RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hi everybody,
I have a new Saito 180 just broken in and I have fired it for the first time on my plane. But I could'nt get a low idling speed and the plane would accelerate. []
The prop was a Menz 17x8. The low end needle has already been leaned.
My question is the following: the wooden Menz is light (60g = 2.11oz). If I buy a bigger prop made of plastic, an APC 18x6 for example, will it help
getting a more reliable lower idling speed ? I suppose it will because of the greater moment of inertia.
Does anybody has any experience on the subject ?
Thanks
Paul

All your assumptions are correct. The engine will idle much better with a heavy prop.

I have a satio 100 and everytime I tried to start the engine it fires, like a back fire, and spins the prop. I check the valve adjustment and tried again, no help. It just does the same thing over and over again.
Also, we broke the engine in according to the manuel and now this problem occur. I have a 14X8 prop, using MV 15% Cool power fuel, with a hangar 9 fs glow plug.
Any Suggestions. I would love to fly my new P-51 this summer

What type of furl filling system are you using. Had same problem with 3 line system. Went to a fuel filler and eliminated the 3rd line. No more flooding.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I got a question I hope someone can help me with. I have a Saito .91 on a Goldberg Extreem Edge 540. I'm still tail heavy with a 14x6 prop on the front and I'm getting to many RPMs out it as well, so my thinking is to try an APC 15x4W prop (much heavier) with a Harry Higley heavy hub. But I can't find any info on the inner diameter of the APC prop hole.
Because of the small (7mm) shaft on the Saito, I'm having trouble finding a prop I can use!
Does anyone know the inside diameter of the APC 15x4W prop? Is the hope small enough to be able to ream out for the Saito.
Thanks!

The smallest part of the hole in the hub is 1/4"
One guy bought a prop at the hobby shop that someone had reamed out already. He had to make a bushing to fit in the prop hub.

I don't know the ID of the APC 15x4 prop, but a visit to Landing Products (via Google search) should provide you with the info. Good luck.

From the Tower site - it doesn't give much useful information due to the error on the hub bore diameter. Obviously whoever made the entry had no clue as to what the dimensions meant?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
That was my guess as well, that it should read 1/4 but since Tower's site and Landing Products site didn't say for sure, I thought, what the heck, ask here. Surely someone has already tried this combo. Just wanted to make sure before I ordered a few of them.
Thank you to all! I think I'll take the chance and order them.

I just checked my prop pile onecuwldood and all my 15x4W APC's have been reamed out. Here is the contact info for APC. You might email or call them to find out for sure.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
You guys aren't going to believe what I've done now. I got a new throttle arm and proceeded to tune the engine on the ground after about 20 minutes of run time.
I was having a time and a half trying to get the cline regulator to work with the saito 82. Transition was just terrible and it would not run without the glow heat connected. I took off the regulator and set it up without anything special. Same deal and top rpms were not anywhere close to what they should have been. I cursed at it and it did no good. What's more, it was trying to overheat. I kept the runs pretty short and watched the temp closely. Read a bunch of threads and couldn't really find a match.
I went to take the spinner off and to look at everything from the beginning. I was quite shocked to find I had put an APC 16X6 prop on there. I have a couple of APC 14X4 props for this engine. My YS110 is currently on the bench next to the new plane and I had taken off the prop and accidently put it on the saito 82. I have kicked myself in the arse for this and vowed to clean up my bench. Incidently, if anyone wants to know, a saito 82 will tach about 7300 rpms on an APC 16X6, but I don't recommend it.
You guys don't think I've hurt it, do you?
