Hi Stern,

Great job, I am looking to buy a KT after I get done with Christmas.

I noticed you bought a Metal gun barrel does the KT come with plastic barrel or just a cheaper grade of metal.

Thanks

Dave

Hallo Dave,

thanks !

The Tiger II comes with a metal barrel, but the Tamiya size is not scale [] - so I bought this special Tiger II barrel. [sm=tongue_smile.gif]

Stern, they were called "debris covers", they weren't on all KT's (I think they were made in the field). I'm still looking for some pics. I've enclosed a line drawing. I'm not sure if anyone makes them or not.

Stern

I see for the suspension you went with the Modified Torsion Bars. I went with the WECOHE suspension kit. To be honest I wish I would have went the route you have taken. The WECOHE kit is nice but takes plenty of time to install and adjust and is expensive. It actually took me a whole day to adjust it the first time and in the end I was not happy as once I added the gear boxes the chassis had a nose down attitude. I had to go back and readjust which took another 6 hours or so. I must admitt that once the WECOHE suspension is set up it works nice. My chassis looks good running over some obstacles and ther suspension handles everything just great. I just hope I never have to adjust it again. If so a set of the modified torsion bars may end up in my KT as well. [X(]

Hallo Wayne,

I know the wecohe version just from the look ... but what I saw was not scale - it was too soft, but maybe this were wrong adjusted versions . My aim was to avoid the Tamiya fault - too short torsion bars - so the modified version is a very nice solution

In front you see the two Tamiya and all the rest are modified torsion bars (they do fill all the place out):

Here we have parts of the "Modified Axels" and the "improved track adjuster system":

The improved track adjuster system without special screws ( I will put them later on):

Very nice Stern. I have a King Tiger on order and was wondering if the upgraded wheel bushings are worth it. I am considering buying them. I also want to buy the driveshaft support. Is the POM better than the brass one?

Hello Stern,

Enjoyed the post.

I too am currently building the KT. And enjoying it immensely. It about 75% done now.

This is my second RC tank. (I started out with the LEO and have about 80 hours into that one. But still have about 20 hours to finish the details and camo).

The KT is simpler of course, but a pleasure to build nonetheless. So far I haven't considered any aftermarket items, but your post gave me some ideas. I wasn't aware that the escape hatch wasn't scale. Food for thought.

I just primed the tracks today with the Tamiya surface primer. Ill probably wash them over with a black wash and then spray on some brown and sand, and then rag on a little rust on the edges. Although the tracks on the KT aren't as good as those on the LEO, I thought I'd give them a try for awhile. Maybe metal ones will follow later.

I'm leaning towards a factory fresh unit for the western front, but haven't yet decided on the final paint job.

The digital sound recording of the Maybach is something else. I prefer it to even the best rap music.

If you get a chance to see the little clip of the two guys hand cranking up KT at Samur, you'll really appreciate it even more.

I pretty much spray paint everything, so what where a lot of the time goes.

When this is done, The Tiger 1 or the Pershing will follow.

Chow for now and have fun.

greg

Thanks to all !!!

Hallo ssocr,

some think that the metall version would produce abrasion ... I do not have both, so I can't compare them on my own ...

Hallo stcla1r,

it took 3 months, because Tamiya was not able to react on a new european law for tin-solder as fast as they had had to [:'(] - this is funny, because these kind of laws are announced long time before they become effective ! My camera is a simple Canon Powershot. [8D]

Hallo greg,

yes, it is a very nice tank !

And the Maybach sound is this kind of sound that makes the world turn around it's a hammer !!!

I think you mean this !?
[link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSmgMzFdv4M&mode=related&search=]Maybach Sound [/link]

But one problem I do have with the Tamiya sound - the sidetone of the engines if you give power to them and the sound is not louder than 40% - the tank is too expensive with a kind of problem like that - no Heng Long has this problem [X(]

Buy a Tiger I - shurly one of the most impressive tanks [8D] [8D] ... and do not forget the Panzer III from HL - I am thinking about making a Strumgeschuetz of it ...

Greetings

Hallo Eugene,

I hope that it will be not too scale, because 38 km/h in 1/16 is really slow - to answer your question: Only thing I know is that the new gears will be a complete system to reduce the speed and get more power - let us cross our fingers that they will be a hammer !

Greetings and merry christmas !
