I was thinking more along the lines a FA-82 is 1.3 ozs. lighter (without its muffler) and is still cheaper.

Almost ready to run up the 100 Chipmunk! I found I have a MAS 14x8 and got a 2 1/2" spinner. While it sticks above the cowl a bit, it will work for now. The LSH did not have any red 2 1/4 spinners nor any APC 14 x 8 props. Very limited selection of props mostly oddball sizes and electric. I finished the plumbing and got the tank installed, all the electronics are aligned and set, just have to put the cowl back on and finish the details on it. Then take it out to the bench and fire it up.

I can. The run up bench is on my driveway, so will have to move the truck out of the way to do it.

I do my engine runs in the driveway too. I have to be careful though the grass on the side yard doesn't like glow fuel and mama don't like oil stains on her concrete.

Mine is gravel, so oil can be helpful, especially if it can kill the weeds that keep coming up. I go through a gallon of Roundup concentrate a year to keep[ the weeds down. My most hated plant are the damned burr weeds. I attack them with extreme prejudice, those damned things get into the horses tails and manes and are a biotchtuchy to get out.

My son is battling the same thing the neighbor's yard is infested with sand burrs.

Thankfully this year I got the flea infestation under control. Last year it was nasty, none of the treatments were used to use worked, and some of the flea sprays that were supposed to be safe for cats made a couple of them sick and we lost one from it. My cat was so sick that I thought we would lose her too, she wouldn't eat or drink, and the vet had her on IV for two days before she started eating again. She is fat and happy now. Turned out that the flea spray uses peppermint oil, and it can be poisonous to cats. The Vet recommended Bravecto, which is very expensive, but it worked, and lasts 3 months. We treated them all at the first sings of fleas, and haven't had a sign of them since, also treated the grass around the house with Bayer stuff for lawns.

now if only it were that easy to get rid of the rodents, but alas Country living has it's drawbacks every winter.

Yes it is. Even with fleas, ticks, chiggers, poison ivy, burrs, pit vipers and predators attacking our livestock it's worth it.

Yeah, but can also be heart breaking when one of your last barn cats gets hit by a car in broad daylight. Happened to our little Mozzie last week. I saw her laying in the grass by the house and she didn't get up and run away when I got close, which she usually did. She wasn't crying out or making noise, but just laying there. When I did get close enough she got up and I saw her back legs weren't working. Her left hip was displaced, but her right hip and leg were shattered so we had no choice but to have her put down. I never saw her crossing the road so that came as a shock to all of us. The dog keeps looking for her too. She used to come running up to her and rub against her. She was solid black with pretty green eyes, and would lay in the window box.

Sorry to hear about the kitty. My saito bearings outlive most of my cats around here. Too many large predators running around.

I do have one that's 7 yrs old. He has the bat signal on his side, black on a grey background. I'll take a pic if I can catch him off guard. Not likely.

It has been just too hot to fly here so I was looking for a project to do in my shop. I had a Saito 56 that had notchy bearings. So, I decided to change the bearings. Later in the evening I ran the engine on the test stand. I gave it 5 minutes running very rich to re-seat everything and then set it up for normal running. With a 12X8 APC I was getting about 9000 RPM top end and it would idle under 2000 RPM with my home brew 3% nitro fuel. At times I could get it to idle at about 1700 RPM. I ran a second tank through it, and I could no longer get it to idle under 2500 RPM. By this time, it was getting dark, so I took the engine back in the shop.

After a couple of emails on what to look for I tried the easiest first. Valve lash. When I put the engine back together after bearings, I set the valve lash at .002” and a .0025” feeler would just drag a little. Now after running it on the bench it was at .006” on the intake and .008” on the exhaust side. Way too much. I reset everything back to where I had it. I ran it again in the morning and it ran fine. I was back to an idle under 2000 RPM. I’m not sure what caused the change in valve lash but just to be safe I have a new set of pushrods on order.

I don’t think I could have screwed up that far on initially setting the valve lash. I do know when I put the engine back together, I did not pay attention to putting the same pushrods back in the same position. My thought at that time was if I set the lash it should make no difference. Now when I disassemble an engine, I will put the intake and exhaust pushrods back in the same place.

Is what happened normal or have I done something wrong? I’ve not had a shift in valve lash this far in such a little amount of run time.

By the way, in looking for an extra set of pushrods they were $8.99 at Tower and $5.99 on Amazon shipped from Horizon. Guess where I ordered them from.

A nicely finished model tho never owned a 56, nice pic of the conley engine i've since been to their website, they do some beautiful stuff there.

Pete i agree with your tappet clearances, use a cigarette paper to do mine cold as the gap only increases with temp. It's possible you mixed them up but i think no matter what, pushrods always/sometimes rotate and seat themselves during the initial run.

ps lonnie do you think that was a long post or three by some members about cats, fleas, ticks, burrs and legal weeds, perhaps an old fashioned afternoon screening of the 1980 movie caddy shack would relieve the tension when they see how bill murray dealt with mr gopher? it was an inspiration....

Up until 3 years ago I used the Saito provided feeler gauge, .0059" then I switched to the OS gauge .04mm. I never had any kind of issue using the Saito gauge though.

I have a NIB Sig Rascal 110 slated for my Saito 150, when time allows, I'll build/assemble it.

I have been getting that call for weeks now. I answer but never say a thing and then the recording kicks in. The other two robocalls are the extended car warranty is expiring call (I don't have a car warranty) and credit card services recording that never seems to mention the name of the card or the issuing institution. The few times I do get a live person I just set the phone down so they can waste their time going thru their spiel until they figure out I'm not there anymore.
I haven't gotten one forever but the fake Microsoft Support call gets a "I don't own a computer" or gets strung along by my wife to see how long she can keep them talking.
