RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Yeah Ive read up about the Saito's quite a bit, I know the specs. I was just wondering from real world latest up to date experiences what people using them think. Would plane have bad tendencies ect...
Also on the subject of servo speed for the throtte on one of these bad boys. I am thinking I should find a good, slow servo for the throttle as my radio (dx7) doesnt have the speed adjust feature. Is this a big issue????
Thanx again, JDXX

JDXX- I wasn't being critical at all when I made my comments. I'm doing close to the same thing with a .40 Hots and a Saito .72. My plan is to put a new .82 on that later down the road.
How fast you advance the throttle on your Saito is something you should never worry about.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I would always pick the 82 over the 72 - I think the 82 is a better quality engine I currently have 12 saitos
Quitting on accel could be a bunch of things. low end , glow plug , valves out of adjustment, tank placement, etc.....

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
So I think I am about to become a Saito club member.
I am going to order a 82 soon as my catalog from Chief aircraft gets here (sombody mentiond there is a cupon code in it)
I just hope my plane will be able to remained stopped while idleing.
I am still researching but the Saito looks like the way to go.
I know this is a dedicated Saito thread but in case I cicken out anybody got any ideas on powerfull lightwight 2c engines to do the job??
Thanks for all the input, JDXX

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Get the Saito 82. You'll be well pleased. The only deadstick on mine occurred as a result of the clunk line crystallizing, which caused the clunk to break loose interrupting fuel flow. I have two others in planes nearing completion that will be run in soon.
I've never noticed a transition problem with throttle speed, only with improper tuning.
By the way, folks on this site solved my early problems with answers to my questions.

If a Saito is broken in, (about one hours running) and it quits suddenly on acceleration one of the needles is too lean, usually the LS needle. A Saito will almost never quit from being too rich above idle. If it will idle for several seconds then slowly die it is too rich, again usually the LS needle.

There would be a definite ability to pull away if the hover went flat

Here is some good footage of the .82 in a 5-6lb plane http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMrl6OYRgx0 Only running a 13x7 not sure what nitro though.

Thought i seen that pictures before somewere pretty cool. Finally got my new Saito. Didn't come with the Velocity Stack guess that will be the next purchase. Porobably will be a good idea since it's going in A Pitts 40.

The 62 is a nice engine. Don't forget to buy an O-ring to put between the carb body and the velocity stack as there is an open gap in this space that must be sealed. You can buy the O-ring at a local auto/plumbing supply store.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The reason for the crank throw comment was due to the changing crankcase volume in the single cylinder four stroke's piston going up and down being responsible to a large extent for the lubrication and evacuation of effluents in the lower end of the engine.
The Saito 300 twin has both pistons going to top dead center at the same time so it has excellent bottom end exchange of air and lubricant.
The old style 90T (not the newer 90TS) and the 100T have one piston going up and one going down at the same time so there is no change of crankcase volume. Therefore, the crankcase only has blow-by from the combustion chamber and there is no outside air coming in to dilute the acid products of combustion. Some of these engines had an air pump operated by the exhaust lobe of the right hand cam to pump outside air into the crankcase. The current production 100T's do not have this feature and you cannot get any parts for the pump..

Thanks, I can't believe how thin the hub is on that prop, an Evolution or MAS fits just fine. Can I get a number or do buy a few more motors. LOL

Here is the washer and a extra nut
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=SAI10028
The Saito 100 shaft threads are 8mm all the way back
You may could use some other washer that had a hole very close to 8mm. To buy a commercial (domestic) 8mm washer may not be the right way to go because the hole is generally too big.
Select one with a proper hole that fits like your Saito washer.
The Saito washer is not completely flat on the front side. They are just flat where the nut fits.
[ul]Here is a list of other engines that also have a M8 X 1.25 prop shaft thread size[*] Saito 1.20-2.70 [*] YS all two stroke [*] Rossi .40-.90 [*] Webra .80-.90

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The washer that came with the engine has a larger hole than the shaft and will only center if the OEM nut, with flange, is tightened into it. If I were to use another washer of the same size behind it, it would not fit correctly. Does the washer you linked me to fit the shaft without the OEM nut to center it?
Thanks
Thanks

I took the prop off one of my 100's and the nut does not go under the washer.
You must have a Tru Turn spinner nut?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXHMF3&P=ML
If you do, you will have to undercut the threads in the nut for clearance instead of using a washer

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I have a question for someone about proper fuel tank location for a Saito FA-100T. I have a new SIG Waco SRE that I want to power with a 100T but I am concerned that the tank location in this ARF may be position too low for the engine to draw fuel properly. It appears that the bottom of the tank (clunk position) will be about a 2 1/2 inch uphill draw to the carb intake nipples. I have no experience with this particular engine and would appreciate any advice one of you knowledgable people might be able to offer.
