how to make a flowing checkerboard
Hi Termagator,
I read your threads on the flag and waving checkerboard. Thanks a bunch for sharing! This really gives me inspiration to do something more different than the usual strips and such.
I have some questions on the way you do the "tears / rips":
Do you overlay the silver border on top of the checkerboard or the other way around. Also, I noticed a thin black line (shadow line?) around both the checkerboard and the silver border. Is this also Monokote cut out to match the silver border? Can I do it with a Sharpie black marker and spray some clear over it?
I want to try something like this to dress up my plane.
Thanks again for sharing your tips!
Dan.

#1cut the checkboard, then trace its outline onto the silver(I usally cut a little inside the line that is traced on the silver, so that it will overlap onto the checkerboard
so, I noticed a thin black line (shadow line?) around both the checkerboard and the silver border. Is this also Monokote cut out to match the silver border?
#2this is done with a Sharpie permanent marker...although, once the fuel hits it and cleaning fluid, its not so "permanent " anymore
n I do it with a Sharpie black marker and spray some clear over it?
#3I was gonna try something like that on this one , but i got in too big of a hurry to fly it, so I didnt try to protect the Sharpie lines. I think somebody told me that clear fingernail polish would work........but I have never tried it.
Good luck with your cover scheme and show us some pics when you get finished.....G

Thanks for the reply, Gator.
I'm planning to add some rips/tears on my Edge 540T. I should be getting a digital camera soon so hopefully I'll figure out how to post some pics.
Thanks again.

how to make a flowing checkerboard
i'm starting to turn from a almost scale look on my planned Capiche to a tear style, was thinking what can i put under the Capiche skin, well, like real life, CF of course!
i have some scraps thanks to Westons Magnum.
I'm just not sure it'll suit the plane, ummm decisions

Thanks gator
Well gator, Hours and hours later, here is my attempt! Not sure my wire understands, that hours and hours part.
This is the bottom of my World Models Fun World 3D wings, I put the windex bottle there for size reference, wish I would have used bigger squares, and the whole wing was too much, should have done conor to corner, or tears, but I still like it for my first try.

From the ACM advert.....
how about something like this Gator? tho, for "my" Capiche it would have to be CF look film not checker, but how would you tackle it?
the CF film i think would be easy enough with your tear method, but the engine/struts/anything else would have to be a sticker with a tear effect around it right?

you could print a pic of the engine with your printer, stick it on the plane and seal it with clear covering....I have done this with some pilot photos....G

Termagator you might want to look under giant scale aircraft forum. There's a graphics design contest you might be interested.

Very Nice Gator!
I wish I could come up with something like that. I have a Su-do-khoi on the way and I would like to do something crazy with the covering. I was going to do Briggs Wood's scheme, but I might hafta change it!

Never talked with memphis unfortunatly......
Gator, I need the advises of a master.
here is the wing of my last one, a laser 3D kit version wingtipless
it will be powered by an YS63 and the covering is a copy of the madness scheme (except for the yellow strip).
I want to put the yellow decal of the laser 3D
how to corectly apply a decal (without any bubble) on clear oracover?

SALMONBUG,
What kind of decal is it?
If it's vinyl, then take 2 cups of water and put 1 drop of dishwashing detergent in it. Wet both the wing and the back of the graphic and put it in place, you can move it around and then you have it where you want it, squegee the air out and let it sit.

well it was not a decal, it was a sticker in fact
I aplied soapy water and puted it in place, removed the water with credit card.
looked well, but when it dried, the glue of the sticker turned grey !!!
I removed and ordered a new one factory direct (factory is in my country). Should receive it this week and I'll try to put it dry !

A quick knock up of what im thinking with a pic of a Capiche.
i learnt two things, i need to draw better, and what ever is underneath has to be simplier.
pitty you cant tear covering like paper, would look good, but i'm gonna tear some paper up to see what it looks like, then copy it, or better yet, cut around the tears.
