Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hard starting. Forces on board glo battery and gizmo. Lack luster power production from an already poor weight to power engine design.
All my radials run 15/15% with castor and like it a lot.
no glo driver, easy starts and get you out of trouble.
Best yet.
No Dead SticksIMHO

Running on a life would be a plus. My buddy wants one for a Saito radial he is running obg on.
Interesting vid Jim. Did a search on the Goodyear F2G Super Corsair and appears a few of the 10 made were used for air races. As I'm not truly found of the F4U Navy Blue color scheme it looks like I may go for this F2G color scheme.

Very nice, you just reminded me of a US Aircore Colt 40 I have NIB, I flew one with a SuperTigre 51 Davis Diesel conversion. One of the easiest planes to land I ever owned. If and when I build this one it will get a Saito 56. It will be a tricycle.
Either way it sounds Sirius-ly awesome!

1200Sportster, yes, the carb it attached to the rear cover with only one fastener. There is no choke assy, though, and the LS needle has a thumbscrew.
So far I found it looks like my 56 is remarkably close in dims and the gasket set, pushrod covers and some other bits would be compatible. The carb ran before he dunked it so hopefully requires nothing beyond clean up.

I run all my everyday radials with this set up. Currently a Saito R 450, a Saito FA 325 five cly, a OS FR300 five cyl and a Evolution 7-77. All four the same system. All idle and fun without glo on 15/15 fuel
Basically the same set up as the oem manuals indicate.
I did check the Crain product. Looks like a good system. Only a four clyinder set up max offered? Maybe use two for more clyinder applications in series or something.
I think a German company makes a similar unit but also only offered up to four cylinders also.
I tried several systems in the past, but found them unnecessary ultimately. And I am not a fan of electronics I don't care to use the batteries in general.
Jus me tho....
Where's the "totally jealous" emoticon when I need it? Slobber, slobber, drool, drool. I need to go change my shirt.
Are you able to get OS twins to idle without glow power? I've had 3 of them through my shop in the last couple of months and none of them will. Saito twins, no problem.

My OS and Saito twins both run at idle and are reliable also Lonnie. Same system in singles thru triples years ago at Toledo Aldon Kelly, (manufacturer of Merlin Glow Plugs) encouraged me to allow at least thirty seconds of lighting prior to starting. He explained that with the glow plug system, better results are obtained by heating the head and upper combustion chamber before attempting to start. That has been my method combined with fuel and tuning. All about the same.
Thanks Aaron, could it just be the OS twins weren't broken in far enough to idle without glow power? All three had excellent compression, no intake tract leaks, OS "f"plugs and a fully leaned lsn after about 80 ounces of 15% nitro fuel run through. Still, a cylinder would flame out after about 10 sec of idling on both fs120 Gemini-1 twins. The fs160 Gemini twin was better, taking about 30 sec to drop a cylinder. Hmmmm.
My Gemini 120 purrs like a kitten without GP assistance. I know eventually the 120R3 will as well, but will still use it for starting it, right now it will idle about 2100 without OBG, 1700 with it. What I like, no plugs or loose wires to connect to that mar the lines of the plane. Bad enough I have 3 switches sticking out underneath. I will have it shut off at just under 1/3rd throttle and eventually have it off just above idle for starting. I'm still working out where to put the refueler and crankcase vent.

Good clean fun 👍

A low and slow with a three or four blade prop is going to bring tears to the eyes of any Veterans in attendance.
WaitMaybe a victory roll.
That's the ticket!
Had it on a pietenpol camper for a while.
It's not currently in rotation at the field.
