You boys bite well
So do you guys not agree that the Ultra Bandit has influenced the design of the Ultra Lightning? Go on, admit it, you know it has

RE: Ultra Lightning at last!
Hey Darcy,
How's she looking now? Thinking about getting one of these.
Need a sport jet to replace my Boomer XL. Been toying with Viperjets, Super Scorpion etc.
I've had a Flash and a Lightning before but am thinking of the Ultra. Not had a chance on the sticks of one - how do you think it goes compared to the classic Lightning.
Cheers,
Mark

Mark hows it going mate,
I was just in the UK and thinking of you and Dave, I will be there next week for a few days, Basingstoke..
Anyways my UL is coming along kind of slow, I still need the gear, I will be burried in work from now until Dec 15th, then Its on, I will finish it and start flying it like mad.
I tell ya, I flew Andreas Ultra Lightning for a couple Months and got real comfortable with it quick. After just a few flights I was at home. I just love it, so Big and SO powerful with the 160SX, the Ultimate Sport Jet IMO...
Heres the deal, the Flash is also a great flying sport jet that can be flown by beginner's with a little coaching, this Ultra Lightning can also be flown by pilots of all skill levels, I tested the slow flying characteristics and there are no bad habbits, it stalls straight and level and it really takes a lot of paitence to get it to stop flying, I was demoing the slow flying at CA Jets and everyone agreed it flew so graceful, wheather it was balls out or just floating around.
Next Year my UL will be in every event on the west coast, the colors are unique and Loud, I cant wait for the fun!
Cheers
Darcy

RE: Ultra Lightning at last!
Hey Darcy,
Shame. If I wasn't so swamped at work we could have caught up!
The Ultra flies so well and now with the trailing link gear I reckon it would be a great grass machine.
So, plain White and bad ass paint or the simpler route of the UL scheme in custom colours!?!
Cheers,
Mark

RE: Ultra Lightning at last!
I ordered mine at the jetpower 2008.
After I saw it flying and saw the beautiful yellow UL at the Composite-ARF stand that now belongs to my buddy Scheur, I definately needed one. I think it is the most sexy sportjet at the mo!
My goal is to make the Ultra Lighning "ultra Light".
I already ordered a carbon wing tube and also a titanium thrust tube will be installed ( 1 lbs in the waste bin)
I'm going to install a Jet-1A landing gear, this is much lighter then the original "composite-arf gear".
We already tried this in a UL wing and it fits like a glove.
Power will be the amazing new Jet-cat P-160SX and JR 8911 all around to control this bird.

I ordered the carbon wing tube via Troy build models. http://troybuiltmodels.com/newsite/p...es.html#metric
They claim it is stronger then a alumium tube.
I made a picture of the Jet-a1 leg in the UL wing of my friend.
Will post it tomorrow.

Would you or your buddy have any detailed pics to share?
Regarding a 1lb weight savings thru wing tube & pipe...
I've been using Troy Built's carbon tube in my classic Lightning and it's definitely stronger & lighter than the aluminum. It comes 40mm x 1050mm, so you have to shorten it a little. I never actually checked the weight difference, but you can feel it when comparing to the stock aluminum.
I also use Tam's pipe which saves about 7oz in the tail. I assume the Ultra Lighting uses the same pipe, but you would have to check. You can get the pipe from Tamjets or Dreamworks.

and how about the pipe, who and where do i get one? 1lb. lighter ?

The carbon tube is about 7 oz lighter and I suspect the titanium pipe is about 10 oz lighter, that wil makes it about 1 lbs lighter. Also the Jet-A1 landing gear is about 3.5 oz per leg (1 retract, 1 strut, 1 wheel/brake assy) lighter then original, so that makes another 7 oz.
Ofcourse I'm going to use lipo battery's for the ecu and receiver.
We weighted the Ultra Lightning straight out of the box and it weighted about 17,5 lbs so I think 30 lbs without fuel is possible! :-)
Scott, yes this one belongs to my buddy. I will ask if he can make some pictures. There is already one posted on the Super Scorpion discussion.
