RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Hi..
I have an TT-01E with the Ezrun 9 turn brushless kit and a 2 cell 5400 mah LIPO battery, geared 25/55 and i goes 44mph/70 kph with no problems at all.
I upgraded with, metal motor mount, better steering links, alu centershaft, full ball bearing incl. steering and oil shocks.
Kept the original dogbone setup, and it works fine for me.
The car handles pretty good, and the big advantage is that it's so easy to work on, and it seems to plot on forever.
I also had an aluminiumupgraded TT-01, but it didn't go any better so I sold it, so now i have a Jaguar XJR C-chassis(original), Mercedes Atego TL-01 race truck, and the Subaru DF-03 RA(Atkinson).
Cheers.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
70 km/ph[X(][X(][X(]!!!!!!!!!!! WOW, (but u are on 2s lipo though) ok well is suppose my next question is what gear ratio would be ideal to allow drifting but still allow a fairly high (decent speed) with a brushless setup like that?. my tuned (brushed) motor with pinion/spur gear setup being 19/61 isnt exactly fast but im guessing thats what a motor of its power requires to drift and not overheat.
Thanks

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Im not into drifting, but is 19/61 the original setting on the TT-01D?
It's always a good idea to start with the original setup and then try with larger pinion later, I would stick with 19/61 and see how it works.
I havebeen driving with 22/61, screws i "D" on the motormount and it worked very well, it ran about 37mph/60kph.
I also have the Ezrun 8.5 turns kit anditseems to havemore torgue than the 9 turn, that would probably work better for you?
Cheers.

Yes the stock/original setup on the TT-01D is 19/61, and like u said ounce u get a better motor, you can always have a play around with the ratio/s.
The 8.5 may be better for me for drifting, but i would also like to change between driftin and actualy on-road racing (just a quick tyre/wheel change really), so i might want the extra (but few?) rpm that's possible outt of the 9 turn motor. Considering this stockish tuned motor is about 16+ Turns, i dont think a 9 turn brushless even with higher gear ratios would mind. lol the tt-01d drift tyres are pretty gripless in the first place
Thanks

guys dont forget that the wheels you use has alot to do, if you do demo drifting or race drifting. tires have diferent tractions, with the speed you apply.

Im running the same set up as SoerenJensen and are hitting the same speed, but it is only good for a few speed runs cause the motor/esc get hot. Best thing to do would to invest in all the suprs/pinions and just keep gearing up untill you find a speed/torque that you like wile keeping the temps cool on the motor/esc. I belevie i have my gearing set up 23/58 and im getting speeds to the piont where its almost to hard to control but still have enought torque to pull/push it thru coroners.

the 3racing cooling fan got installed, shoe goo'd it to the side of the futaba reciever, just over the motor heatsink, hope it helps as i like to run a few packs one right after the next as my play time is limited with 2 young children!

Heh, nice going Cydog - those radials are OWNED!
Makes me wonder if Ishould drop my Hitec 15-turn esc into the tt-01 and find a motor to match...

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Hello all, i had an idea but im unsure if i should try it. Here it is, i have an old gravel hound frame/gears (entire transmission system). My TT-01D has plastic Ring gears and plastic bevel pinion gears, whilst my old gravel hound has all metal (alloy) ring and bevel pinion gears. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to swap the plasic gears out of my TT-01D with the metal ones outta the gravel hound. I just dont trust those plastic gears, and surly they wont have a long lifespan either, however i do realise that they are light. The metal gears are a little worn but are in relavitly good condition. Hope fully these photos will show it

You could try them but I don't know why you would. The gears that come with the tt01 are build like a tank. If there is any gear you should worry about it would be the spur and pinion gears. Those are the first to go. I have not heard of anyone having gear failure in there diff gear.
Thanks, the idea wouldnt work anyway (well a part wouldnt), the metal bevel pinion gear off the gravel hound had a spaceing of metal on the back of it that was longer than the plastic bevel pinion gear that came with the TT-01D, so i could still techically use the ring gear, but after what dfiantii said i dont think i will now.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
after installing the new 15t and novak ESC, i started hearing this clicking sound, pretty sure it was the prop shaft that was warped. but today it started t make a whiiiizzing sound ontop of the clicking, i kept going and then i started to loose power. went home, cracked open the motor/spur/pinion cover to discover this:
i guess this is what happens when you accidentally install the 20t spur with the 61tpinion rather than the 19t...oops!
i got my hands on a novak brushless system, but when i plug it it in, none of the LEDs light up, fully charged battery and everything. any ideas? can you get ESCs serviced?
thanks.

cydog510, Jump on to team novaks site (teamnovak.com) and search around. You can get it serviced but its going to cost you. You need to print and fill out a form and mail in your esc. When my HV 6.5 ESC blew it took about a month to get it back. Best thing to so it email them and see what they can do for you!
Make sure you have all the right wires hooked up to your ESC and remeber to bind the ESC to the RX. Maybe that will help.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Imodded my chassis today. After bashing around i hit a small rock and fliped hard and striped out the front of the chassis where the shock tower screws into. Well this is what i came up with and seems to be really solid.Ill let the pictures explane them self. Just remeber if youdo this not to over tighten the nuts or you will split the chassis (like i did on the front)
Slim.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
brilliant! the screw holes where the rear diff. cover on my chassis are stripped, i stuff shoo goo in there when i need to take it off and on, but this will do quite well, thanks.
on another note, i discovered my alluminium prop shaft is indeed warped, so i put in the stock plastic one, when i installed the new sup/pinion set, man does it make noise! upon heavy acceleration i was hearing a "whapping" sound, as if the shaft was hitting either the chassis or the steering assembly. got a new allum. one on order so not too worried. i am really wanting to install this brushless!!!! $70 seems a bit heavy, but i suppose you gotta pay for the fun.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
thought the capacitor might be the culprit on the non-working brushless esc, but no, connected (not solderd) all the wiring toghether and plugged a battery up, no LED ilumination, frustrated!! any hints on an inexpensive ESC that can handle a novak 5800? i might have to send this one in to novak, but it seems like a hatsle, i cannot see the serial # that they are requesting.......i guess i will have to stick with the 15T no reversing set up i got now.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Hey all again. I noticed this the other night and thought to myself that looks exactly like the hobbywing 9t brushless motor system [link=http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Brushless-motor-ESC-Combo-9-turn-for-Tamiya-HPI-1-10_W0QQitemZ120432378192QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Toys _Hobbies_Radio_Controlled_Vehicles?hash=item1c0a54 4150&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=%7C301%3 A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A30] here[/link]. My question is, is it just the hobbywing BL motor in a different colour?
thanks
