RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hello Saito lovers, Need some info ...hope you can help !
I am working with a early Saito '70 FA 30 MK2 which has open
rockers. Is there anything special I need to know about this engine ?
Like maintence or lubrication of the open rocker system ?
I have many other later Satio engines , just nothing this old.
Plan on flying a Quaker Flash with this motor.
( Also motor is NIB have not yet bench ran.)
So any knowledge out there of old Saitos would be great !
Thanks,
Jim (Zagi_X)

Hi Berry.......................when I ran into that same problem I used the Saito flexible pipe with a pressure tap. A bit pricy but it was the only way to do it on the Waco YMF 1:6. Hope this helps.

Thanks w8ye for the info, also would you know some of the Saito history ?
Or where I might read about it ? Was this FA .30 MK2 the first small displacement they made ?
Thanks again !

I think the 30 MKI was the first one.
Some of these early ones had a bolt on head separate from the cylinder. Is your that way?
There's been a lot written about them on RCUniverse over the years but how to find one of those articles is another story.

I see that picture is from a certain auction site?
I think the first ones with enclosed rockers were also separate heads also.
I think the came out with the 120 and then a 40 next.
The original 40 evolved into the 45, 50, 56, & 62 engines.
The 120 was completely redesigned into the 120S and that went on to evolve into the 150 and 180/220 engines
The 30 is now discontinued by Saito. Edit: I meant to say Horizon

You are correct about the said auction site.
I'm the new owner of this beauty .
This little gem deserves to be run and heard !
and I'm looking forward to this
powering something rather vintaged. I'm leaning towards
a Quaker Flash.
Thanks for all you info... w8ye

Of those type planes, I finally decided that I liked the Dallaire the best from a standpoint of handling moderate wind and still having decent performance.
The planes with polyhedral are just terrible around any wind or turbulence.
A friend has a Ben Buckle Record Breaker with a Saito 45. It's terrible in the wind but otherwise is beautiful. He's the one with a Dallaire from Bob Holman and a ASP XL65FS
The Flash should be good also. Here's what Ben Buckle had to say . . . (this one has a new style Saito 40 but would be great with the old 30)

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I have a fa-72. When i had it on the test stand runing i seen that the little chrome intake tube would get really cold an would have water droplets runing down it. which seems fine. Now the water that makes it down to the top of the carb sems to be getting blown back up the outside of the intake pipe.Is this the prop blast from it puddling or is it maybe a leaky o-ring letting the up draft going through the carb push it up? The engine runs like a champ. no complaints so far...

Is there a Saito website or hobby shop site (other than Horizon) where I can view the
listings of engines not sold in the US ? That would be intresting.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
HEELLLPPP !!!
I have a nearly new Saito FA-150H, but it is vibrating like hell. I have tried different props, APC 16x6, APC 16x8 and Graupner Sonic 15x8. All props are balanced perfekt. The only prop which runs without that much shaking is the Graupner prop. But still the engine is shaking a lot.
I have tried the engine on a test stand and installed on a plane, but no differense.
I am using 20/20 fuel blend.
Could there be any fault on the engine, and if so, how can I check it ?
One question more, what would be a good prop for F3A acrobatics on this engine ?

Masonman........................I have two of the 72 engines, I noticed they'll do that on very hot and humid days. I think it's perfectly normal, I did notice though that on very hot and humid days there's loss of power on the high end when pushed. From just over half to full power. Other days seems fine and no sweat on the manifold.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
W8YE.............................Here's the way I managed to set up the throttle push rod on the U-CAN-DO 60-90
Question: I have four other Saito engines that when the throttle arm is in the forward position the throttle shows it's open and when pulled back it closes. I am now setting up my new Saito 100 (for the U-CAN-DO) which I purchased at the Toledo show this year. I have noticed that the throttle does the opposite, when the throttle arm is pulled back the throttle opens, when it is pushed froward the throttle closes. It really doesn't matter though, I think. Why is the Saito 100 set up different ?.
Charles.

all my saitos do the same thing on hummed days. its normel and a loss of powers to be expected.. here in IA. when the humidity is at 98% you can see the droplets getting sucked up by the carb. i just pack up and go home on those days.

c-runch................Yes...........I do see why it's the opposite. Normally I have to turn the carb around, but this time I left it on the outside instead of towards the centre. Different situation. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. This Club Saito thread is great, lot of experienced guys like you are always ready to help out.
Thanks again.
