I actually started out with that one until I switched to a JRxs3 so that I didn't have to worry about crystals. The RS300 receiver is large, I just got in a RS310 micro receiver so I can keep the same radio. I put the futaba in my sons car. It is a good receiver tho.

i raced the TA-05 tonight, and came 3rd in the final (against 4 other's)

I now have the TRF shocks on, and am running 300weight oil all-round, with the Tamiya blue springs on the front and yellow on the back. I am also running a RED sway bar on the rear, and nothing on the front.

With 26mm wide mini-pins, this is a good set-up for polished wood floor. (i am running a 19x1 motor)

Well done Luke, how did you come to that setup? I found an improvement when I changed from the 26mm minipins to the 21mm, not as smooth but faster time. Kieran.

i put the new shocks on, then i thought it would be better having them with soft oil, so they dig in easier.

i might get some of the narrower ones, but i have just bought a new set of the wide ones

well, thats definately one way to do it. What kind of ESC did you get? I had the futaba mc230 but its only down to 20 turns. Was fine for me as we only race stock class. Nice small ESC, I now have the novak GTB since I'm running 13.5 brushless.

At tower the set goes for 259.99usd. I got mine a little cheaper. I got the GTB new on ebay for 80usd and purchased the motor from tower for 79.99-20 coupon. From what the guys that bought them pre-soldered told me the wires were too long and they had to cut and re-solder them anyway. Great set-up and even tho the 13.5 is supposed to be comparable to a stock brushed I don't think that is right. The 13.5 brushless is much faster in my ta05. The motor stays cooler and I can gear it down alot more.

I was going to go 64p but the lhs mainly carries 48p. I switched from Standard from Metric as they don't carry anything metric there. Just makes it easier to change gearing. To tell the truth I haven't had the car out since last summer so I can't remember what spur and pinion are in it. I know my final was about 5:1. Whenever I got lower than 6.5:1 with the brushed motor it would start to overheat. The 5:1 on the brushless barely gets warm.

17.5T Brushless = 27T Brushed

Brushed still is a little faster here.

From a practical standpoint I'd agree. But going just by kv rating and race rules/classes, 13.5 is still considered stock. 13.5 is rated at 3,000/volt. 7.2v*3000rpm=21,600. The CO27 pro motor I had was rated at 19,000rpm@5v. The Orion Core Stock I have is rated at [email protected]. Watching the performance on the track the 13.5brushless seems to be much faster than just going by its kv rating. I haven't seen a 17.5 brushless so I can't compare that one but in the real world it may be closer to stock.

All rpms are unloaded.

Even if the b/l had a little less RPM, there is still no hassle getting brushes changed or comm skims or anything (which costs about £5 a month)

Well my club raced 13.5 with 27T last year and what happened is that the 13.5 guys had more torque and wound up gearing the cars for more top end speed. They were able to do this because of the torque. Now most race ways have conpensated for this by making 17.5T brushless stock and 13.5t brushless super stock. Look at the ROAR races. This is why you never saw a brushless company make a 17.5T last year, but everyone has one this year.

I don't know if we'll make that switch or not, I'll have to wait and see since we only race outdoors. Thats why I agreed with you from a practical standpoint. We had the same situation when running the 13.5 vs 27t. Everyone with a 13.5 was always in the a main. My CO27, tho a great stock motor, just couldn't keep up. So I agree that a 13.5 isn't necessarily comparable on the track. I don't track roar changes too much because our club is very lax on the rules. Last year they allowed a kid to run a 19t with the stock class. He couldn't drive very well so it didn't change the leader board. We don't race for prizes or anything like that so no one really cares too much.

Racing last night, 5 heats then the final (damn that must have took it's tole on my charger and motor).

I came 3rd out of 3 [:@] in all races.

I tightened my front diff, it now handles better through the corners.

I am getting a strange grinding noise now, i thought it was my shell, until i shaved loads off it.

How do you know if the belts need replacing (apart from the obvious snapped one)

I also changed my connectors to Corally's. They are much better than Deans

Luke, that noise could be your spur, pinion gears, ours have done that from time to time and once I've replaced the pinion it gets quiet again, it also happens if your pinion gear is too tight to the spur gear. I've just ordered new 64p pinions and spurs hopefully these will be quieter,
kieran.

My stock belts stretched out a whole lot. I tried to tighten then but even on the tightest setting they were still lose. So that is when I got the armid belts. Kawada also makes a kevlar belt for the TA-05. Saw it on ebay once and haven been able to find it since.
