Default SIG WONDER TWIN FLY !!!!!!

tonight, I finished the fuselages, I glued the last inside amenagement, and I fuelprooofed the engines bays. I also ironed a little bit (the rudders and elevator), now i will glue the wingtips blocks, and if I am too tired, I'll hinge the tail group.

Default color scheme

I was waching my friend fly my old wonder this weekend - make sure of one thing on color, the top and bottom must be radically different color schemes. Helps keep track of it when snap rolling.

I took the TX from him and showed him how to get it to do an inverted flat spin. Like a frisbee falling straightdown.

- wish I could be there for the first flight

I post this to show how I will install the elements to obtain a good balance, in the right fuselage there will be a throttle servo, the rudder servo mounted on the exterior side, and in the aft fuselage section the receiver, battery and switch with charging jack (mainly external ESV port). I will close the aft end of the fuselage to install the switch, that's a good place I think, not only for balance, but also to keep the switch away from engine exhaust residues.
the original wonder tail acces hatch will allow instalation and maintenance.
the ailerons wires are also exiting the wing directly in the right fuselage

In the left fuselage, there is the throttle servo and the elevator servo in the aft section, after fuselage end will remain open for elevator control pushrod.

the wiring between the two fuselages (2servos wires) is made trough the stabiliser

tonight, I ironed the two fusealges and I hinged the tail. In order to save weight, I didn't prepare my wood with my usual primer, I just sanded it carefully before aplying oracover. This will be the same for the wing

Tonight, I glued the tail group to the fuselages, this part of the plane is nearly completed, now I will concentrate my eforts on the finishing of the wing, I still have to find ailerons

Today saturday, I won't work on the plane, in respectfull memory of 7 astronauts.
All my thinking are with the american and Israel nation in this day.

May them rest in peace

Today, I ironed the wing in base witte color, next it will be some higly visible strips on the plane, hinge ailerons and radio final instaltion.
I left a hole in the left wingtip to be able to fill the wingtip block with lead weight for a reasonable lateral balance, in fact all the heavy stuffs of the radio are in the right fuse

I have a good news, my wiffe leave tomorrow with the kids for one week holidays, this mean i'll be alone and i will work on the plane a maximum of time. The bad point is that she take the digital cam with her and there will be no pics this week.

next pic will show the bird completly finish

Ok folks, I need your suggestions here.
Has I already said I don't have a lot of experience with hand launched bird.
I am curently thinking to make the prehension stuff wich will be located in the center of the wing between the two fuses.
My comon sense tell me to put that at the CG position.
Do you agree?

I am still looking for a thin rigid 15 inch long pushrod to interconect my rudders. Carbon fiber is the ticket, but the thinest one I saw in my LHS looked too big to me

time already for the lateral balance.....
to do that I use the method of the scale. I lift the plane, one wingtip on a block, the other on a scale( need a precise one), I read the scale. I make the same operation with other wingtip on the scale. The diference in readings give the exact weight to add in the lightest wingtip.
I explain my method because maybe a beginer read this thread and didn't know that one.

Why worry about the thinness of the rod? Below a certain diameter, the drag will be about the same anyway. You could take a wood dowel and make a pushrod between the rudders, then slip aluminum aero tube over it. That would be lower drag than even a very thin wire.

I have lost my normal internet access ( along with my job ) so it may be a couple days before I get back on line. See you then.

Sorry for your job John

I am worry about the thickness only for cosmetic reasons, the joining wire will be above the elevator assembly.

My father's precision scale (thanks dad to work in the gold business) talked.
The final weight is 1552gr and not 1400 as previously anounced.
In fact, 50gr lead are necessary in the left wingtip and I made a two layers oracover covering scheme. Tonight, I will program the flight controls throw. I plan a dual rate on the elevator, in fact I am a little bit anxious because of the short tail moment, I want to be able to make a nice flair and touch the ground nose hig if possible in deadstick. So I will program a "normal rate" for take off and flight and a bigger rate for the deadstick approach and landing.

I plan also "flaperon" with automatic correction of the pitch in the elevator. The pitch correction will be programed after test flights

Ok, I dreamed it, I builded it, now I will have to fly it.
Needless to say that if I can't see my color scheme in flight, I should better stop RC airplanes and go fishing.....

Ok, the plane is ready for flight, I should breaking in the engine tomorrow, and maybe test flight it this week end if weather permit.
It was a funny and easy kit bashing and I think the flight perfos are going to be interesting.

I only spend 50 hrs on that project and some of my choices are certainly not the best ones, but i think this will fly great.

just finished the braking in. I had plan 3 thanks of breaking in, but the plane is pulling so hard (dificult to keep it in the hand) that I decided to reduce the breaking in on ground and continue in flight.
If it fly it will have unlimited verticals, it's clear.......
