It appears that Tamiya plans to re-release the Tyrrell F1: http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=84111

Need help here with the Tamiya F104 Pro diff.
When I built the car, I am sure holding & turning 1 rear wheel c/w made the other rear spin c/c? Now after my first drive, both rears spin forward when I am holding it? I built the diff as per instructions & tightened the nut full & loosened 1/4 turn? When I hold a rear and turn the other rear opposite, it crunches and grinds? I have taken it apart many times now, re-greased, inspected etc. No kid, built many a Tamiya kit, but my first direct drive F1.
I would ask my mate, that has the F104, but he has not even started it yet and &*%$'ing me off big time. Says dun know, errr, arghhh.

lee172, I replied to you as you seem to know about F1's. Any other F1pro owners that could help, I would appreciate it. I do not want to get frustrated with this car!

Thanks
Peter

Since when are ball diffs not supposed to spin the opposite direction?

All of ThunderbirdJunkie's off roaders do it, his F103GT does it, his F103F1 does it, his TA05, and everydamnthingelse with a ball diff too.

Why is this bad?

Just curious.

ThunderbirdJunkie,
Could you please re read my post or am I missing something? I have a question about a problem with my diff in a Tamiya F104pro.

GEE, sorry...Did not realize that all ball differentials did not operate on the exact same principles.

It's a friggin Tamiya ball diff...what's special about it?

Perhaps ThunderbirdJunkie was asking YOU a question about what's different that...ah screw it. Nevermind. Would love to help you, but apparently you don't want it.

ThunderbirdJunkie,
I am asking a question mate? I need help with a diff that may or may not be working correctly in the F104. I thought it would be a simple,

'Turn this, do that check this, ya right to go.'

Your replies are questions and rude. This is a forum for help, not bullies from computing 24/7 & 14000 posts.

If you continue the agression, I will gladly accommodate you mate.

10x8, sorry. Was not intending to come off as aggressive...and in the previous post, was a tad annoyed.
ThunderbirdJunkie posts a lot in the -20C winter we have here not very RC friendly and he gets cabin fever...

Anyway...is there anything markedly different about the F104 diff than other ball diffs you've had? The reason ThunderbirdJunkie queried in the first place is this is EXACTLY what happened with his F103GT diff when he built the car. He had overtightened the diff during assembly before backing off the nut, and flat-spotted the balls.

ThunderbirdJunkie,
No worries & thanks.
Only hop up is the blue ali Tamiya mount.
I just took the round diff balls out with tweezers and they look ok. More confused now? Instructions say not to allow slip when adjusting and that is what I did?
I reckon I have done what you said then. I ran the car, first time with the nut too tight on the diff? I had it 1/4 turn out though? If so, I am friggen spewin, being my first F1, first direct drive, first T bar, no parts in Australia unless they are way over priced.[:@][&:].

I don't like rcmart anymore, due to swiss post & 1.5 months to get to Aus.

Peter

Get some carbide Kyosho diff balls for the RB5, or whatever that 2wd buggy is.

Assuming they're 2mm and 3mm (going from memory for the TA05 and F103GT and F103F1, assuming they're the same for the F104, so take all this with a grain of salt) they'll work great, just get two sets.

If you ask ThunderbirdJunkie, and the Manta Ray ball diff in the Mini Cooper had this problem too, is that the balls are too soft and if you overtighten the diff while assembling, like any sensible man would when building a Kyosho, Associated, Losi, or any other product with a ball diff, it will flat spot the balls without slippage.

Carbide diff balls, clean, flip, and regrease your diff rings, replace the balls with Kyosho bits, you should be good to go

Hey guys,
Finally my Ferrari 412T2 is finished, lots of hours spent on finding and digitalizing the right decals, at the end they refused to print correctly. D-drive won!

Started as a F103 C body set:

Marlboro was mostly fired as a sponcer in my car and yes the helmet decals are grooved (just impossible to have them flat, for me that is lol):

Jean Alesi helmet for the 1995 Montreal GP (his first and only F1 victory)

Lateral view:

The real deal:

Telefonica had to be substituted by Tamiya on the front wing:

Nice tail!

This rear wing started as a "L" body blue wing, it had to be sticky decaled black, then painted and decaled again (a royal pain!)

This is my 4th body job ever and I don't want to do any more!
Just a small tribute to Jean's Victory and the last 12 cylinder F1 Ferrari.

See the Vicory lap on top of Schumis Jordan at YouTube:

Cheers!

Hey ThunderbirdJunkie,
I hope the weather has improved for you buddy & your in a good mood, cause I have more stress.
I searched the net today for Kyosho diff balls for the RB5. No luck here, but did find them o/s. They say 3/32 and that came out to 2.3mm. Tamiya diff ball says 3mm. I searched ebay also. I found these: http://www.tamiya-shop.com.au/shop/t...et-p-4333.html
I can't be paying that and I think they are in Hong Kong with an au address? Anyway, I tracked down some ceramic 3mm diff balls, 12 of them for US$5 from a r/c site in H/K. Had to join another site to get parts.[:@]
Getting pretty piffed, angry & confused now as I thought I followed the build instructions to a T. Not happy with my LHS either as when I asked for the stock disc ball set, #51347, I got um dem er, never had it? They stock the car front and centre for AU$360.[&:]
I appreciate your reply about diff assembly and any sensible man, made me laugh. I friggen need it.
So that's it for the time being. I hope the ceramic ball is stronger than stock. I simply can't afford/access the carbides you mentioned.

Peter

Can someone make a list of the current F1 models available from the different mfgs. Tamyia, HPI, etc?
Your guys cars are so sweet and they look like great projects with not to many parts Im wondering thought
most of these have a single monoshock , does anyone make one with a independent rear suspension besides the 4wd drive Tamiya?

not worth a dime.
ThunderbirdJunkie will give you $8 shipped [&:]

BTW 10x8, Tamiya has carbide diff balls.
hopefully you can get them where you live...ThunderbirdJunkie doesn't remember for the life of him what he used, but you're right. they were 2mm and 3mm balls.

Got some new goodies in the mail yesterday Two sets of slicks with silver wheels and a set of chrome wheels for the F104. Plus I got some fancy new aluminum Tamiya body posts. After installing the body posts, i discovered the rear ones didn't include any spacers to fit properly. So I had to dig thru the poolbox to find something appropriate. Will post some pics tonight.........i know you guys love pics

Do the 104s and old 103s (old as in forever old, pre-F201 days) have interchangable wheels?
ThunderbirdJunkie's Sauber car is in dire need of the wings, body, wheels and tires replaced.

I don't have any uber-old F1 cars but all I hear is that they aren't interchangeable[] Not sure if there's any adapters out there?
