Well, I just paid some more dues to Club Saito even though this is my first post in the forum. I got the 100 to put in a 3D Mini Bipe. Anyways, I have a question regarding this engine. I would like to mount the fuel tank over the CG, would I need a pump to do this, or will I'll be ok without one? I plan on running a muffler pressure tap to go back to the engine as well.

Ok, if I went with the Perry Pump, i'm going to need a vent line, correct? So, I have to leave the vent line open, or can I use the engine's muffler tap? Basically, what i'm asking, is since I can't have the tank closed off, how do I keep fuel from flowing out? Do I need to run the vent line around to the back of the tank and then to the front?

In 15%, Wildcat make a Premium and a Premium extra, with the extra having more oil. You have to look at the label closely. If using just the Premium, you might want to add even more than 2 oz. per gallon of extra oil.

The difference is 16% 80/20 castor/syn blend for the Premium and 18% same blend for the Premium Extra, I have run both and can't tell the difference, even the RCVs which recommend against 18% runs the same on either.

Thanks for pointing that out, I was totally unaware of that. I live in northern Maine right up on the Canadian border, closest hobby shop is about three hundred miles away. I always used Omega fuel in all my motors, got a deal on some Wildcat 15% this summer and it's great fuel. Guess I'll order up some of the premium extra, thanks for the post.

I live near the Wildcat fuel factory. I stopped by and talked to them about this mixture,and was told the reason for the premium extra was to meet the requirements for some engine companies warranties.

Here is the oil in the crankcase of my 2.20 from the very fuel you discuss. WildCat 10% with 18% 80/20 lube. The inside is prestine and clean. Bill the crank position is right where the compression stroke starts.

hobbsy, I wish you had a way to test the ph of that oil. I've had bearings corrode in a very dry climate, and I'm thinking maybe acidic oil was the culprit. I always run my engines dry while warm, then use a generous squirt of after-run oil. I've read here that the combustion of nitro forms an acid that can damage bearings. How do you feel about this? The corrosion was near the bottom of the bearing and resembled a level high water line at the top of the corroded area.

Tim, I use only Corrosion X as an afterrun, it is designed to protects things in a sea salt environment. I have not lost a bearing since starting to use it about 14 years ago. I just shoot it in the breather tube, then tilt the engine down and turn it a few times. On my Enya fourstrokes I shoot some in the carb mount bolt hole for long storage. A 16 oz aerosol can would last a guy with a couple of engines for two seasons at least.

Gentlemen, and ladies, I am in somewhat of a quandry.
I had asked a gentleman at the field if he had any mufflers laying around that I could buy, I got tired of waiting for Horizon. He offered the loan of his new one off a 100, as long as I gave him the new one ordered from the LHS when it came in. He then started talking about the motor. He bought it for a 60 sized Biplane, mounted it, and then decided he wanted more power. He offered me the motor for a NIB 91fx. A trip to the hobby store later and I am the proud owner of a virgin FA100.
Here is my problem:
I could either replace the FA91 in my Funtana 40, the FA91 in my Tiger 60 or get another kit to put it in. There is then the associated engine swaps that would occur in my hangar if I replaced either of the 91s. What do you think?

Concerning your friend. Really gsve you an FA-100 for an OS 91FX? Of all the OS engines I think there have been more complaints about that one than all the other OS models combined.
Does he have another Saito? If yes please don't let him see a psychiatrist before I see him.

He has a half dozen or so in various planes. I'm just waiting for him to get second thoughts on the pristine 120 he pulled out of his DP Ultimate because it didn't have the vertical he wanted. He needs some mechanical work done and I'll trade.[8D]

The killer combination with the Saito 220a and Extra 260 is either an APC 19x8 wide blade or a Menz 19x8. Performance is totally different than when using a 20x8. Vetical pull, horizontal speed, hover, this one weigh 13lbs. 18" props are generally a bit to small.
The engine has huge torque but it does seem to like to rev as well. Try the APC, maybe Zinger Pro but not regular Zinger. After 2 gallons of fuel the idle is solid at 1500 and maybe even lower!
Saito 220a is just to much fun!

Not really related to saito, but my first four stroke that made me want another is the magnum 91. It is on an ultrastick and used to have a 14x6.
Last time out I put a 14x8 on and it is amazing. Granted top end speed isn't there but who cares? It really shows off the engine! Really nice slow loops are possible and it just seems to pur along...
Back on to topic, I have a world models spitfire 60 which will eventually mate up with the saito 100 on the bench. Which would be the ideal prop for this combination?
