Great builds man! I can't wait to see what you do with the F1's. I love them, they're simple to work on, chassis and hop-ups bolt right on no issues and the bodies are like a blank canvas. I'm trying to decide on my next two body projects. So far I've narrowed it down to 4 livery's, but I only have two bodies...choices, choices, choices.

The nitro F1 is cool, but the ultimate F1 find to me would be a Kyosho 1/8 electric F1 either the FW14 or the Yamaha Jordan. They're like the white buffalo on Ebay...impossible to find and really super expensive.

It shouldn't be too hard to convert one to electric and sell off the nitro stuff...

Thanks man! I'll be posting pics of the mods to both cars shortly, but I'm still deciding on colour schemes for the 'Box, and I have another buggy body & wing in white that I want to do... an F1 style is very tempting, sort of like in a "support van" kind of way!!

I'm a huge fan of the older style liveries on racing cars. I worked on F5000 a while back and helped build this car, an ex-Mario Andretti Lola T332;

Here's the original;

It's hard to see but the detailing is beautiful, with a gold pinstripe separating the red and white. I have some better pics of the car when it came back from paint, I'll try to dig one out and post it up... very tempted to do this on a modern F1 body. What do you think?

As for converting a nitro car to electric, it can be done (I'm sure has been, and vice-versa), however I think with the Kyosho F1 you would need to go brushless!!

There's some good ideas in there. I'm actually thinking of trying something like Narwhal's Lotus. If I could find the right color vinyl for the wings I'd be done already.

Thanks for the offer man but I already have one of those. I was actually talking about using that livery on a modern F1 body. I know it's been done but I'd like something simple to sticker, unique on the track, and bright to see.

I'm thinking of doing a Sauber hybrid - old C12 body with LiquiMoly stickers on wing but 2012 paintscheme with NEC sponsors on the sides.

Thoughts?

Hi everyone,

I received my new shipment late last week...

Parts galore, almost enough hop-ups and spares to build another complete chassis! Couldn't resist adding a couple more to my 1/20th GP Collection either...

Well onto the Lotus Honda 99T build. This is the later F103 chassis...

All fairly straightforward and standard for now, although I did buy a few 3Racing alloy friction poles (they fit both F103 and F104's) and I'll upgrade the damper at some stage too...

I built up the front suspension with the Racing Developed King Pin Kit, which relocates the spring to inside the arms, instead of under-slung as standard (even the Racing Developed Upright Kit (with the little grub screws) does it that way)...

I used a micro servo for the steering as it's all I had laying around, and having worked up a neat little solution on how to mount it, I'm keen to use this method for all my F1 chassis. First I cut the lower mounting tabs off and located the servo in the centre of the chassis...

Then I used a couple of standard plastic servo mounts and, after roughing up the surfaces, epoxied them to the servo...

I then drilled a couple of holes in the standard servo mount and screwed the servo to it before mounting the whole assembly to the chassis...

Final setup works a treat with a securely mounted servo, plus the added bonus that it is smaller and lighter.

Mounting the tyres was probably the hardest thing to do, just takes care and a little patience...

Coming along nicely...

Installing the electrics, I mounted the ESC and receiver on velcro so I can interchange them with other models...

So there we have it, my first F1 build...

I haven't started on the body yet, but I have just ordered the Senna version with the proper Camel logos and #12 sticker sheet. The spares I purchased will make up the chassis for this body (Senna always got the hop-ups!!)...

I used the same RD Kingpin kit but fitted the stiffer Gp. C springs. I also have the F104 alloy diff. housing and graphite shaft for use with the F103 chassis, so I bought a set of F104 rims and rubber tyres...

Both upper and lower decks are full carbon, and I used a YeahRacing alloy motor plate for the gearcase...

Well that's about as far as I can go for now, I'll have more when more parts arrive!!

Lol, thanks! Eventually I'll be able to take any one of them off the shelf, plug in a battery, match the transmitter crystal and go for a run...

Check ebay... generally had the lowest prices on RC kits. Find a good seller + cheap shipping + new in box.

hopefully trading my F103 for a group c <br type="_moz"/>

If so where can i get 4 complete tires?
Reason being my friend has a street car and i wouldnt mind having a race and having he best of both worlds...buggy and F1

You could try to fit some foamies on there... we'd need to know the wheel hex and wheel diameter to know for sure though.

Hey Kramer, it looks like the build is going well. I like your little trick for mounting the servo. Very good idea that I will use if needed in the future. Great pics of your build.

@ bigcam – The Ferrari F60 kit is a good entry kit to F1. It’s based on the F104 chassis and can be upgraded to an F104 X1 chassis. The X1 hop-ups will really improve the cars overall handling. Unfortunatly there aren’t any conversions to take a basic F104 to the F104 Ver2 level.

@ Tterbo – I don’t think the F1 rears will mount to your frog. The F1’s use a different rear hub and I think the front axels are also different, but I’m not entirely sure.

Hey guys!

I had a few F1's a while back. I never raced them, just had them for shelf queens really.

I want to get another one now. I will probably just buy a used one and upgrade it. What is a decent price for a used F103 or F104?

When I had my F1's, I remember seeing a carbon print body. I think it was from TRG, but I can't seem to find it now. Is it discontinued? Where can I find one?

I also remember seeing rear diffusers. I can't seem to find many of those either.

Thanks for the help!
