Well, after draining most of a battery, I have to say that this car is overgeared. I want to bring the gearing down, but what do I need to change. I really don't have a good idea of what kind of change will do what, but I want to bring down the top speed and run my ESC cooler. Because right now, it's nuclear after 4-5 minutes of running (160+ degrees)

I bought a new pinion (32t) today, but I'm at school right now, so I'm not gonna bea able to try them out until tomorrow.
I have been drifting though, which is getting more and more addictive. I've got all my neighbors watching me, and one was crazy enough to ask if it was electric or gas (wha?)

Hi all, i need help with gearing.
I tried the stock spur and 32 pinion -way too slow!
I will be using 2s2p 25C 5300mAh Li-Po´s, mamba max esc, and 5700 motor, and maybe faster one later on. I have the IFS-R version.
I am thinking of the kawada 64p spur/pinions.
What do you think would be good? -i will be driving on track and street, top speed must be good, but with not burnt motor .
105 spur and 43 pinion ? -what speeds should i get with thease, or different gearing?
And what are the correct alloy diff joints?

I ran my MM/5700/maxamps 2s 7.4v with 105T spur and 31 tooth pinion and it was very quik. beat my friends 4 tecs off line and still had enough on top to hang for a decent run. They would beat me on top for sure with that set up in a big enough area, But I am geared WAY consevative.
I am runnin a 108 spur now with 34 pinion because my local shop was out of 105 spur. It seems almost the same as 105 31 combo. i like this combo for now because the size of the lot we bash in is too small for higher gearing. Its a smaller lot but the asphalt is perfect.
With a 105 / 43 you will need a good sized lot that is VERY smooth. Keep an eye on the motor temps too.....One thing I like about conservative gearing is how cool ESC and motor stay.
Personally I would buy an assortment of pinions starting at 30 and working your way up to 40 maybe in 2 tooth intervals. This way you can explore what works best for you.......plus you can gear it to the area or track which you are running.
FYI I also keep a VERY conservative setting on my MM ESC too. Timing is set below half way and it still hauls Azz.......cant wait to try the 7700 motor.....that should be interesting.

Cool temps? I'm having problems keeping mine cool even with low timing and 105/31 gearing. granted I'm not running a Mamba max motor, but a 5.5 shouldn't heat up the ESC that badly. After about 5 minutes it runs about 140-150.

Ater runnin the car for 1 charge (between 30-45 mins depending how im driving) I can hold my hand on the esc and its just warn to the touch. The motor does get warmer but nothin crazy. the battery is by far the coolest of the 3....not even warm to the touch.
When I said cool I meant all my electronics run much cooler than the max allowable temps from the mfg.

I tested today 100t spur and 44 pinion... it is fast! . Temps were okay after few minutes of driving outside on track.
Then it got dark outside ,so i went in to the parking garage for a short run, -very hot esc and motor, 2-3 sec was max. i coud hold my finger on them.
I ordered 35 and 39t pinions today, monday i will test thease.
, oh, and i am using Robinson racing 64p gears.

That is a sik track stalth......I just showed the pic to my co-worker who is from Filland but lives in the states now.....he was curious of where the track is...?

Who is stalth? -and where is filland -the track is in Helsinki, (malmi,tattarisuo) -the larger one is carting track. Next year there will be 1/18 offroad track also.(for sharks and stuff)
Gearing is now 100/35 -still quite hot. next maybe a 29t

Can someone please help me out with the differences between the TA05 IFS and the TA05 IFS-R?
I have looked everywhere!!! Tamiya only shows the main components and does not go into detail about the smaller things parts!

HAHA sorry for my typo's.....My buddy Vesa says he thinks he knows where that track is....but he thought it was an indoor outdoor place.
Anyways to get back on subject it looks like your car is moving raight along.....cool deal. I would like to get a vid of my car posted soon but I havent been using it much latley (too many hobbies too little time) But once i take it out again I will post up a vid....

-thinking of 1:7 nitro dm-one,or RS4 mustang -well see...
-I just opened the rear diff...-the balls have eaten the pulley holes wide! -3 times the size of the balls.
So i need new parts. -the chassis is the ifs-r one ,so i dont know will the standard 05 parts fit.
Any help would be appreciated here.

I just wanted to report, that we've just finished our yearly 24h charity race. The entry cost all goes to charity.
I couldn't race my 05 for the entire time, being a family man and all, but I did get a fair amount of time in.
My TA05R is now fitted with the Kawada Carbon Conversion and I've gotta say, I'm so happy with this car now. It handles great when you get it sorted and it's pretty tough.
The only hassles I had were I had to replace the bulkhead on the front because of a fairly major head-on, the hole for the screw that holds the camber rod became warped, replace the spur gear because I, somehow, got a screw caught between the gear and the bottom of the chassis... that was interesting. Oh, and my batteries kept falling out sideways after a slight shunt... I know I could drive better, but I'm going to have to do something about it. The difference between the Kawada battery holders and a Yokomo battery tray is huge. There really is very little holding the batteries in from the side.... just a slight hitch.
The race was eventually won by an M03 I think.. With a swift body. The guy had completed 3600 odd laps in the 24 hours. The next guy was 3400 with a yokomo tourer so it was fairly close.
As for equipment, most of the people used one motor and one set of tires. Oh, and one guy was running a DF03 buggy... now that was interesting. He decided to start jumping over the corners rather than around them. All in the name of fun.
So now I'm off to strip down the diffs and rebuild them. Clean and regrease everything.. and make sure I haven't broken anything else.
OH, and work out how I'm going to pay for the aluminium bulkheads :| hmmmmmmm

Whats up guys, I am proud to say I am the owner of a new TA-05 IFS with the Willcom Advan body and I am so excited. I am just finishing puting it together its all stock FOR NOW lol but I was wondering if anyone has put a LRP sphere comp TC-spec speed contrloer with the 2.5 turn motor in there car and if so how did it work out. There are not to many places to race here in windsor but I like to have the option of being race ready.

Hi. Can anyone out there help, i have a TA005 with a Losi Xcelorin 7.5 kv brushless Motor what gearing should i use. I'LL be useing 7.4 5000mah Lipo. Cheers Ray.
