This is the cast model. The Instruction manual shows the same part number for the header pipe and muffler for the 1.20 - 1.80. Are you looking for a muffler?

I am considering putting a Saito 220 on a Giant U can do. I did'nt want to read 240 pages of post so I thought I would just ask and see if anyone has experience with this mototr on the big pink u can do. I am at 4500Ft and everything here has to be much larger than stated by the manufacturer to get any real power for precision aerobatics and good authority out of a hover. Can anyone help?

I am putting my saito 82 on my Cap 580. i have heard alot of people are reversing the carb in order to have a better throttle lnkage set up and to have the needle facing up with the motor mounted sideways. I like this idea but have never worked with four strokes before. can anyone help me with this?

E, just remove the two screws that hold the carb to the backplate, swing the carb out to the side, turn it 180 degrees, swing it back into place and replace the screws. Hold the intake pipe in toward the engine when tightening the screws. It's easy peasy.

Thanks Hobbsy, I also am putting the Flex exhaust pipe with the 90 degree so as to not have to cut into the cowl anymore than need be, are there any drawbracks to using the flex pipe and not the muffler. i.e. loss of power? too much noise?

Problems, problems, problems. As the old saying goes, if it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
I have a new Great Planes 1/4 scale RV-4 that I mounted a Saito 100 on. The Turbo Header hit the cheek on the cowl. I tried the stock muffler and the manifold sticks out too far from the block and also hits the cheek.
Is there a shorter manifold available for the 100? I'll try most anything to keep from cutting into that beautiful cowl.

I used the old style muffler on my RV3 from my 65 and put the new muffler on my 80 in a jungmeister. The muffler from my 80 ended up on my 65 In a curtiiss hawk. Everything seems to work. The RV3 was a tight fit but I got it in there. Has anyone followed all this?

Can you email me a pic so I can see the problem? We can try to work something out. The next run on the TurboHeader will fit much closer to the engine. The machinist may be able to work some other magic.

Yes, you can use a 15x8 on the 1.25. I don't know yet about run times on 14oz, but I'm expecting around 10 minutes on mine as it breaks in. Some of this was answered in the RCV vs Saito 100 thread.

Thanks for the help. I know I asked similair questions on other threads. This one was pretty specific to Saito that is why I asked the question here. I would be very happy with a 10 minute flight with the Saito 125 using a 14oz tank and a 15X8 prop. I was thinking more like a 7-8 minute flight time but 10 minutes sounds alot better.

I have a 180 in mine and it is great, however I'm only 115 ASL. The 200, you will have to work on the firewall a little to get
get it to fit. You should have a ball with it..

Missing RPM's recovered
Several months ago I wrote into this forum looking for suggestions to improve the performance of my Saito .72 which had lost 300-400 rpm since I purchased it. I received a number of worthwhile suggestions -- including changing the glow plug, setting the valves, going to new fuel, and checking the intake manifold, all of which I checked to no avail. Because of the number of hours on the engine, >80, several suggested that the bearings should be changed, but inspecting the bearings revealed them to be clean in appearance, smooth in rotation, and tight when exposed to side loads, so I left the bearings untouched. A recent post on this thread indicated removing the muffler on one engine was responsible for improving performance by 500 RPM on the test engine. Since my own muffler is cruded up from the use of 3% castor oil in the mix, it became the immediate suspect. Combined with the fact that peak RPM's were achieved with the high speed needle only about 1 1/4 turns open (vs 2 to 2 1/2 normally) and that the engine (particularly the muffler) was running hot even when adjusted to run 300 to 400 rpm rich, the muffler became the prime suspect. Operation of the engine without the muffler produced immediate and positive results -- peak performance improved by 500-600 rpm and the needle adjustment moved back to the 2 1/2 turns from full open. Furthermore, I weighed the muffler and it appears to have gained weight, roughly 10 to 15%.
Hard numbers -- After about 10 hours operation, and using Powermaster 15% nitro fuel, 80/20 mix of synthetic to castor oil
Prop -- APC 13 x6
Peak RPM --- 10,300 (with muffler)
Flight RPM --- 10.000
After 80 hours of operation, Powermaster 15% fuel
Prop -- APC 13 x6
Peak rpm -- 9800 -9900 (with muffler)
Peak rpm -- 10,500 (muffler removed)
I now have several questions which I will put out for comment
1- Since it would be nice to have the extra power that comes from operation without a muffler (the engine is still relatively quiet), what pump would be best?
2- If I decide to go back to the muffler, what is the best way to clean it?

Just fired up the 80 I borrowed from a friend, and it turned only 8100 with a 13x6. Idles and transitions sweet, and idles nicely at 1800. This carb may be for 50,56,65 though. Idle needle is out more than I thought it should have been. My 72 spins a 13x6 much faster. Is this normal, or is it probably the smaller carb we think we may have used. I guess my question is how fast should an 80 spin a Master Airscrew 13x6 ? Oh, no vacume leaks, or tight valves I can find, and it idles smoother than my Chevy pickup.
