From a RCU post looking for a Kommander canopy "Thanks for the suggestions. I checked with SIG and they no longer make or supply them. They suggested trying one of the WWII style canopies. The GP P-51 looks pretty close. I'm going to give it a try". FYI.

Does anyone have a Sig Komander NIB they would like to sell? If you do and don't want to sell, would it be possible to get you to trace the foam core and send it to me? I need a new wing to get my Komander back in the air. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Hey guys here is an update on my komander repair. I have decided to take an inch off the fuse and replace the old vertical and horizontal stabs. I think it will look far cleaner and more to scale. I'm considering retracts as well but would be pushing the weight to over 7lbs by doing so with an OS FS 70 I motor. I think she would still survive however. There is a small amount of wing repair necessary and I am replacing the cowl with a new fiberglass replacement. Most noticeable is the damaged canopy which cracked straight over the wing. If anyone has or knows where to get a replacement canopy please inform. I will submit more pics once finished.

I've been looking for a canopy for my Komander as well. If you go to tower hobbies and look at the replacement canopy for the top flight p-51 mustang, it looks pretty close. I will get back to mine after the holidays. I have a few things I need to find first.
Let me know how the canopy works for you.
Good luck
Jay

I just received my canopy from parkflyerplastic and I must say I'm pretty impressed. The canopy was $8.00 plus shipping. The canopy frame was highly detailed, and it even has the marks to show where to cut the canopy out. The only disappointing thing I can say is shipping speed, but if your not in a big hurry, this place is well worth looking into.
Also if you need a cowling I understand fiberglass specialty is the place to go. I believe the cost there is around $30 to $40.

Yes, its from FS.
The outline fits the inner measurements (the firewall) perfectly.
However, the ABS cowl is approx 3/32" thick
The Fiberglass replacement is approx 1/32" thick.
Therefore, the fuselage sides will be approx 1/8" higher than the cowl, all the way around.
You would either have to sand the fuselage sides really thin, or build up the cowl flange to match the same finished height.
If anyone wants a new cowl for either the King Kobra, or Komander, I am not going to use either one that I have.

That was the kit I sold......the reason I know this, is because he was the buyer, also, I added that pilot figure and wheels into it!

Wow Red7fifty, I have not heard this about F.S. I was told there cowl was just like the original only in fiberglass instead of the ABS that Sig used. I might need to come up with a mold so I can make my own. Their cowls and other items are not cheap, you would think they would be better than that.
Thanks for the information

Red,
I just bought this and I think it is your old one since it has a set of wheels and figure in the box. That first ebay deal in Oct must have fell through because it is the same listing (kit) as the link you posted.

Yep, That seller bought one of my kits.....those are the wheels and pilot that I bought from SIG for the build. However, I know he is a collector, so the actual kit may be a different unit from the one I sold him.
