RE: My Fly Eagle Liberty arrived!!!
Hi Scott,
Yes, it is my drawing/design these days though, my dream jet has changed somewhat to something scale haha.
Anyway, as mentioned, I had originally bought an Olympus for the Liberty but sadly it would not fit in there at all. I spent some time throwing around the idea of putting the Oly on my Kingcat and putting my booster in the Liberty but couldn't bring myself to take an engine off of an airplane when it's such a good combo.
So, I put an ad here on RCU and ended up making a deal with David Hudson, David's Crusader needed a little more punch than it originally had so I traded my Oly for his Merlin 160.
So that's what the Liberty will be getting is a Merlin 160 MKII.
I'm pretty confident in the Liberty being strong enough for high speed, there are a couple minor things I will change that I will highlight in the build thread but overall the airplane looks super strong, there is lots of carbon fiber and nice big spars and formers in it. You can guarantee that I'll be testing it hard

RE: My Fly Eagle Liberty arrived!!!
So I started doing some work on the Liberty. I decided to repaint it since after flying my Bandit I decided all black airplanes suck LOL!!! So before I started building and repainting, I decided to make a couple of modifications that I had originally wanted but didn't happen. Primarily this involves the Stab and elevators.
I always wanted the airplane to have Anhedral, this lowers the elevator further and should give a little better authority with the wing location. It also looks very cool. The other part I never liked was the sharp angle that the stab mated to the fuse with, so I made some nice fiberglass fillets to smooth it all out and blend it together. I also recut the elevator cutout in the stab and glued the piece to the elevator so that the elevator tip is angled instead of 90 degrees to the trailing edge. I'll be able to spray primer soon and start painting, then the building will happen!
Here is the factory pictures:
Uploaded are my changes

I think it looks better too I hope that by lowering the stab tips it increases elevator authority a bit more, not that there's anything wrong with the stock stab, I'd just like to use a little less throw if possible, and if it does nothing, it does look cool The fillets should clean up the drag on the rear, whether it will be noticable or not I have no idea!

I assumed they made the elevators so dang big because they would blank out from the position of the horizontal stabs therefore needing to be gigantic. Im sure with your modification they wont need to throw as much!
Nice mods!! Looks great!!
Im going to get one of these one day!
BTW if i were you id paint it red!! LOL!

Well, I got some paint on the fuse now, nothing fancy, just visible, my camera phone couldn't pick up the color worth a darn, it's a Ferrari Red on Top with a Lamborghini silver on the bottom (kind of a gold color actually)
Should show up better than black

Hey Raf, yeah, hopefully I can see the red!

When I saw your composite bandit for sale, I thought about it but it is black. Bandito's can get pretty small and "needley" looking when they get moving and that composite bandit would get familar with my full throttle thumb pretty darn quick if I owned it!

RE: My Fly Eagle Liberty arrived!!!
That A10 is one of the sunset models (or something like that) from Greyland, Wa kits. It's the biggest piece of junk kit I've ever seen, this one was supposedly "pro built" by the crew down there for my friend Andy. He drove down and back to pick it up (8hours) and stopped by the shop with it on his way back. I looked at it and told him "send it back".... It is extremely heavy, has the worst glass work I've ever seen, none of the surfaces fit well, Andy was able to pull all the hinges out without problem, all of the openings in the fuse (wing saddle, canopy etc) have no flange, it's just a sharp fiberglass edge. The original finish on it was horrible, one of the worst I've seen, bondo that wasn't sanded, pinholes everywhere, the nacelles and hatches didn't fit etc. The inside fuse formers weren't even glued in well, Andy was able to remove them without tools!
Andy did a fin job in fixing it to be solid, but I fear it will always be just a static model. His plan was twin EDF's, but my guess is by the time it's all up and ready to go it will weigh about 35lbs, not cool for a plane that size, 17lbs max I would think it should be.
Very disappointing for Andy to say the least, if I was him I would have accepted nothing less than a full refund including his money wasted in gas to pick it up. In the builders defense, they did give him a partial refund at least, it's to bad this A10 will never actually be fly-able.
