First time I heard of staple in the drivetrain!!!!! LOL!

ORIGINAL: []TEX[]

Checked the pinion...nothing

Checked the spur....nothing

Free spun the axel and a slight clicking....

Re-assembled the diff and it's ok...

Test ran again and still a slight dull clicking...[:@]

Ran up the drive train at full throttle and a small staple flew out from somewhere, most likely from a screw bag.

No more clicking...

A better gyro would be http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXVA42&P=0 It is a HH type with smm.
Way more accurate and way less temp sensetive.

I am not sure if a head holding gyro would work in a car, as I only care about the rate of rotation... (if the car is spinning out..) I'd guess HH gyro would be great for drag racing?!?! (going only one direction, so you want the car to hold absolutely straight toward that direction..)

But who knows, wouldn't mind getting one to try it out, though.. but it is 2x the price..

Same thing w/ an integrator built-in, no?!

Currently, the gain on the gyro set at 75%..

Arranged the electronics so the gyro is in the dead center, and with nothing blocking on the side so you can adjust the gain easily..

The gyro also sits on top of the special thick foam type double sided tape...

When setup the gyro, make sure that it is oriented correctly so it is countersteering, instead of oversteering..

Here's a short test video of the gyro and steering.. in the video you can see that when the car is turned one way by hand, the servo turned the wheel the opposite way to keep the

I know people use this to assist in drifting (so you don't loop it...).. HPI sells basically the same thing called DBox.. I think they are basically the same thing.. the Futaba gyro is like 1/2 price, though.. as it is not a fancy / trendy / drift thing / dBox..

It is interesting driving it w/ the gyro for sure.. seems like it is a lot more stable, BUT, also, much harder to turn now, due to gyro trying to "correct" your steering even when you want to turn..

Good thing that gain is adjustable!

Maybe need to dial up the EPA?

It is interesting for sure.. need some playing w/ setting for sure.. will try to do some shake down at the track this weekend.. (argh, too bad, the Mamba won't be here in time... [:@])

It is also very strange to have something driving the car for you.. you are just not used to seeing some of the car's behavior.. very interesting..

It would be fun to use a modified gyro to make a traction control.. basically, take the absolutely value of the gyro output, and reduce the throttle based on that output..

So when it sense a rotation (either direction), it will back off the throttle automatically..

That would be interesting too... Not sure how to do that, though.. LOL!!

Precisely why I suggested the HH type. It will hold coarse yet when input is given it will not try to over ride it.

Bob,

You need to explain to me how the HH gyro functions.. or maybe I need to look up the manual.. I see that it has 2 input harness into the gyro.. hmm..

Because right now, I still want the gyro to countersteer when I am steering, right?? (i.e., when I am turning, which is when the rear end steps out under power, I still want the gyro to counter and overwrite some of my steering inputs, right?)

Good discussion...

I guess basically, I don't want to just hold a straight line when the steering control is neutral..

I mean, while helping me drive straight is great.. the biggest help I'd want is coming out of turn (so the steering input is still not netural) and getting on the power.. I want the gyro to "catch" the oversteering..

I need to find out how exactly the HH gyro works first.. I mean, not physically how it works (integrating the rate change), but how it interacts w/ the radio control gears / servo / inputs...

TEX, I think you will enjoy checking out my F103 tomorrow.. LOL.. it is quite interesting for sure...

Sometimes the gyro would create this "headshake" behavior..

It is not slow, but I don't know about 28mph!!!!

Maybe w/ a Sport Tune?!

I ran w/ TEX today (yes, I bashed w/ the nice body ).. his direct drive w/ Sport Tune was quite a bit faster than mine.. so I am sure mine is probably only going low 20s, if even that...

It is geared pretty tall... light weight direct drive.. I think if you put the Tamiya SuperStock in it, you can push it over 28mph...
