I think those Xtreme parts look great. So if you are going for asthetics then you did awesome. If flight performance is your goal I'd return them. (except the canopy) I'm finding out these heli's are extremely sensitive to additional weight. Just depends on what your goals are.

Well, you are half right. The skids are obviously heavier, however the CF tail boom is slightly lighter than the stock rear tail fuse and cuts down on wind defelction slightly therefore it is a slight improvement on flight performance.

Ok, this is going back a few years to my RC car days and lexan, but, becareful with the black paint, you will be able to get a transparent effect with it. Some of the lexan paints are pretty solid ( white / black/ and sliver come to mind ) while others are quite transparrent ( candy colors and metalics. )

When painting from the inside, by the color you want and if not black, white, sliver, buy a can of white or sliver to back it. You will get a much turer (sp?) color.

Me, I like blacking with odd colors. Infact that is why my canopy is the color that it is. The can color is metallic candy purple, but I backed it with OD green ( hay its what I had! ) and then painted that with more of the purple. I got the "candy coon-maron flake" flake that I was going for, so it all worked out.

Xtreme boom and skids:

Pros: Looks nice and can be painted

Cons: Is heavier than comparable booms, skids are not shock resistant, limited battery options

CF-Boom from BoomTown + unbreakable skids:

Pros: Is cheaper than Xtreme product. more resistant to crashing, Looks cool too.

Cons: I can't think of any.

That sounds like a good tip, and im not to sure on sp either lol

Looks like it could have been an impulse buy that might not pay off then........... ebay boomtown hobbies ...........

I'm not sure if you can get this over ther but J Michael suggested this a while back. "PACTRA rc294 window tint " It looks awesume on his with a silver canopy.
I was wondering about using liquid mask on the inside window then spraying the main color. Has anyone tried this? Also, what's a good airbrush for rc ? Thanks guys!

Well coincidently, my xtreme kit showed up today. I have already painted out my Canopy. I picked up some metallic turquoise and Fastint Faskolor paint. Certainly not the best job, but I tend to rush RC bodies a bit as I know they just get beat up/broken anyway so I am not to attached.

I am actually pretty disapointed with the entire package. [] Firstly, The canopy is very lightweight and probably won't last as long as the stock ones. The window mask needed to be cut down so that the edges on both ends didnt hang over. Next the CF boom. Wow, is this thing ever poorly put together. The CF boom itself is the best part by far. It looks slick and will probably last forever, however the mounts, particulariy the one that mounts to the body, is crap. The screws wouldn;t thread properly into the coresponding half, they give you this garbage 2 way tape that is suposed to hold the boom to the mount which is a joke. and the part of the mount that slids into the boom is 4 seperate peices that cave into each other holding the boom in place. This set up is very sketchy at best. I was under the impression that this would much more solid.

I had to do my best to CA glue this thing together as I don't want o be pickng up peices off of the ground. I wish I had bought the one off of BTH. I am just glad I didn't ge the skids if this boom is any indication of their quality. Hopefully my unbreakable skids show up soon so I can try this set up out.

These mods are for looks only, they just look like a pro chopper...........

Bijan999 what do you mean ?

I thought the carbn boom would help in wind conditions, but is there drawbacks to the rest ?????
Carbon boom will help in windy conditions and outside flight. I failed to mention though that the tail boom by Boomtown hobbies is lighter and less expensive. I'd go with that one.

True, compared to stock they might be a bit lighter. I keep comparing everything to Boomtown hobbies CF tail boom which is the lightest on the market. Not to mention cheaper than the Xtreme boom.

Ya, I wish I had gotten that one as well. I imagine it is more sturdy to. This one is more smoke and mirrors than sturdy. It feels more like assembling a revel plastic model than RC heli parts.

I used the masks provided, but if I do another, I may try that. At least a paint brush will fit down there where my fingers won't!

I don't know about that. I used hemostats to put the masks in place and even those where hard to fit in there. I think you could get a brush in there but you coudn't be very accurate with it. My mask would have turned out better but the edges peeled up in one spot. The tint actually worked really well. I put it on thick and you can still see the LEDs well. It looks better than black which is what I used to use.

Big Green Machine

It does look really nice (the caopy) was the paint edge lifting due to not leaving it long enough to set ?

But like you said its not going to be an easy life or a high live expectancy for a canopy so getting an incredible finish would be a waste of time after a few weeks of hard landings

You can totally see the undercoat of OD green where the other color was too thin. But that is what I get for trying to paint outside when its about 20 degrees ( felt warm to me... )

Here is my CX2 with my new Extreme canopy. I used Tamiya Camel Yellow for the body, and Smoke to tint the canopy. Also the Boomtown boom, with the fin shortened, and the "unbreakable" skids. I may paint the tail yellow to match. Have not decided how many (if any) of the Extreme decals to apply.

That paint is on the inside. You can tell by the gloss on the canopy. It may have come off when he applied the base coat voer the metal flake, it almost looks like it was brushed.

Good news for me, my indestrucatable skids showed up from boomtown today and man am I impressed. I was expecting the to be rubbery but they are atleast as sturdy as the stock units except they won;t break, and if they do they have a 1 year warranty. I was able to test the whole set up today and the boom seems to be holding together pretty well. I glued the hell out of it however, every joint on it, which I would recomomend to anyone else building on eof these. Don;t even waste your time with the rinky dink 2 way tape they provide. I even glued the boom braces and mounting halves together.

Nice !

Good advice to glue everything

I was looking at the skids on this cx2 and wondering, yes they might be "indistructable" but will they really help or be more trouble then there worth ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGzSYrdBS8c

Im thinking if they spring back up it culd cause a whole load of trouble

Ita painted form the inside. The problem is that I rushed the job ( I have issues - lol ), I used rattel cans outside, and it was about 20 degrees in my garage where I was painting. I was having trouble getting the paint to spray and then stick to the nose. When I backed it with the O.D. green, it filled in where the other color did not. I'm a little dissapointed, but I'll get a new canopy when it warms up.

Big Green - nice job on the window. I started to stick one of my masks down, got my fat fingers stuck, and gave up. I used masking take on mine, and got a little bleed through, but thats what the extra "window" lines are for.....

Liquid mask would work well, but cutting out around the bottom of the window might suck

No, functionally they are the same as the stock. I had seen that video as well and wondered the same thing but that isn't a problem. These skids are the single best upgrade on my heli. I have crashed hard already and it hasn't bounced at all. I had broken 4 sets of skids since I got the CX2 and it is nice to not have to worry about hard landings anymore. These are bulletproof and not rubbery at all.

Rattle cans:
Areosol cans have that short stub for spyaing, I found it very easy to get my airbrush to spray out the nose area as it is long and narrow and got pretty good coverage in ony 2 quick coats.

1 point though, they never use to break so much till i put training gear on ........

My canopy did come with window masks, a separate sheet from the decals. But it is a pain to get them in as my fingers are too long (and too fat) to get down in there. I ended up with a couple of runs, which I scraped off with an exacto knife. Then I used a transparent paint for the canopy. I didn't want a solid color, as I want to see the lights when I arm the 3-in-1 unit. If I do another one, I might use a brush for the body color, as it is hard to spray down into the canopy as well.

Exactly! ! They are worthless; and they bleed in the edges.

Get some liquid masking film from tower hobbies and paint it on; clean lines. You can pick up some pactra lexan paint while You are there.

Gary,

I got some of that from my LHS and I have not been pleased with it. It doesn't peel off like it should. Should I be preparing the surface to be masked somehow?
