I finally managed to get mine the air a week ago. I was a bit nervous and worried if I had enough power, if the cg was right, were the control throws adequate, and would it overheat. The first flight answered all my concerns. The power 160 on 10S and a 20x10 prop was plenty of power. The cg and control throws were almost perfect, only requiring a click here or there. It was really stable for a warbird and I even managed to nail the landing in 15-20 mph winds with no flaps. I am really looking forward to getting some air time with this one.

Well done JP- I have toyed with going electric- but don't want to have to stock up multiples of 5cells- I already have lots of 6cell lipo's - and they don't fit that we'll. Have you seen the 60cc Mustangs converted to electric 12 cell on youtube- they sound awsome- guess yours sound great too. Glad to hear yours flew well- all the flight reviews have been good once the COG is correct.

Well engine choice sorted. I'm going for the ZZDZ40RA which is a rear exhaust to make hopefully an easier install and with its prop range up to 22inches- will swing a 19 inch 4 blade very well. It cost a bit more as it is special order only- but this Spit looks so cool it's worth it. SpeaKing of cooling- taking Forces and Roosters advice- I'll remount the chin air scoop further back to enable a decent airflow exit hole. Also I plan on running in the new engine on my acrowot xl.

Whilst waiting for parts to arrive- I tried a few dry fits. There seems No Way I can get the dummy exhaust stacks to fit into the holes in the sides of the cowl- looks like I'll simply cut a long rectangle and glue the assembly in looking at previous pics here that seems what has been done before. Also seems the cockpit dials are for a modern aircraft as I don't believe they had digital radios in 1944 lol- so a cockpit revamp will be in order I think.

What are you using for your pilot figure?

Hi Zrooster- I'm using a pilot figure from an online shop here in the U.K.: Prop Guy. Engine won't be here for a couple of weeks- but just spent an arm and a leg on the Spitfire spinner and three Biela props (4 blade for Spitfire, 4 blade for Mustang and 3 blade for Beaver). Did you notice much difference flying with the 4 blade? And what size did you use? I have a dle 35 ra in my Esm Mustang and ordered the Biela 17.3x8 4blade.
I didn't care for the 2mm pushrods in the Spitfire kit- so ordered some 3mm threaded bar.

That's good to know. I'll test all the setups on more manageable planes before putting them on the warbirds. It's been really windy here past few weeks which has given me a chance to tidy a few planes for spring- fingers crossed for good weather soon though.😎

Thanks w1nd6urfa thats great information, exactly what i was looking for! Thanks
Im looking at these retracts from hobbyking. And was wondering if the motor will fit inside the wing. These retract away from the motor. From the pictures it looks like there is plenty of space inside the wing. Could you see if a total length of 106mm will fit?

Thanks Martin

I've heard good things about these retracts - a few club members are using them. I don't usually like using Hobbyking electrical components- but might give them a try in my Hellcat if they do twist n turn versions.
