Welcome to Club SAITO !
Thanks. With your appreciation for old timers I had a feeling you would like it Mike. I really missed not having a 3-channel old timer around after losing my last one to old glue joints. I'll maiden when the wind dies down.
Thanks Gary. I cheat a little with 3-channel birds by mixing rudd>aile at 100%. I take off using the left stick for rudder and then fly using the right stick for rudder and elev.

Thanks for the tips along the way,
yup, seems the gunk from crankcase came down(inverted) and messed valve seat.
i turned valve with pliers a few times around and knocked it too to make rapid movement up/down
and it reseated back perfect!
primed engine, flipped few times with hand and it works!
hope this was all the fuss with Saito and now it should work for 10 years w/o problems

Thanks Dave, yes a TF 12x6 Nylon prop and a Higley Heavy Hub.
After reading up on old nylon props shedding blades I'm wondering whether or not I should risk running the TF nylon. Should I boil the prop and run it or just use the prop for display?

The only thing I know about the nylon props is from my McCoy 36 days, the prop tips move way forward at high rpm. I personally never broke one.
I finally came up with a tool for removing the rocker pins from Saitos, I cut the shank from a Wiha screw driver and put it in an unused 3/8" chuck, it takes them right out and so far the blade has not bent. The little 30-s only has two gaskets, they are the rocker cover gaskets, no back plate gasket nor a cam housing gasket. Neither leaks on either on my 30's.
It's still raining from some storm.
Ugly, I know, works great.

I use to boil them but I still had a couple shed blades, I would keep it for display then again I prefer wood props.

The fa30 is rated for .5 hp. I would expect to see:
APC 10x5 at 11200
APC 10.5x4.5 10800
APC 10.5x6 at 9800
APC 10X6 at 10500
APC 11X4 at 10600

Lonnie,
Those numbers are close to the Master Airscrew 11 - 7 numbers that we got out of the Taildragger Saito 45 Special with the sausage muffler. The fuel was Cool Power 10% , straight synthetic.Itcould easily spin 10,800 but I fattened up to 10,500. I had intended to try it on a MA 11-7.5 on my home brew 14/14 (2% castor) fuel but didn't find time. By all reports the engine is running great.I really enjoyed that one.

I was tracking progress on that 45S you worked on for Taildragger. It was making a touch more than the .7 hp it's rated for when you got done with it. Looked like it flew his plane with authority too.

I found an APC 10 x 6, the Max attainable rpm is 9,370 with an occasional gain to 9,390 due to a part time breeze.
Of course my numbers seem right because that's what my tach says.
Numbers from yesterday:
Bolly Clubman 10.5 x 6, Max rpm===8,890
Bolly Clubman 10.5 x 5 Max rpm==10,030
Xoar 10 x 5 Max rpm===========10,580

Hey guys, how are you all taking off this cam cover? The last Saito 60t I scratched up because I really do not have a big flat head screw driver. Trying to put this new cam in and keep the cam cover clean! I also added the new cam beside the old so you can see the problem .
Yep, time for a correctly fitting tool. A snug fit, radius tip flat blade driver. ....Heat too.
Lots of pressure pushing the bit into the slot. Steady firm turning.
Folks here often scowl at real tools and you may see a vote or two in favor of a washer on edge and a Crescent wrench, maybe a hammer and chisel
Maybe not.

ps, who are these limp wristed willy nillies having trouble removing rocker arm screws??
Dave just a quick note on your ex bill robison fa30 black painted cylinder, have you tried a quick coat of paint stripper on a small area? from memory my fa30 pulled 10600 and ripped a mas prop on the bench.

Yeah,
Sounds like a epidemic of welded rocker pivots. Wonder where that came from?
Was that a 10-5 MA prop?
