Cowls are ok if you don't have a round enough boat anchor. Singles have that "bb in a box car look. Lol

I really hate to cut into a nice looking cowl. They start looking more like bikinis than a cowl.
Another option is to use an inverted or upright (pitts?) muffler for those tight spaces. I used one on my Force One just to keep the model clean. They work well but boy are they loud.

Yeah me2, I opt for proper inlet baffling and air dams with smaller outlets vs hacking huge openings in cowls. I picked up a never flown giant scale CMpro Zero a while back for cheap. Had a Zenoah G40-something in it with monster cutouts in the cowl. The cowl really does look like bikini bottoms. Lol. I picked up DLE55RA For it and need to close off the cutouts on both sides of the round cowl. It's not going to be easy to make it look like it never happened.
I did look into Saitos for it but the cowl is too small to fit sufficiently sized twins or radials. This Zero will be my only 2-stroke powered warbird. I'm not terribly excited about that.

I think I have enough. The inlet is basically through the fins and the outlets are nearly all around the back, should have plenty of exit air. Heres a better frontal view. All laser cut baffle.

Have you run it yet with the cowl?
When I first flew the P-40 w/fa-65 I had overheating issues. I had to keep run time on the ground to a minimum. I closed off the bottom inlet and drilled more holes on the bottom of the cowl and it was better but still eventually overheated. Now I have a huge opening on the bottom so hopefully the fa-56 will run cool.
