the idea i had was to make a new tub chassis for the hl tiger from aluminim replacing the sstd springs with roller bearings and 5mm dia brass rod to hold it all together use the new metal arms on the outside and the old plastic ones (as they are now redundent) on the inside with a new coil spring attached to it for the suspension all ive got to at the mo is a mock up on the old plastic chassis

yea but just because a 1/12 scale isnt your taste and he wants to try and actually make somthing out of one dont call it crap thats almost as bad as the whole tamiya and Hl debates this is a hobby with people who like different scales and brands when people start calling other kinds of tanks crap it kind of takes the fun out of it . and half of the fun is making a rather plain toy looking tank and making it into a beautiful piece of historically correct in some cases tank that doesnt just collect dust.

Your very right, Aslvrfrost98csvt.
I did use that word and didn't mean to put anyone down for having the 1/12th, or a Vs, I need to be more carefull about what I say. What I was trying to do was get some new sparks flying and it has worked. Like I said many more positive come backs then negitive, did not mean to insult anyone, especially pscartozzi, that guy is always coming up with cool new mods. I wish I was as clever.

Your Pershing is a fine piece of work. Just beautiful paintwork and detailing. I notice you have three antennas on it, two of which appear to be functional. If so, can you elaborate?
I really like your A-Team van too. Definitely an urban assault vehicle of a sort...

I just replaced the stock PzIII springs with stiffer springs. It turned out the stiffer springs are pretty stiff, which is good. I had to cut around 3/32" off the black plastic spring spacer to relieve some compression from the spring and to allow a little more travel.

RE: When are we going to see some more work on modifying these Tanks?
these two piccies should explain a bit with the gearbox clearence had thought of the torsion bar but as they are inline and not off of centre like the real Mc Coy then there wouldnt be much point init.
hopefully sort this when i re-do the chassis tub and hopefully make heng-longs wrong, right
hope this helps explain the set-up better as it really tightens the suspension up and stops it being floppy.
did i mention it is also adjustable[8D][8D][8D]

I see, I like it a lot. I think it will be very solid. Like the adjustability and ability to interchange common tension springs.

RE: When are we going to see some more work on modifying these Tanks?
the idea came when i felt the weight of my new metal tracks/ gearboxes and thought plastic pin that breaks, thin integral spring mounted into a 1MM plastic hole and thought somethings gonna go.
coupled with KTs adjustable idler i think it will be pretty tough
also the bearings that go in the hole where the old spring sat are std tamiya car bearings
so you could say mines a heny-tam tiger or will this offend to many people hope not

RE: When are we going to see some more work on modifying these Tanks?
hi johnmar the side of the tiger looks standard as the arms are basically in the same position.
the roller bearing is the same as you would find on any tamiya race car/buggy the hole i.d. is 5mm as is the hole in the suspension arms i used solid brass rod bought from R.S. components and is a nice tight fit into the arms.
the only thing you need to do that is a bit tricky is drill the old plastic rod out (if its not broken already) and drill throgh 2 pieces of aluminium angle keeping it all nice and level hope this helps.

one question, how do you stop the suspension arm spining from the brass rod you repalced. Is it a tight fit(on purpose) to stop from spinning.

yes it is a very tight fit had to drift it in with a nice hammer once i was happy with position of arms and travel i will drill and pin the arms to the rod to stop movement

Just opened the Tamiya Panther box, installed gear reduction units and a mount brace arrived from Daryl Turner (waiting for a few more upgrade parts and then I will get going).
