RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
Hi matt,
'dp' refers to the depth (pitch) of the teeth.
standard tamiya pitch (like on an F1 or a TT-01 etc) are a large pitch, which make meshing them pretty idiot proof. They are the most rhobust gears and normally stand up to the worst of meshing. There are not very many gear ratios obtainable when using tamiya pitch gears.
48dp is normally used in off-road buggys and trucks (b44, xxxcr etc) also some on-road cars use them (TC5). They have a 'medium' pitch of teeth, which means they are reasonably easy to mesh (as long as you take your time) There are lots of gear ratio options for using 48dp, due to a lot of the big manufacturers using them in buggys.
64dp (tamiya 04 pitch) is used in on-road racing cars, (12th scale pan cars, high-spec touring cars etc) The teeth are very fine on them, which makes them very hard to mesh and very easy to destroy with the smallest stone etc. The vast amount of teeth on a 64dp spur gear, compared to a tamiya pitch of the same diametre is extraordinary, this means that an infinate (well neraly) amount of gear ratios can be achieved when using these.
for carpet on road racing, 64dp are recommended.
for tarmac racing or off road racing, 48dp are recommended
and
for carpark 'bashing' tamiya pitch are recommended.
hope this helps.
Luke

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
This sounds like a really slack question but can anyone point me in the right direction of a cheap and reasonable ESC?
I figure forward and reverse and down to about 12 turns and it's got to fit on a TA-05 IFS?
If I ever put a brushless in my TA-05 IFS I'll buy a ESC / motor combo so I just want something that I can switch between cars that will do a reasonable job.
Thanks.

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
Hello
Who has tried the EZRun Brushless setup (35A ESC + 9T or 8.5t motor)?
I'm looking for a cheap but still good setup
And what kind of 2S Lipo pack fit the chassis WITHOUT any modification?
Thanks

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
hey,
im looking at getting a TA05 ISF-R soon, it comes witha few ceramic upgrades, titanium screws and a few alloy and cf parts.
i just bought a yokomo mrt4 which is setup for track racing, so im not sure if i should use the ta05 for drifting or for track use?
its not as fast as the yokomo, as it comes with a silvercan motor, and some low end radio gear from a tt-01.
should i use this for indoor carpet racing or drifting?
and whats parts will i need for either form of racing.

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
Why don't the TRF cars have the IFS suspension??? I thought the IFS was a new a better design. Have the racers found that it isn't better, difficult to tune???
I am looking to get a TA05-IFS, but is it a waste of money? will the normal TA-05 be a better performer?

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
Hi, the only marketing around the IFS system merely highlights low nose profile for some of the new body shell designs, as well as lowe centre of gravity. The only slight drawback is around maintenance, and what I encountered, whether from my own error or by design, of the retaining bracket rubbing against the steering arm. It's a very compact design but more difficult to maintain, not that it's especially difficult.
BTW great bodies on the TA 05 IFS-R are the ARTA Garaiya and Ferrari FXX. Both of which have very low noses and wouldn't fit the TA 05.
Ini my view the IFS-R looks amazing, but I would say that - I own one!

Man.. what happened to this thread!
I just picked up a ta05-ifs from shanghai, china for pretty cheap, nib. Pretty happy. I've just finished the mount for the ifs. I hate phillips screws. They strip so easily. I pray that I won't have to maintenance the belts any time soon..
pictures soon to come

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
Haha. Are the aramid belts more durable? Or are they just for the b/a look?
I really hope I don't have to take apart the car too often. These phillips heads are done for in a few more rebuilds..

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
yea its supposed to be better and more durable but i dont notice the difference cuz i never ran it with the stock belts and ive had em for like 2 months... then my charger broke and i had to send it for a repair so i havent gotten a chance to run it much. try to use a bigger phillips head that doesnt wobble on the screw so u dont strip em anymore

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
I have a beautiful TA-05 IFS for sale if anyone is interested. I bought it for my pop's for his birthday but he didn't show much interest in it and so he told me to take it since i would use it more than himself. I'm not really into on road that much so now i'm stuck with the EBBRO 350R version of the chassis. Don't get me wrong, the car is gorgeous but i don't have many places to use it. I tried it outside on the concrete and a tiny pebble got lodged between the pinion and spur gear. Since then i haven't used it. The car literally has less than 5 battery packs run through it. I figure someone else can get better use out of it at their local track or where ever and in the mean time i can use the money towards my off road obsession, lol.

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
V.2 apparently has 5 newly designed parts, the lower chassis is narrower, the upper deck, suspension mounts, motor mounts are changed.
The battery sits a bit farther forward the separated suspension mounts enable easy maintenance of the drive train.
I just got this info from an ebay listing and I think its just a direct copy from Tamiya.com anyway.
I plan on buying one of these soon, I can post pics up here if anyone is interested.

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
That is the version 2 of 3Racing chassis for the TA-05. Their designation V2 has nothing to do with Tamiya's version 2 of the TA-05. Two separate companies each producing their V2 independently. Unless you are prepared to modify the 3Racing chasis to suit the Tamiya TA-05 V2 I don't think there is much you can do.
