Well I just smoked my ECU. Up to this point I had done everything right and at least the GSU was powering up. I had been very careful to have all the wires in the correct locations, polarity correct etc. In a dumb move I thought maybe the pins on the ECU for throttle were not working so I moved the cable over 1 spot to the right (airspeed I think) but I did not flip the cable. I smelled smoke right away and now it's really dead. The GSU does not even get power to it. This sucks because whatever was really wrong will now be masked my my Error reversing the polarity on the airspeed port.I am wondering if this can be repaired or am I out $500 bucks?

So I got my engine back, reinstalled everything exactly as I did the first time and now everything is working. The question I have now is why does the GSU show 92 C in my 65 degree F basement!
I tried twice to calibrate the probe by holding down the select menu and waiting for the calibration message to appear before releasing it. The GSU then displays various information but the temp does not change. Stuck on 92C

Here is a snip from the manual. Is this a misprint? Really, replace the fuel pump every 25 hours? That's a $350 pump! I dont recall this recommendation in the past with any of my other Jetcats and I cant say they ever replaced a pump at the 25 hour service either. What are you guys doing?

Did you send the long lead back when you smoked the ECU? That could have had some trauma. Also If you pass some heat over the probe tip does the temp change.?
If yes do a complete reset ( next stage after Temp)

Pump question. I’ve run plenty to greater hours, but they do deteriorate as the brushes wear. It’s a component that is almost impossible to judge wear on in our use. The note alerts you to monitor performance near the 25 hours running, if starts fail or idle stability changes look at the pump.
Also, the motors are not what they used to be, the brush gear has changed material. It’s why all manufacturers are slowly changing their ranges to brushless.
To me it’s like the 25hour service recommendation, so many factors influence life of the components

Thanks for the reply Dave. I sent George our US Jetcat technician an email last night and he responded right away! Here is what he said about the method I was using to calibrate the EGT:
Unfortunately that method does not work with the newer style engines.
Once it’s powered up, press and HOLD the Run button, then press and hold the Limits button until you see the EGT calibrate, then you can release both buttons.
I will give this a try but thought it would be good info to share with everyone.
Thanks,

I have a buddy who has the auto restart in his KT turbine and it saved his airplane when on the first few flights the engine flamed out (presumably from an air bubble in the fuel filter) and then it restarted and he was able to land. And this was in an F-18F.
I think this is EXACTLY where the auto restart can save you. And then again, I don't run fuel filters.
Frankly, I'm going to turn on all the auto restart functions in my engines that have that feature.

Then he should have done more ground running, shaking, flicking filters before taking off. It is not a fix for poor installations, it’s a fire hazard!

I tried the auto restart, it works ok but you better have some altitude. I think this is just a stepping stone for jetcat, the real benefit will be in the spark ignition motors. There is now a P220 with spark ignition , ECU is on the front board, starter is contact drive instead of magnetic because you need fast spool up. This stuff really geared toward UAVs but its cool to think we have auto relight , just like full scale. I believe you can have the auto restart as automatic , or pilot controlled on the p130.

Hey Vincent! My buddy bought that 262 you guys were talking about the year before!
This auto throttle thing has to be kept in mind in those positions in case of a flameout. It’s like running off the runway with the engine on or having an in flight control loss; there comes the point where the throttle is manually turned off.

Hi Guys.
I have a new P130Rx with a total of 16 runs on it now. The first 4 runs were uneventful but this weekend each of the 12 starts failed as the EGT never got past about 50 or 60C. After you realize its not going to start, just bringing the throttle and trim down and restarting the sequence results in a good start every time. So 24 starts for 12 runs. George at Dreamsworks / Jetcat had me take the Uaccel from 200 slowly to 250 but that did not fix the problem. The manual does not mention this particular error or the fix. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dom
