Gary, you can get the BLUE HAWK decal set from Great Planes as a part replacement. Tell them you need part number 2282 2283 http://www.carlgoldbergproducts.com/.../gbga0053.html

The Ultimate maidened today. It fly's awesome. With the Hacker motor and batteries, it'a a 1/2 lb heavier than my previous Ultimate with a OS 120 Surpass. The Hacker 50-16L on 8s pulls like a YS 140. UNLIMITED VERTICAL!!! Very pleased.

Great to hear that. Congratulations!!. Now many people can take note on how to convert to electric if they wish to, but what ever the choice could be, the fascinating fact is that another CG Ultimate has had its first flight and joined with many others that still fly today.

Thanks Peter, I may try to get hold of some decals. There is a company in the UK selling 'Bluehawk' decals but they seem quite expensive (£50) and I don't know what you get exactly.
Can I ask what you get with the original decals? Is it just the lettering and logos or are the yellow stripes included?

Skyracer - looks great. What did you do with the bottom of the wings? I'm always curious...

Ok I mounted the engine on the mounts and installed them on the lines on the firewall. When I slide the cowl on and have the back of the cowl flush to the fuse and slie the spinner on it is not centerd on the cowl, I have to tilt the cowl down to get it to center out. I removed all the washers behind the mount and still have the issue. This is a Goldberg Kit.

Just red, white and, blue stripes down the bottom of both wings. I wanted to keep the top and bottom different for orentation. I post a picture later when I get home. Thank you for your encouraging reply.

Gary, lookin good! I note you have the ABS cowl. You might want to go with the fiberglass cowl right off the bat. While I still have the ABS cowl on mine (built in 92), it is pretty ratty. It doesn't hold up to lots of vibration or nose overs. Mine has many repairs inside and it looks ok, but I do regret not going with the FG cowl years ago. Keep up the good work, you and all the guys building theirs now!! Jon

i modified that attachment point for the cabanes by doubling up on the ply wood from side to side and then adding buttresses for load support. You can see the mod on this page about half way down.... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_99...20/key_/tm.htm

Yep, I modified the interplane strut ribs same as Peter with thin ply either side of the lugs and also left the die-cut lightening hole pieces in, adding glue to the cut lines. I did make some new ribs from aircraft ply but decided that they weighed too much.
It's difficult to know where the stress loads are going, on my Wots-Wot (biplane in earlier post) the interplane struts just plug in and are just for show.
The interplane struts as they are look a little weak and the grain of the parts in my kit has some shakes in it, might make some new ones from aircraft ply (aware that the weight is creeping up).
I've been looking at the YouTube vid where the top wing comes off, from what I can see the aluminium cabane struts failed at the lower hole for the brace and then I guess the interplane struts went afterwards. I'm just wondering if the builder drilled the holes out for bigger bolts and weakened it.
It could be fitted with working flying wires, would be more scale but a lot of work and too late for my stage of building.
I have a 1/4 scale DH Tiger Moth with working flying wires, three of four let go on recovery from a spin last year, I landed it carefully with much more dihedral than it's supposed to have!!

...and fibre glass parts will be ordered!!
There is a range of parts for the CGU including gear legs, cowling, wheel spats and even a carbon canopy here.
Need to save up first though!!
I have messed around with the ABS cowl but will probably use it as a pattern for cutting holes.

Cheers, I have re-inforced the cabane strut mounts with ply and used self-made aluminium washers to spread the load.
I made the forward brace full width across the fuselage and then realised that I couldn't get the fuel tank in!! Doh! Just chopped the middle bit out.

Very nice Tiger Moth, you have, there, I have been looking for plans to build one just like that, it is so great. I currently own a small one powered with a small 40 size Saito engine, one of my favorite planes, by now I am kind of busy cutting ribs for a 77" Zirolli stearman, a project that will take a long time.

Cheers, it is one of my favourite models, built in 1997.
It's from the Flair Kit which is still available, a fairly quick and enjoyable build and a very realistic and easy to fly model.
Mine is a bit underpowered with a very old OS FS120, most people fit Laser 150s.

Mine is as well a little bit underpowered, but very nice flyable aptitudes, the factory disappeared a long ago and before that I was able to buy a second kit that I keep it unopened. I really love bipes I could say that half of the total of my planes are bipes, including of course my Ultimate which I plan to fly this next weekend.
Cheers.
Oh! BTW I tried to find Flair models on the web, I only found this one: http://www.airflair.com/ but it seems that they do not carry the Tiger Moth.

Try this link [link=http://www.radicalrc.com/category/FlairWWI-150]Radical RC/Flair Kits[/link]
They list the Tiger Moth in 1/4 scale.
Have a Blessed Day!

Thanks again George, it has been a great day!!.

I love bipes too!
The company website for Flair is here.
A fairly low key operation now and some of the models listed there are no longer available but I know that the Tiger Moth is. I can link to UK shops if you decided to get one and there are none in the States.
I'm building their 'Baronette' which is a semi-scale Fokker DR.1
Tiny bit stuck with the Ultimate, still wondering whether to modify the top wing mount or go with the original design, also waiting for a club member to lend me a Robart hinge point jig as I am using that type of hinge.
