ORIGINAL: mu2driver

Mine came out right at 24lb. 9 oz.
Mine should be a hair over 25 now. I started around 26 but took out the wheel pants (6ozs) and those
5" dubro wheels that I was using at 11ozs/pair and I replaced them with some nice kavans with half the weight.

I don't like the looks of it without the pants though. I'm thinking
that the 33% H9 pants should be a good replacement.

Landing gear issue???

I was trial fitting the landing gear into the fusalage and noticed that the gear end is not long enough to reach over the two mounting holes!!! They only span over the one hole per side.

Drilling another hole on the landing gear block will probably be more difficult than the rest of the landing gear installation.

I had to file the openings out a little on the bottom of the hole and then it just barely makes it over the hole.

My servos in my wings are lighter than the MG's I am using a 24oz tank, my batt.s are small AA size, only one 5735 with an Airwild 3" arm for rudder, H9 Wheel pants 4" Lite wheels, No additional BS....

I just re weighted my plane and it must have gained a little weight its now 24lb. 14oz exactly..
Musta been the Pants...

In my last post I have refered to Composite-Arf as "CA".

I did not mean Carden Aircraft, Sorry if anyone took the wrong meaning.

You need to file the area like I said to releive the gear from hitting the fuse

mu2driver very very very nice Comp arf! Could you post some more pictures of the plane and the set-up.

What servos and radio equipment are you using?

I plan on using all Hitec digital servos, except for throttle and choke.
I will use some servos I have laying around for those.

Does anyone have any opinions on whether I should use yet another servo to kill the engine with a kill switch setup or can I just choke it to death to kill the engine?

I am trying to think on how I want to do the servos...

maybe Hitec 5925 for throttle, (4) Hitec 5945s for ailerons, and (4) JR 8611s for tail

Or go all JR 8611s with a 4735 on throttle

I was thinking about using the JR8611's until I found out that thay are over a hundred dollars each!!!

I decided to go with Hitec instead, I believe that they are just as good and are cheaper.

I will use (4) 5625 for ailerons
(2) 5645 for elevator
(1) 5735 for rudder

The 5735 is a larger servo than the others and has 264 oz/inches of torque and should be plenty.

JR 8611's can be had cheaper, need to call the place where you buy them and you can get them for no more then $100 a piece. I bet if you bought a pack of like 9 or 10 you could get it cheaper too.

The 8611's have quite the output some 250+oz would be a good choice if you have the cash? I would recommend the Hitec 5945's for aileron and elevator. You'll find they are the best bang for the Buck, that is if you can borrow the programer from someone. I have used the 5945 servo with out any problems, its a very good product.
As far as setup on mine I had to go with the minimum on radio gear, but its still more than enough control. People are amazed when they see me fly the way I do on this setup. I changed my setup around a little today, I had my backup batterie go bad, and so I replaced it with a 1100mh nmh pack. Its what I could get my hands on at the moment. I am planning to add another 5735 on rudder, got the servo today, and waiting for the linkage. SWB?

Yeah, I use Hitec 5945s and the 5645s right now in the H9 Edge with no problems, great servos. Just wondering if the JR 8611s are better...

kind of a throw up, Hitec 5945s are $75 each, JR 8611s are $100 each...

Hitec is lighter servo, Jr heavier

Jr has 80 ounces of more torque

Hitec is weaker

Jr needs a matchbox, Hitec doesnt

My buddy Michael and Josh Glavin did the programming for my servos last time and its beautiful, not even any buzzing it was so accurate.

BTW, that is an Airwild servo arm on your rudder hehe.

What size servo arms are you using for ailerons and elevator? What delfection are you getting?

What pushrods and clevises and ball links if your using different arms.

Hehe, thanks

Very nice! Does that balsa plate come already installed in the fuse or do you need to glue it in place? Is it sturdy and fiberglassed?

Steven I used the suplied hardware on all the surfaces except the rudder. I agree for the most part the hardware that comes with it seems cheesey but I went ahead and used it any way with no problems. The way I looked at it if its good enough for Jason Shulmen then its good enough for me. But really its ok, I did fill the holes in the horns with milled glass and redrill just to get a better fit. I went with the 5735 on rudder because my last three 33%ers I used the same setup with terrific results, it can do KE loops one after another all day long, with excellent control. The reason for me adding another 5735 is just to see if its any better?
Steven do you have a Comp-Arf?

At the moment I do not, but I will be getting one as soon as my dad lets me. I got about $1000 saved away and already have the ZDZ 80RV and muffler. Futaba 9CAP for radio. Probably be a good $2,500 easy with just plane and radio gear.

Of course this all depends on my licence and if my dad helps me out with a vehicle.[8D]

The plate does come in the kit, its made of balsa and glassed over with what appiers to be 3/4oz glass cloth. Its very flimsey untill you install it, You will want to put some vertical supports on it and get some milled glass to mix with all your epoxy. Pretty easy, just take your time. The hardest part to this is the canopy, but even thats not to difficult as long as you dont go to fast, and dont try to reinvent the wheel.

Yeah I couldnt figure out why the gave me 4 of the same shape and two bigger ply pieces, so I shaped the 2 bigger ones like the smaller ones and went with 3 per side. One thing for sure my canopy isnt comming off unless I want it to.hehehe
Ok pics I have you want pic here ya go...
