Evan,

Sorry to make you drool....lol...I'm still drooling over it too..

This is one sweet little heli, I like everything about it so far...

Didn't get a whole lot done tonight, just mounted the tail servo, and the gyro...got the rudder control rod and guides set up.

I like the way the gyro sets, very cool....and you gottal love the tail servo mount too...nice job Align did on this heli, very well thought out!

Glenn,
Great pictures! I am gladefor ya man that the build is coming along and your happ with it!

Nick,
Man oh man, you really have a case of the MUNG. You be careful. Yea, Ilike windows Xp farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr better than the Vista any day of the week.

Me,
I got the 500 swash to move and it is not damaged after all. I stuck a driver in the f-shaft and spun it and it is not bent whoo-rah! It alos appears that the main shaft is good two. But...........I did strip the pitch servo. I called the LHS and they have no gear sets! Glenn, honestly I have looked and read so much tonight I cant remeber if there were metal replacements. I know the LHS said the white plastic gears are $5.00 and a new servo is $50.00 and both are a week out! He did have Hitec MG 5245's on the shelf but they are also $50.00 and I wouldhave to buy 3 OUCH!........ $150.00. Seems kind silly to throw away three servos (aligns) for the cost $5.00 worth of gears. I dont fly that hard that they should not last me a lifetime. However if I loseone ina crash then I will make the upgrade.

To all.......my second Hughes fuse came in last night. I opened it today and it was PERRRRRRRRRfect until I looked at the booms underside. It looks like the was specks in the paint and they color sanded it and "forgot" to repaint it. That cinches it for me, I give up. Iget the hint from the man upstairs NOYELLOWFUSEFORME. So now I'll call and get another return number and hit the PO tomorrow.

Glenn,

Hope you don't have to replace a set of those MGgears. Ispent like $20 for a set when one of my gears bent. That could add up quick.

Iwas thinking, since your main shaft has a notch on it can you take the swashplate out from the bottom? If you bent the top part of the main shaft it might be hard to take the swash andwashout arms off from the top.

Good to hear you got to fly at your field. Ican't wait for my summer break, because I will be up at my field flying every good day.

It looks like I might be flying in front of some more camp kids in June and July. I got an email sayingaguywants some of the club members to fly for the kids, but the president of the club has to check out the area to make sure it is safe to fly there first.

Helistyle,

Cool to hear your 450 is flight ready.

JPEE,

Sorry to hear you have another fuse with flaws on it.

Heli,

LOL

I remember those days, just sitting in class, waiting for that stupid bell to ring...LOL

Hope you can manage your excitement!

Good luck, and let us know how it's going!

Nick,

Yeah, I have seen where the metal gear sets are pretty expensive. On top of that, the servos would be a PITA to get out, back in, recentered, etc...

Good point on the mainshaft, didn't give it much thought...I guess if it were bent badly, it would make the most sense to get the dremel with a cutoff wheel, and just cut it off, or in two..[X(]

I am really split today between flying and building. I think I'm going to sneak a couple of packs in at lunch, and mostly build tonight. I don't want to get too far behind on the build, and feel rushed to get it done by the weekend. I may still be able to sneak a couple of packs in at the horse track tonight, since it's real close, but the field faces west, so that won't be any good until almost sundown...

I also found out last night that my club field's main flightline is bad for sun in the evenings, this early in the year. The sun is off to the left of the field, and flying to the left presents a major problem. So last night, I waited until the sun set, and then flew on it. They have those sunshields, but it would be kinda hard to get used to them at first. But the little heli field is fine, because you can turn your back to the sun...so it works pretty well.

Apparently, later on in the year, the sunset moves further over to the left, so it's not as much of an issue...I remember that from visiting it last fall.

Hey,

The 3 in V3 didn't come out, so I dropped it.

I am still not sure of the official name, it seems more people use "Pro" than "V3"....but the owner of Hobby Hangar called it a "V3" when I was buying it...

Anyways...

Glenn,

The wind isn't too bad right now, so I am going to try and fly as much as possible. Then the rain comes tomorrow.

You could get rid of those spaces and shorten up CPPro2 to CPP2.

Yours is the Pro and mine is a V3. The V3 is a V2 with the new TT, new wider rotor housing, and there was one more thing, but Ican't think of it.

Hope you can take advantage of the weather while it lasts...

Thanks for the clarification on the V3...wasn't sure, but have seen it called the Pro alot more than V3...

Glenn,

LOL. Icouldn't pass the opportunity up.

I just got one flight in and now I remember why I love flying so much.I was having a blast and there was no wind when I was flying. I was starting to get used to my FSOne controller, so it was different switching back to my DX7. But after that I was pushing my 450 pretty hard trying some big and fast moves. Ijust have to relearn some of my moves to make them look better, since Iam a little rusty. This is the perfect medicine for me.Now all my electronics are over a 100 degrees. My battery was 130.

Nick,

LOL....

I'm getting ready to hit the baseball field here in a minute myself...

Glad you had a good time, it's amazing how much you don't realize you miss flying until you fly again sometimes..

When I was watching the vid on tail setup last night, a situation came up that I have been wondering about for a while now, esp on the Gaui...there is alot of debate about whether or not it is OK to use subtrim on a rudder servo or not...

Finless says it's OK. But, other guys on HF said they had problems with their 450 Pro tails if they used any subtrim at all...I got lucky, and my servo arm (it's got 4 arms, the one Finless uses in his vid is just a one armed arm) came out to almost perfect 90....so I'm going to stay away from the tail rudder servo subtrim. But, on the Gaui, it's a different story, I find the tail drifts, and I end up using regular trim to get it to stay put...I did use subrim to get the arm at 90 on that servo...

Maybe it depends on the servo/gyro setup. Finless says (at least on this vid of the Pro) that the radio will recognize the new subtrim setting as a baseline when it's turned off and back on....he also said it's important to rebind after making settings, which I always do anyways, esp with anything to do with gyro settings....learned that lesson on the 500 a while back...

Dunno, interesting debate. I'm just going to go with a hair off on the 90, and no subtrim...

Have fun!

Glenn,

Ihave heard that debate too. I use the circle servo horns for the tail servo, so I have 4 spots to choose from too. Then there is at least one spot that is very close to 90, so Idon't use subtrim either.

Nick,

Just for the record, the book I got by Ray Hostetler, "Shop and Field Companion"....he says no subtrim on a HH gyro, as the gyro "sees" that as a pilot input...and this guy has been doing RC Helis since 1974![X(]

Not saying Finless is wrong, just differing opinions...I guess it will go on and on...

It was kinda windy today flying...I kinda split my flying between a baseball field, and the horse track. The horse track has a real long, narrow field, kinda cool to go all the way to the end and fly back...good nose in flight practice.

I also did my first backwards circle today! It was kinda small too...seems it would be easier to start out bigger. Once again, I find myself flying too low to the ground, gotta work on that some too..

Hope you had a good time flying.

And hope you are feeling better.

Glenn,

Good to hear you got to fly and cool that you did a backwards circle.

Yeah Ihave been having fun flying. I would be up at my field right now if I didn't have to go into work later today.

Today I feel pretty good. It usually gets worse later on in the day.

Nick,

Glad you are feeling better, and sorry you have to work.

I'm going to spend the majority of the evening working on the 450 Pro, I want to be ready for the weekend with it.

My DX6i has a strange, very strange issue....all by itself, it will change the timer from counting down, to counting up. It happens all the time now on the B400....I flew today too long because of it counting up, instead of down. I can put it back to down, and the next time the radio is powered up, it will switch by itself to up...very annoying...it's like the only setting that does that (thank goodness it's not like swash mix or something[X(])

Maybe I'll call Horizon, see if they have seen it. About the only thing I can think of trying is to reset it by removing the batteries for a bit...?

I don't know, but it's strange...

Glenn,
That happened to me about 2.5 weeks ago.Erik and I were flying and my alarm would not go off. I/he over my shoulderkept looking and the counter was going up! rather than down. Like you I changed the setting down to zero. The the next time it counted up. There is something that when you hold up the timer/trainer switch and click it I think twiceit changes the counter, give that try. It seems it just went away on its own. I got soworried about it I took a second timer as a back up. Now...............I set off the timer and watch it count down 3 sec before I spool up just to make sure.
KUDOS on flying backwards Glenn

Nick, great news on your health and computer too!! WOOHOO

I flewmy 400-2 yesterday morning for 60 seconds and she fell again which I think I wrote about. Lookyj loaned me an rx today to put in to 400-1 so I could park 400-2. She flew like a dream but as I stated above,I was not taking any chances on flips or rolls. TOMARROW I will shake things up. Iam installing a new ESC in 400-2 tosee if that is why the motor just drops out and she comes down becuase I still have rudder and pitch control as she falls.
