Temp on ESC: 178 degrees
Temp on 4600kv at 29/75 gearing was right on the dot 160.2 degrees
That was with the DF-03 dust cover on and consistent bursts of full throttle and full braking every 5-10 seconds....sounds like I got my gearing right on the money. Is the ESC too hot at 178?
I think 200 degrees on the ESC is what to avoid right?

RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
Beater body + loose dirt short course/buggy track + DF-03Ra = SCALE RALLYING!!
Unfortunately only I was there practicing so no cameraman for action shots. (I went RC'ing for about 6 straight hours yesterday lol) Good to have an unexpected off day on Friday!
This is their 1/10 track when I put on foamies. It's so grippy that hard turns sends you either 3 wheeling through it or rolling your car!
Nice scale damage....I like how the side of the bumper seems like it's separating if that was a 1:1 collision
(What really happened is this young driver about 9-10 y.o. I was teaching him a bit on racing and he wanted to try his new Slash 4x4 on the touring course. He clipped me on my tail and spun me head on into a wall)
No biggie that's why I have this beater body I run and a scale Subaru Monte Carlo WRC Peter Solberg #7 body for display!
Wish Tamiya rereleased their 555 sponsored Impreza WRC! Or at least HPI would rerelease their 95-96 body and do it Colin McRae style!

RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
OK, so I got it yesterday and built it. The kit went together very fast and easy. The only thing I changed was adding 4x850 bearings for the steering rack. I have to now just finish the body, but I promised a build thread, so here it is. Sorry for all the pics, wanted to do a step by step build. I've never taken the time to do one like that.

RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
Sorry for the pic quality. It was pretty late when I finished the body. Man those stickers take a steady hand and plenty of Windex for the windows. I will use this body as my beater hence no light buckets. I have another on the way which will be the shelf body. I'm going to use a darker shade metalic blue on that one. This one came out a shade too light.

Offroad the DF-03 cover did its job (well the best it could since it was fine sand/dirt/hard clay and the other track was sticky tarmac. On road this thing easily slides a little too much on HPIbelted rubber tires...and of course the rally tires were even worse on tarmac....went to foamies and it had great grip!
I can see how this car can easily be used as a drift car with the weight distribution. But that's not big at all here in Texas...short course/1/8 nitro and brushless buggies/flying seems to be the only trend that I see. Ido race Bajas every Sunday with a local group about 8-12 altogether.
I wish Ilived in CA! Lol.
Loving this car even more now with that 4600kv!Great combination with 29/75 gearing too. Just enough low end and high end power.

RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
Hello everyone, thanks for all of your posts as the form is very informative. Based on all of your information I have a Lancia Delta Integrale DF03Ra coming from Tower. I also have a slipper, Dark Impact body, aluminum motor mount, and heat sink posts coming from RcMart. I bought a new Traxxas 2075 servo from Ebay for $17.52 shipped to Canada.
My plan in getting the Turnigy 60A V2.2 ESC, EzRun 9T motor, and the program card from HK.
I was also looking at the new Castle Creations Short Course set up:
[link]http://towerhobbies.com/products/castle_creations/csec0090.html[/link]
For batteries I was looking at the HK:
Turnigy NanoTech 3300 3S 25-50C: [link]http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=11923[/link]
and
Turnigy NanoTech 3300 2S 25-50C: [link]http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=11922[/link]
Based on aflipz battery compartment size these should fit. Someone stated that they were going to get the Turnigy 3600 2S 30C [link]http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9504[/link]
Did the battery fit?
How about the steering linkage? The stock one looks like it utilizes bearings and not bushings. Any advice for a better linkage or is the stock working well?
How about any wheel and onroad tire combinations?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It's going to be like Christmas for the next few weeks!

The steering linkage is the only thing thing that does not have bearings. So much for A "FULL BEARING" car. LOL You'll need 4 8x5 bearings.

RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
Thanks, the PDF of the manual shows the items as metal bearings MB850 (part number MB10 x 4). I take it they are 5 x 8 x 2.5?
Ok next topic, LED's. Never done them before but if I want to trick out the body with some LED is the Tamiya kit ok, a bit pricey though. How easy is it to hook up a 9v battery to some led's. Where is the best to locate some of the items required.

RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
I have no idea when Tamiya started calling bushings metal bearings. Everything else is refered to as ball bearings by them. LOL The tamiya unit is nice but takes a lot of space and you'd need the second unit for flashing effects. It costs almost as much as a kit to get both! I'd recommend either the 3racing or yeah racing light kits. Cheap and work great. Try RCMart out of HK. PS, yes, thats the right size. Any LHS will have them for around $10.

RE: Official DF-03 Ra Thread
I have to agree the 3Racing LED kit works well and is way cheaper than the Tamiya stuff. You could even do things like have your turn signals flash and brake lights come on with it.
