can you elaborate on that? I have a composite Bandit and a Bandit Arf due soon so I would be intested in a comparison between the two.

I got my Bandit ARF as well last week. I really was wondering how come the price of the ARF is less than that of the composite kit. I can see now why.

The material is very different. Have you ever seen a Composite ARF Extra or an Impact? The material is very similar, very thin and flexible. The wings are not carbon, more like Epoxy glass. They are way lighter than the Composite Bandit. There are no airbrakes either on this one. Again, I don't have the instructions yet so maybe the airbrake needs to be cutout or something.
Overall, airframe is VERY light, but more flexible and feels weaker than the original Composite Bandit.
I think the best way to describe it is that there is no longer a 25lb thrust class requirement to go ballistic with this one. This is deffineteley a 14 lb class airframe. My Maverick feels heavier than this beast and it flies on 12#'s.
So keeping that in mind, my 3.5L tanks should provide for very long flights on a P-60/Superbee. I would only use a P-120 if I had one to spare or laying around in the shop doing nothing. Looking at my Super Balsa bandit LG, it should last forever. Way overbuilt for this animal.
If it's true that lighter flies better, buckle up for this one!!! This amy be one of the best sport jets ever!!!! That's my humble opinion.

RE: Bandit ARF arrives!
Dave,
Many Thanks,
Just as a side issue, am I correct in assuming that a detuned 120 (say to 20lbs) would have a quicker spool up time than a max rpm P80.

David,
thanks for that quick reply. I will am looking forward to getting mine. One last thing, whats the paint quality like is it the same standard as the comp bobcat for instance? I intend to put a Wren supersport in mine which will give it pleanty of power in the verticals and also keep the weight down.
Nick,
Just get one!

hey MATT, there is alot of balsa bandits out there that were designed for -.96 df power that are flying years later WITH 120's. you have to use throttle management thru-out the flight not just leave it full on. i guess the moral is that you have to be smarter than the airframe

The Balsa Bandit was not designed for a .96 DF....
I had 17-19lb thrust turbines in mind as a minimum.
(Ram 750, P-80, Sophia 850)

Bob specifically told me NOT to get this plane ( i think he'd rather me not have any of his planes ) , and if i did to use no more that a P70's worth of power. it is not built for all out speed or getting heavily stressed with G loads. If i was putting a P120 in one of the ARFs, i would not detune ( there is no point in detuning in my opinion ) however manage the throttle carefully. Full power can be useful sometimes to get out of trouble, and is great for verticals out of slow flight .. Just be careful !
on the other hand Don, why throttle back on my BobCat ? its taken power-management-less abuse for now over 90 flights on a p120, and another 20 now with the 36lbs JetCentral Rhino ( with some power management on this one now ) ... I don't think a bandit would have lasted me more than 1

I had my hands on a Yellow version, but when I picked it up my friend (BVM Rep) offered me the white and he'd clear it for me for free so I agreed. I get to paint mine, which is kinda cool.
Trust me, if you are a Bandit addict like I am you will have a big smile for the next 7 weeks or so.

The wings of the classic are almost identical to that of the super version, just the gear door cylinders were moved inside the wing.
My friends classic BB started out life as a DF and was later converted to turbine.(ram 1000) this airframe has flown hard, landed hard, pulled hard etc. No question about the strength of this wing as it was originally designed.

RE: Bandit ARF arrives!
exactly my point, thank you, note that we are talking about balsa's not comp and the supers are a larger fuse in width to specifcally acomadate the larger turbiness and support gear

You guys are great!
Off and running!
Jason if you are interested the finish on my kit is good, they have been hand buffed so it's up there with the best Bobcat I've seen.
No Airbrake shown or needed...Flaps are bigger than any previous Bandit.
Servos other than Flaps are all shown as 94.. series JR large midi-I'd have prefered full size but hey...
It seems only the nose door has an air ram so no mains to worry about.
Wing fixing is the same as the old Super Bandit, same sort of hatch on the bottom for access.
As std it comes with 2.7 ltrs, but it would take the third Kevlar tank if you wanted to use it.
There is still a lot of contruction-but for anyone who has built a kit Comp or balsa version it's a lot less work.
The wing formers are in-with mounts, nose formers are in with mounts.
Anyone who wanted a Bandit but didn't want to build one, your dreams have been answered!

I guess it all depends on wether your P-70 is OK with 2.7L of fuel.

RE: Bandit ARF arrives!
Hi,
I designed the Wings and Stabs for the Balsa Bandit for Bob.
FWIW, they were designed in Pro-E 3D CAD.
As far as I know, the Bandit in general was all done in house at BVM.
They were the first of the Bandit series to use the new all metal main retracts that have a construction very similar to the Mig 15 retracts I designed!
My own very early Balsa Bandit was flown with the Sophia 850 (a great combo, and very fast).
ALL Bandits were designed for Turbines from the beginning!
The Balsa Bandit had a little extra MARKETING push for the FAN guys since it offered more area, and less weight... but make no mistake, it was designed for turbines!
Have Fun!
David
