Gas Engine Weights - 50cc WEIGHT Class

RE: Gas Engine Weights - 50cc WEIGHT Class
You may need to use lighter wood in the tail. With the light engine in the nose, you want to keep the tail light to even out the balance. Or it may balance perfectly right out of the box, hard to tell. It's always better to have it come out a little nose heavy and push the batteries back a little.

I have plans for an 27%, 80" Extra that I think will come in at 12lbs with the new Brillelli 46, if not lighter. I can use heavier wood toward the tail and whatnot to keep it balanced.
What was that about vertical snaps Bob?

Also that Brillelli 46 is so light that it might cause balancing problems making some larger planes come out tail heavy. Not that's a nice problem to have......reminds me of the phantom BME 55......

Difficult info to obtain....and I'd rather not get into a bunch of tech specs. Sooner or later someone starts the cantilevered v.s. non-cantilevered crank and the cast v.s. machined head/crankcase issues..... then of course, the "prop bolts", how many SHOULD there be, and "which is best?".....
No, sorry.... not gonna go there.

Thanks for taking the time to put the chart together. Great info. I'll bet many people are using it who you never hear from.

Thank you for the positive comment, Flylow. I am happy to say I've gotten more good ones than not. I was very fortunate this past season to be able to do a lot of playing with motors, so it was pretty easy to collect the data while coming up the learning curve.
So much to learn........... so little time.......... so much less objective data......

Silversurfer - As you are already aware from EARLIER problems in this thread..... why do you try to inflame people who choose to be concerned about the weights of motors? There are a lot of reasons folks choose what they buy, you know that.
This data is simply INFORMATION. If it feeds someones' sexual aberrative behaviors ("fetish", by definition), then who cares?
IT IS JUST INFORMATION.
I do not have a reliable source for MVVS 58 data, so it isn't included.

Well if you are going to invest in a CF spinner, CF wingtubes, Pro ball links, PSP Titianium axel, lipos etc etc whats teh difference if you look at the engine too?
I mean all of those items save 4-8 oz...in the end the total weight savings makes a huge difference.
I mean personally, I think seeing the mythical bme 55 or DA 75 being brought up serveral times a month rediculous... but yet its been happening for ages

Yep I am totally into weights of things. This is the best engine spread sheet on the planet. Before this it was all disputes over what's the lightest engine. This is as close to the facts as one can possibly get. Thanks for doing it Bob !!

And don't forget to include, and mention the brand, and weight of the oil that is adhereing to the cylinder walls, and crankcase of each engine weighed .
Not that the brand is important or anything. .... ....
