RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Thanks, Jim. I am going to run this engine first, but I might very well be needing one of your fine mufflers for it. The 1.80's at my field sound great, but I can only imagine what it sounds like with your muffler.
Hey, you have sound files, don't you? I'll send you an email, and you can send me what you have, if you don't mind.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
This weekend I had my maiden flight of a Sig Astro Hog powered by a Saito 100. By the time the weekend was over, I had used 2 gallons of fuel in it and had a great time. What an awesome combination. I have followed many of the discussions on this thread regarding fuel. I am curious if anyone can tell me their experience with Cool Power 4-stroke 15% fuel as I plan to use it in my 100. Thanks.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I haven't used the Cool Power 4S fuel, but I have used some regular Cool Power. If you are going to use CP, I would advise you add a few ounces of Castor. There is an on-going, err, discussion about whether you actually need Castor or not, but I won't run without it.
And, regardless of WHAT you read to the contrary on the fuel bottle, use some type of after run oil, for pity's sake. Your engine will thank you!

Hobbsy,
I set my Saito .72 up like you suggested in Post #9335 and was able to get the idle back to where it belonged in short order. THANK YOU! Now a more difficult question. With about 80 flight hours my .72 is well aged. Over that period of time the high speed need has gotten to where it optimizes at 3/4 turn from dead shut rather than the 2 turns when it was new. Peak rpm with the muffler installed is still pretty close to the same as new, but the needle is now very sensitive. I know the muffler is somewhat blocked from continued use of a few percent of castor but even with the muffler removed, the needle setting is pretty much the same. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Bob

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Looking for advice on twin Saitos.
Gentlemen, Can someone tell me if I will be OK with no pressure line to the muffler? I have a Saito in just about every plane I have and always run the vent to the muffler and have never had a problem. (well except for replacing several muflers). On this project I have a Saito 100 front and back on a Cessna 337 (bashed as an O2A) and I am trying to keep it as scale as possible. With the cowls being as they are I am using flex pipe in lieu of the standard muffler. Will it work without a pressure line? Thanks for any advice or maybe a prior page you can steer me to.

I have no idea to the answer to your question, but that project sounds very cool. Any pictures?

Tbone4life,
Well, still alot to do... but here are a few construction pics! It should have plenty of power with the two Saito 100's. I am anxious to see how the "pusher" in the rear stays cool with the air scoop and ducting I put in. I'm trying to make the KMP 337 into an O2A (the night version that flew FAC missions in Laos during Vietnam). I watched these guys and thought they had the biggest balls in the Air Force...(can I say that?)

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
as an option, you can drill, tap and put a pressure nipple on the headers in the photo.
If the tanks will be slightly higher than the spray bars and the plane will fly scale without abrubt maneuvers than you should be ok.

Thanks for the reply. FYI - the Cool Power 4-Stroke 15% comes with both castor oil and synthetic oil already blended in it. I wasn't trying to re-kindle all the issues about the differences amongst fuels as I have been following this in the thread. I use Cool Power 15% in my 2 strokes and have been pleased with its performance but had no experience with the 4 stroke fuel. The 2 gallons I burned this weekend was 30% heli and it cost me almost $60 for the 2 gallons. The equivalent Cool Power 4 stroke 15% cost about $36. I recognize that the 30% heli will give you a little more power but I just sport fly so I don't really need this. Thanks about your recommendation on the after run oil, like you, I always use it.

TR,
Thanks...I'll try tapping a nipple into the headers. If my flying club thinks it's too loud with no mufflers, I may have to hang some mufflers on anyway but I hate to ruin the looks. I get mixed answers when asking if the four-strokes are too loud without muffflers.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hi guys, Has anyone ever used a "Du-Bro aluminum spinner Prop Nut" on a Saito82? I hvae used these on 2 strokes, but never on a Saito. I have it mounted now with the 2 nuts that came with the motor,Looks kinda goofy! I want to reduce the Gap between the spinner and the prop. Whats the best way to mount this? I have heard Horror stories about Saito's "Kicking" the prop off, can I eliminate one of the Nuts?,or am I just looking for trouble?. Thanks,Mike

We3,
The second nut on a four stroke is used as a lock nut to help keep the prop on when a predetonation occurs.
In your situation I believe that the Spinner prop nut would act as the lock nut as long as the spinner nut was able to be tightened against the first prop nut.

Use this nut behind your "Spinner nut" and eliminate the original Saito nuts

Very cool, jerryballs. I was hopeing to find an arf of the same plane in a smaller scale for a couple of Saito 45's. If I find one, I may have to borrow your idea.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Most people when using dubro spinner nuts just take out all the original nuts and washer and put the spin. nut on the shaft (which looks cool). Ive got several of these dubros but I usually use them with the original washer+first main nut. (taking out the lock nut.) W8ye's suggestion on the thin nut is excellent. You can even find those in a hardware store.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
We3Rc,
I have used a similar nut on my Hangar 9 P-47 with a Saito 180. I put a piece of dry wall sanding mesh between the spinner and the prop (you don't see it)...lots of flights and never a problem. I also have used a Dubro spinner on my Saito 72...no problem. I think the gentleman that suggested keeping them a tad rich is right on. Jerry
Well this is the wrong shot of the plane (it has the static prop). I'll dig the other one up if you would like.

Thats kinda what I was thinking..Just hard to drop 275.00 on a 100.00 plane..HAHA

The engine will outlast the plane-------and possibly several others. Just think, on the next plane, you can pretend this same engine is free.
