Usually I make them by hand, one at a time and I have made dozens.. Very easy to do at home with basic tools. The intake hole is finished with one of my favorite tools, a file. Being a metal model maker by trade, we are not usually doing production quantities. The trade is to make intricate parts, one at a time, often with most basic tools. The parts must however look better than production parts in most cases.


I am making some basic forming tools since there will be a hundred or so. The last time I used a Wales Strippit was 1979 at Metal Specialists in Warren MI.
Due to the proximity of the hole edge to the 90 degree bend, the hole will be sized last, after forming is completed.
I have access to a small Chicago press brake but it is not at all a must have. The simple home made tooling could be just as easily used in an arbor press or a vise rather than a Press Brake.

So the base is pretty cheap for you to mix your own. If I start flying more I will have to consider giving it a try. I generally lean toward a Nitro of no more than 15% and either synthetic oil or a combo with a little castor oil for protection. I use Marvel Mystery Oil for air tools as my after run oil do you have a better recommendation?

When I catch the local depot right, I can get methanol here for under $3/gallon too.
The methanol varies in price a bit like gaspoline. The biggest cost is usually oil.
Been very busy lately teaching skilled trades apprentice classes. Need to make a trip out to central PA to deliver a rather large transmitter. Figure to bring back 80 or so gallons of methanol .That will be next month. Nice trip and I can meet up with some PA ham radio buddies.

Most any ARO is better than none. I try to avoid anything with Stoddard Solvent ( much like kerosene) Check the Safety Data Sheets

I would offer more advice but kerosene should stay away from the presence of flam(ers).

Thankyou for thinking of me, I've just been through two weeks of hell, my nether parts all got infected, today I feel fairly human. The Eligard shot made me sick again, imagine having your balls laid on a stump and then stomped on, fortunately that went away in a couple of hours.

As to the 80 I've been working on, I installed a new piston and ring, new cam and lifter, two new valves. The exhaust leaked a tiny bit, the new ones do not leak at all. In the picture the cylinder looks so good because it's brand new, I didn't expect that. When I'm up to it, I'll run it with an APC 13x6.

We decided to skip Texas this year due to the mess the idiot in chief did with the border, so looks like Utah is our destination. A fellow coworker of mine is in PA this week, but doesn't have any cans with, or willing to carry any in his Jaguar. Is the difference between methanol and ethanol the source used? Methanol is wood alcohol and ethanol mash alcohol? Why can't ethanol be used?

Two totally different fuels. In some applications they are interchangable, in many, not.
Ethanol in it's natural form is what makes booze. Methanol on the other hand can make you dead.
Methanol cannot be made non poisonous. Even harmful when absorbed by your skin. In fact, methanol is what they add to ethanol to keep people from drinking ethanol.

Some folks have used ethanol with mixed outcomes.

A somewhat amusing family story. I remember my father use to get my mom's goat by telling people he married her for the family sour mash recipe. She was a teetotaler but I heard when she was growing up her father knew every still in the county. Grandpa would go partake of what was left after the revenuers got done with it and carted the owner off to jail. I have heard it told some leftovers could last up to three days. He would only drink it onsite you could get busted trying to carry it home. When I was a kid he was pretty up there and about the only thing I remember him drinking was the odd beer on a hot summer day. He died at 80 just short of my 9th birthday. He still smoked his pipe too.

The front bearing has but a very light load. The rear takes the bulk of the radial loading and virtually all of the end thrust in normal (tractor) installations. I like to use sealed front .

Mike a flying mate sent me that pic said the guy pushing the wheel chair looked just like me, sadly he does. Has anyone heard from Dave? I'm hoping he's loaded a whole wheel chair full of beer into the beer fridge next to the engine run stand, a bunch of plastic straws and he's good to go, be feeling much better tomorrow

Thanks Pete, I must be a glutton for punishment, we got our first Covid shots Thursday, the place was very organized, no vehicles lined up around the block, no cranky people. We saw a place in Fredericksburg that looked like a mob scene. This is my4th good day and improving.

My CHI equipped 125-a is in the PSP ready to play. The new, to me, 80 is ready for a run also.
