FPE is First Place Engine- gasoline powered. Mine is a 2.4 (40cc). A ST2300 is a Super Tigre 2300.

My FPE has 3.1 bhp @7300 running a 20-10 prop. and 18 lbs of thrust.

Altogether with muffler the FPE 2.4 weighs 3.25 lbs.

I would think that should pull this EDGE to the moon. But it don't.

Where do you get these ROTO 35's at? I've never heard of them. Seems like it puts out more hp than my FPE 2.4 with less displacement but same weight.

I tend to agree with the less pitch more diameter, and here comes the BUT, I would use a tach and be careful not to exceed the manufacturer's max rpm numbers. Less pitch will cause rpm to go up however, there is a trade off. You will notice a drop in top speed of the aircraft and gain in verticle performance up to a point. A glow motor is designed to turn approx. 12000 rpm, don't expect your gasser to match that. Where a change of prop pitch on a glow motor may give half again the rpm change (8000 up to 12000) a gasser will probably not gain as much due to the internal mass of the engine.

Also be careful in just accepting HP numbers that you read in the ads. Many times the only way to acheive those kind of numbers is with tuned pipes etc. Also, HP can, and I feel is often, published based on calculation rather than actual measurement. There is also a difference between BHP (brake horsepower) and HP (also commonly refered to as indicated horsepower) which is oftened based on theoretical calculation rather than actual measurement. Some ads rate theirs in BHP other give it in HP. Do a search on the net for good info regarding horsepower values.

I just don't get why this FPE 2.4 doesn't pull this 140 size Edge verticle. It is a 40cc engine that is pretty light compaired to other engines on the market and has the same HP ratings. There isn't too much to tuning on gas engines. Set the low end and then match the high end with the low. As long as it doesn't quit while the plane is pointed straight up you should be fine.

It runs great BUT . doesn't have the power it should I guess.

Some engines take time to brake in and give full power. Have you tried to adjust the needle settings? Prop sizes and brands to see what works best on that engine/air frame combination.
