Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 build
#1151
Thanks Rick, I don't mean to hijack this forum. Just gets my craw when I see Jay Smith stating the hobby industry is struggling (April 2017) and that we should be "ambassadors". How about sensible dues for a start and AMA cuts some of the "pork" spending? Just infuriates me. Aw............
But back to UPROAR, the season here is just getting nice. I'm going to go over mine and do some preflight checks. Tons of fun with an UPROAR, especially with its spirited flying.

Well, for some reason or another, I've had the itch for yet another Uproar. It's been 10-11yrs. since I last built one so figured why not. I got my kit yesterday in the mail. Looking at it quickly, the die cutting on the balsa wasn't the best and kind of crushed around the edges. Hopefully it won't be an issue when I start the build. I plan on throwing this one together ASAP. I plan to mod the tail feathers a bit and prob. the ailerons as well. Even thought about trying to fit some wheel pants on......I think it would really dress the plane up!! Power will be a NIB OS .46FX.
My last Uproar had aileron flutter issues at full power (running an APC 12x4) but I eventually figured it out and got rid of it. I'll prob. go ahead and seal all hinges on this one as a preventative. I want something that's cheap, and fun to just burn holes in the sky and throw around without care. Should fit the bill nicely. I might even order a couple more kits just to have on hand.....

I just noticed that Tower has the Uproar @ $57 now??????? I paid $54 plus shipping a few days ago. I sure hope that the price isn't going to start jumping on this plane.....that was one of the things that made it so attractive. You guys think that Tower will have a super sale on them like they did a couple of times last year?

Price on the UPROAR goes up and down, just have to be ready when Tower has a sale on them. I'd buy another if I didn't have the typical modeler's stash that I haven't gotten to.
Flygilmore: I also thought I was going to "throw" one together and it took me 9 months. We did have some health here issues that year. You're also prob. a faster builder than I am. Enjoy the build. It's an interesting plane.

Lol.......I've built and scratch built more than 1 Uproar in my day. Last one took only about 3-4 evenings to have it ready to cover. It's just been a good while since I've really paid much attention to these little guys. I wanted a nice 1 piece funflyer that I could just throw in the car or that I can literally step out my basement door and fly in my yard. I'll be keeping an eye out for another sale!

Tower Hobbies Uproar V2 GP/EP ARF
Hey guys, has anyone seen the new V2 Uproar being offered with side force generators, a two-piece wing (aluminum wing joiner) from Tower? It's in stock for $99 no kit available of course!

Look how they made the ailerons more normal to what we're used to. Actually the odd funky shape of the original was one of my first attractions to the model. The original shape to me always looked like they were put on reverse of how they should be put on. But to me that's what makes it so endearing. $99 for the ARF guys (and I'm one of them) and if it goes on sale. they'll sell a ton of those.

For me I really like the look of the new Uproar with the wing shape on the ailerons and also the slight change I see to the vert and horizontal stabilizers. I only fly electric anymore (electric only field) so the fact that it's ep/gp is a bonus for me, I'm not really an ARF guy anymore but I think I need this one!

I think they have done a nice job revamping and updating the ARF.
Good thing is, as many of us have done, the kit lends itself well to some bashing and updating.

I couldn't resist and bought the new Uproar ARF yesterday for $89, to cheap to pass up. Once I finish my Scepter I'll be building my Uproar kit and will most likely make few changes similar to the ARF such as the side-force generators.

SFG's
Without a doubt SFG's will be a fun addition to an Uproar. I have no doubt that knife edge will be improved.
At one point I actually considered building some for mine. But I was so focused on weight, I blew it off.
If you're keeping it light. I expect you'd be able to slow the thing down to nothing and keep it in the air and keep aileron control with SFG's. Assuming a balance point that is much further back than that listed on the plans (or instructions wherever they list it). Heck, I can get mine pretty slow with out the SFG's..
Enjoy your new ARF. Hopefully it will inspire you to chop up that kit a bit....and create a cool one of a kind kit build..

Fellas,
For fun and comparison I traced the outline of the aileron, horizontal/vert stabilizers, rudder, and side-force generator on the Uproar V2. I scanned it into my plotter and saved it as a PDF but for some reason I wasn't able to upload it here. It is interesting to see the difference and I might make similar changes when I build my uproar kit later this summer.
