Thank you Doug for your nice comment, Thank you for putting out your plans for all to build and have fun building them. I am sure that I am going to have lots of fun with this boat, I have got a zen to put in it, but I do not have any of the hardware yet. Harold

I am in the painting part of the build at this time, the primer and paint that I am using on this boat is all Dupli-Color Truck, Van & SUV Acylic Lacquer, They also make a lacquer top clear coat. I am not sure if I should use that clear coat, I will be buffing it out with buffing compound and buffing polish after it is on, I do not have a way of spraying two part clear coat. The two colors that I am using are Candy apple red and Gunmetal gray. Look at the pics and tell me if the color and placement is ok, or if I need to change something OK. I will be wet sanding with 600 or 800 grit before clear coat. Do I put on any decals before or after clear coat? Thank you for any comments.
Harold

What is going on? When I took the masking tape and paper of the boat after painting it two small parts of the gray came off with the tape, so today sanded the chips and repainted. Take a look at the pic and see what is going on, I am not sure! This started after a few minutes of painting was done.

They are like air bubbles, I could watct them blow up.

Looks like maybe you got something spilt on the boat before you sprayed it maybe thats reacted with it? rest seems ok so seems odd but im no paint guru. The boats coming along niceley apart from this ,hope you get it sorted mate.Bye the way i wouldnt bother clearcoating over the decals ive had decals on my boat for two yrs and theyre like new.they have a 5 yr life outdoors so on a boat they should last you many years, plus if you decide to change them or you damage the boat and need to repair it you can just peel them off and repair it then replace them. You wont be able to do that with clear coat on top of them.

Thank you Mart, I think I may have an idea what is going on. I had the hull sitting out in the sun and when I touched the hull the red was warm and the gray was vary hot, how do they use the paint on trucks and SUV’s?

first of all did you wet sand it ??? if so the bubbles will be water (steem) coming out of the wood when you had it in the sun ....

puting out in the direct sun light is a no no with frest paint

i would say it was too hot

Hi Bentley Yes every thing was wet sanded primer and finsh paint was wet sanded, all the paint was done
in the shade. It was not till I wet sanded two spots that was pulled of with the masking tape and got it all
dry, then I set it out on the driveway and repainted that spot and it looked good when it was done, Then a
few min later the bubbling started it other places, I felt the gray and it was vary hot. I dont think the paint
cured enuff before putting it in direct Florida sun. Dummy Me.

The paint job is finally done, I am going to be putting on three coats of clear coat, and this paint job has been a pain in the but. Just sitting there looking at it I am thinking of adding a wing to it, It will not have any up lift or down when it is on plan, any comment on this? It will be made out of balsa wood and glass covered.

The main problem will be the wing being damaged when you flip or roll the boat. Doug

Doug I dont plan on rolling the boat over, But then any thing can happen. the wing will be able to handel
the flip onto it's top. I think. Thank you Doug for your input. What do you think of the build so far?

you dont need a wing ? trim the drive to get the boat running as it should, trim tabs can help but arent needed, yes you will flip the boat its the nature of fast boats im afraid.as for lift the shape of the hull creates lift itself ,run it and see in fact staying on the water is the main problem of this design ,if you can call i reliable fast boat design a problem lol

Thank you Mart been doing more thinking about a wing, I am not going to add one to this boat.
Thank you for all your good advice, and also thank you Doug for the same, you are all a big help.

The boat looks real good Harold. I like the color scheme too, although I think I am probably in the minority because I liked the cowl better in red. Take my word for it, you will flip it sooner or later unless you never give it full throttle. Doug

Minority of 3. I liked the red much better for the contrast it gave.

Glad you got the silver straightened out it looks really good.

Does this mean she'll be ready for the water next weekend
