Shadow I dont mean to ignore but I got a serious problem, or at least I think I do...

I just tested floating in water, balance looks great, doesnt dip back too far or anything, BUT, I looked at the shaft tubing where the engine collet meets and water drips up out of that area and starts to slowly fill the hull engine compartment. What is going on? Obviously a leak but HOW? =/

Shadow use 50/50 plumbing solder, put 5/8 amount in the hole you are gonna place your round end, once its seated, take a torch and rotate heating the collet until the solder starts to come up, then let it cool, problem fixed. Thats how I did my cable.

that is a problem . i always assumed the grease would seal it.

well maybe I didnt use enough grease, maybe I will pack that stuff in better, but I didnt think that was the solution to a leak like this. 15 minutes running and my engine compartment would be full or near full of water.

the only other thing i could think of is that maybe your bend up isnt high enough . if the pipe bent up and is above the water line water wont come in , but this would involve motor mount problems as well.

the bushing on your stinger is it loose in the stinger or tight , i think i may have a wrong part or something

mine is tight, I have a lock down screw to take care of that. My tubing is above the water line, but ive realized that I have hardly any grease in it. I will grease it good tommorow and try again. I just don't understand why it is leaking in the first place.

If you have enough grease packed in you will not have any water leaks. Also as you are running forward the water will not wick its way forward into the hull. I have a vee that I am running without a clutch and am not having any problems with water coming in. You have plenty of lakes to run in up in your area. I am down in Lakeland and maybe sometime some of our group can get together with you and have a fun day running.

Its great to see someone close by! Yes I would definately be up for getting a group together sometime! I am in the four corners area of Lake County. I just need to get this thing running and tuned. There are plenty of lakes yes, hence the name Lake County lol. But yeah I am definately down for a fun day running. I have been trying to locate some people here so this is a good start.

Ok, so I have fixed the leak problems and whatnot, but here is where I will sound very noob.


I bought a Sullivan 16oz tank with a conversion kit. I am not very impressed by it first off because the cap is loose and no way to tighten it. Secondly, its just in my opinion a pain to get the brass tube to stay in the vent pocket inside the tank. Anyway to fix this?

Also, There are two fuel ports on the carb, one on the primer and one on the bottom of the carb. Which is one is for what? I know there is obviosly one for fuel intake, but what is the other one for and where does it go? lol

the one to the primer is your fuel feed , the other is your fuel return

The bottom one is the fuel intake. Primer one is return, goes to anywhere in the tank.

Mike, I'm going to be running a 500ml (16oz) gas bag in my E/V. One line from the bag only. On my Rigger, I'm running 2, 8oz Dubro tanks plumbed in tandem. I won't get into the tandem details but I hard piped them without clunk lines using 5/32" brass tubing. You said you got the conversion kit. I'll assume that is the GAS stopper. As long as the stopper is snug in the tank, the cap and screw will make the stopper expand when you tighten em up. If you want to ues 5/23" brass tubing, you will need to drill the stopper holes to 5/32" to push the tubing thru. Even then it will be a task![X(] If you want to do this I can help, otherwise I'm going to stop with the perticulars. Brian

The IV bag is definately an option. Speaking that I work in EMS and have empty IV bags all the time(500ml being my largest, 50ml my smallest). I may have to try it sometime, but for now I will stick to the Homelite tank I bought today through phone order.


I must say that building your first boat is a ******* sometimes. I have run into problems with my paint, push rods, servos, gas tank and now my drive cable. grrrrr. I just want to get the techinical stuff done so I can focus on my hatch darnit!!!! And then get this puppy in the water!!! =/

Well I had my test run today and I had success but also some problems. I am going to have to build a new radio box. My servos for some reason just dont allow my rudders to turn very sharp and the way the box is designed it limits movement from the push rod. Anyhow, all in all the performance was good, I just need to get everything to where I want it and I will post some video and pics. Hatch and final paint job not finished either.

Just put the pushrod into the hole nearest the rudder and that will give you more throw,you dont need much throw on a rudder to make the boat turn .Dont forget the video .

just epoxy will do for sealing the hull why add extra weight by using cloth ,its not needed these things are bullet proof .Only place i use cloth is on the stringers and the seams inside in strips 2" wide.
