Hey guys,

JPEE,

Glad to hear you went ahead with an all new motor...as you say, it's not worth another crash, and the thought of something going wrong with the motor in the middle of a flight...and you got a killer deal too!

Sometimes you just have to throw in the towel, and start new....kinda reminds me of a couple of B400's I used to have....lol...

Nick,

Sounds like you have plenty of time to get around to the bearing press project.

Some of your classes sound hard...[X(] Just the word CALCULUS sends chills up my spine... Good luck.

Mark,

Well, we got some snow, if that counts...about 2 inches, nothing too much. This time last year, we got dumped on by 15 inches...

Glad you at least got to hover a bit...and your temps in the 70's sure sounds nice....it looks like we MIGHT break the 40 degree barrier this weekend, at 40 degrees...a regular heat wave..lol..

Cool on Phoenix, have you tried it out yet??

Glenn

Glenn,

Yeah, I am going to have my hands full with these classes. I can't wait to finish the gen eds and get to the fun electronic classes. I have a co-worker who took the same Biology class and said it was pretty hard. I think I will do ok if I don't wait till the last minute to do my homework and study for tests like I have in the past. The computer class should be fun.

Guys,

Here is my bearing installer. Once you open the file click on the part. Then it will look like metal and you can spin it around.

Thanks JPEE.

I went to my company's Christmas party today. I met some of the techs that I call for the first time and they are pretty funny.

Okay, don't know what happened with that picture...super sized.

But as you can imagine it was a dismal day but I hadn't flown for a few weeks now and really wanted to get out there.

When I got to my 'field' there was a guy flying a foam wing...he was a bit surprised when I unpacked my 500 asking if I were sure I wanted to fly in such windy conditions. I waited a bit but decided it wasn't that bad and told him sure. Took a battery pack for me to get used to it but then by my second I was kinda letting loose and having fun. After wards the guy said he was very impressed how the heli handled the wind.

All in all it was a good time flying and was kinda nice to have a bit of an audience for a change. Found out that a few guys fly at our 'subdivision' field on the weekends, mainly foamy type parkflier airplanes, so will be nice to meet up with them to fly...plus it seems I am the only one with a heli so all eye's on me I guess!

Also got my Phoenix sim this past Saturday...gotta love that brown truck ...and have to say its leaps beyond what I'm used to with my old RF G2. I am amazed at how realistic it is to the real thing. Very happy with it.

Nick,

Sounds like you had fun at your Christmas party.

Staying at home definitely will help in the finance department, hopefully the tuition and parking garage bill won't be all that bad.

Good luck with the Biology class...shouldn't be all that bad...just a lot of memorization. []

JPEE,

did you get your new 500L motor...and are things drying out for you? Hope all is doing well.

Hello Mark,

A very nice neighborhood you have there, the entire tract looks brand new!

It's nice to hear that you got in some flying in. That sounds nice that you met some guys in the hobby and can share together. You being the only heli guy makes you really stand out, thats cool.

Great news on the Phoenix! I hope it brings you hours of pleasure and helps with your skill set.

A few years ago (this is glenn's story) he met this "older" guy at the field. The wind was blowing and Glenn said; ya really gonna fly in this wind?" (I think his name was Rob) said, the only that hampers my flying is how far I can see the heli, the weather has no impact at all. So he flew and Glenn was suprised how well it went. That was a mile stone for us both after he told me the story and we started flying no matter how hard the wind was, the 500 can handle anything you can throw at it. Now later we/I simply don't care if it is clear or blowing. I will say, if the wind is really hard "I" can fly in it yes, but it's just not fun at that point. But there was many a day I would look out the window and see the leaves moving and stay home................what a loss that was looking back now.

My motor came in two hours ago! YIPPEE. The wife has the car out of the garage right now but once she gets home I'll heat up the garage install the mother and do a test hover inside as it is still raining cats and dogs (big dogs too) We might get a break on Thursday but I would bet the access road to the field will be under water again.

Here is what Glenn's and my weather forcasts are. If Gleen puts on some gloves he is good to go LOL

Hey guys,

Nick,

Glad you enjoyed your work's Christmas party, sounds like you enjoyed it.

Mark,

Glad you got out and braved the wind...it's always a bit of a challenge, but is actually really good practice, keeps you on your toes for sure!

Glad you are enjoying Phoenix, it's very well done, and I love mine. Are they shipping it now with v3.0? Last time I checked, it was still in Beta...I have been sticking with 2.5v for now...I'll wait until 3.0 is ready for prime time...

The older guy flying in the wind was Rob, a friend at my plane field. Here he is in the wind, with a Trex 250 yet! I think the wind was 15-18 MPH that day...[X(]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10cocQZJrzk

JPEE,

I was watching the evening news, and the first 5 minutes were devoted to you guys in Cali....man, what a mess! And it looks like no real relief in sight...I hope it clears up for you before too long..

It's kinda funny (not for you I guess) watching the 350+ car crashes....it's like here when it snows...seems ridiculous that rain can make driving that bad, but it's just as ridiculous here when the first 1-2 inches of snow falls...I guess it's all relative to the climates...I can't imagine So Cal with an inch or two of SNOW!!

Not much new here guys....certainly no flying. I think Justin is doing some flying, he texted me and asked if I had a spare header fuel tank ??? Who knows...it's way to cold for me to fly!

Mark,

That is good you got to fly and will have some people to fly with. I have also had a lot of airplane people ask if I would fly in high wind conditions while they have all their stuff packed away.

JPEE,

Have fun with the new motor.

Hey Glenn,

Didn't you know we here in California are news worthy? We have a crap Governor, second highest taxes in the USA, some of the toughest gun laws to hurt the homeowner and empower the criminals.........I could go on and on, earthquakes, fires, no water, I could go on and on LMAO. I guess I did..........

Today I got the new motor in the 500 and she looks great and appears to be whole again. After checking the TT again it was pretty rough so I replaced the and now I can spin the head and the head and tail spin freely forever! However, with the rain I did not have a chance to spool her up, that will have to wait for another day.

Tonight I installed flying, landing lights on the T-28. They came out pretty well. Green on one wing tip, red on the other. White lights on the front of the wings for landing and lazy flashing red lights at the top of the tail and another on under the fuse a little more forward. Me likie!

Here again, it will be some time before I can try that puppy out and see how she looks at dusk. While I was in there horsing I found an Allen screw on the motors main shaft loose and one leg of the motor mount was cracked to where it was flexing under torq. Sometimes if I come down hard I bump the prop on the runway and that must be the culprit that took out the motor mount.

What's going on in the cold country you guys?

JPEE,

When your weather is better it would be cool to see some pics of the lights on your plane.

There isn't much going on here. I have been eating a lot of holiday goodies.

Hi Nick,

It's still raing cats and dogs here but................................ I just did a pack hover in the back yard inbetween down pours and the 500 sounds good. What happend on the main gear was the on-way had slid down in the main gear thus making it stick higher. I had all of my 500 stuff on a
table so I mght have grabbed a used one that was not set up correctly? But all seems well now. We might have a few hours of Sunlight on Thursday or Friday but the field is under water so there really is no where to test her out. Even so there won't be place to fly until things dry out.

As soon as we have some decent weather I will take a snap or two of the T-28, I am excited to try it. I consider it a throw away plane now after two years of fun and crashes LOL so should "I" lose it no big loss.

JPEE,

Your landing lights for the T28 sounds very cool...I did a shot with those string lights some time ago but they just weren't powerful enough to make a major difference...I think the newer white LED's are much brighter and easier to see...definitely posts some pics when you have the chance. And good job!

Sorry about all the rain your getting...at least no land slides where you live right? You guys really aren't getting a break out there so take care.

Glad to hear you got the chance to test hover your new motor and everything sounds great.

Nick,

You and me both eating all kinds of holiday goodies! I think each day this week at work they have had some kind of party...and sweets!

Glenn,

Yep, loving the Phoenix sim. Have been practicing some things I'm a bit rusty on...of course this mornings flight you'd really not think so. Some days your just 'off'.

Hey guys,

JPEE,

I see where the nasty stuff is headed out for ya....yeah...straight over to me!!!![sm=omg_smile.gif] We might be looking at a significant snow event here come Sunday night...too early to tell yet, but no white Christmas here this year...

I'll bet your lights will look pretty cool when you get it up in the air flying around...

Glad your test hover went well, hope the fields dry up enough for some flight soon. Don't do like I did one year and put the heli down, and watch it sink in the mud!

Nick,

Aren't you supposed to wait for Christmas to eat the goodies??

Mark,

I figured you'd like Phoenix...maybe when you get settled down after the holidays, we'll have to hook up on the mutliplayer online thing...

Yeah, I know all too well about those "off days".... some days, I just feel like everything is there, other days not so much...

Nothing new here. Still just learning the Macbook and watching "The Sopranos" on Netflix discs...never saw the series when it was on HBO, never knew what I was missing, it really is as good as they say....can't wait to get the next disc each week!

Hi everyone,

Glenn,

It was a total mess today...felt like I was chasing the heli all over the sky, it even got behind me one time...unreal.

I think we are going to be getting some nasty weather this weekend also...probably the same stuff you'll be getting...so going to try and get out tomorrow morning if possible.

I'm a big StarTrek fan and so a few years back got the entire disc set of Voyager...must have spent a week indoors just watching one disc after another...it was great! So I can relate with you on your Soprano catch-up. Enjoy!

No, you do not wait until Christmas to eat the holiday goodies...esp. when they are laid out in front of you all evening long at work!

JPEE,

do you have your running lights hooked up in a way to turn them on/off with the flip of a transmitter switch, say the gear switch? The lights that I messed around with plugged directly into a vacant channel on the receiver and so it had the ability to turn on and off...kinda cool if your flying during the day and can turn on via the transmitter the front LED light upon approach.

Well guys, can you believe Christmas is Saturday??? Anyone getting any goodies? JPEE and I already got ours!

Mark

Mark,

I am presently uploading a video of the lights and am at 82% LOL so I will come back and post with the hour. GO FOR THE HD 720

As far as putting them on a switch, I am embarrassed to say............. I messed with that for 45 minutes last night and could not figure how to set the radio to make the radio switchs connect to the rx. I have AUXs and GEAR open of course on the rx so it should have been easy. ...yea right. So I played with my DX7 until I was ready to sail it across the garage. I had a lot to do for today as we had the grand children over for baking cookies (hear that nick, more food). Then out of a cookie doe they made ornaments for the tree, then we bake them and when cool they get hand painted. So my day was full today and to add to my load we all went to Mc Donalds which I NEVER eat at. Now I rmember why, $20.00 for Mc Nuggets and soda's. Tomorrow I hope to crack open the manual to find how to set a radio toggles to tie into the slot of my choice on the rx. No biggie, just busy. Stand by for the video.

This is a video from the garage WITH the planes and house lites on. Then I kill the house lights and film the plane again. Then I set the camera on the ground and taxi down the driveway and come back. In other words, it's not great but you will get the idea. I taped the wires under the wings. For the tail fin and sliced it open from the front and then carefully stabbed the wires in the crack from the top down to the fuse then brought them inside. If this works out I will go all of the way with my Apprentice and do a top knotch job, but I am facing the point that the T-28 could go down if I loose my orientation when I try this, so the good plane stays on the shelf for now. This is my beta.
PS: I had a bit of trouble with the wires, could be longer. I WILL have to get extension for the Appprentice.

Glenn,

That is cool you like the Sopranos. I still haven't seen them.

When the food is out in the open it is fair game.

Mark,

I made room for my Christmas gifts today. I turned my heli work bench into an electronic work bench.

JPEE,

It sounds like you had a fun day today.

Your plane looks cool with the lights.

Guys,

Grand RC is going to have a new website soon. http://grandrc10.chainreactionweb.com/

Guys,

JPEE,

Those lights look cool....they add alot to the overall effect, for sure...nice work!

Nick,

I wasn't sure if the Sopranos would be something I would like....turns out I can't get enough of it...I can see why it was such a big deal when it was on in the early-mid 2000's...when I didn't have HBO...

It works out well on Netflix. For about $10 a month, you can get a disc a week, which has 3 episodes. I'm on season 3 now. The actor that plays Tony Soprano, James Gandolfini, is an excellent actor, I think he won like 3 emmy awards for his role in the show.

I get a half day at work tomorrow....but since Christmas falls on Saturday, it's like a normal weekend...[&o]..no extra days off..

I guess if people leave the stuff laying around...what do they expect?

Hi guys,

JPEE,

Terrific job on the light install on your plane, the video of it really showed how good it looked...those white LED's are very bright and the blinking red lights top and bottom of fuse really gives it character.

Glenn, sorry you have to work Christmas...even half a day. [] I guess Mazda doesn't consider it holiday pay?

Nick,

Making room for new projects I see.

We had to make a trip to Worst World yesterday morning to get some food items and it was a nightmare...both parking and shopping. If you don't think the holiday's are here...make a trip and you'll see!

Nick,

SORRY, had not noticed before when I looked at the bearing installer that is was in 3D and would allow me a 360 degree view. That is just toooo cool, well done again!
Study hard Nick, the rewards will come back ten fold, believe me!

Mark,

"I" think you miss read Glenn's post, he has to work Christmas Eve half day. Glenn, am I correct in my understanding?
Sorry to hear the horror story of shopping, we do that stuff early on and during the week being OLD and retired LOL, certainly a benifit.

Glenn,
Sounds like your getting the pounding, its 38 there right now (weather wise lol) sorry to hear that and three days of snow knocking at your door to boot! The Sun is shinning here right now but it is supposed to start raining very soon. Then next week another storm is coming will this every end?

While the sun is shinning I am going out now to try a pack on the 500 and look for anymore gremlins. Even if the field is flooded which I expect, there is a big mud field across the street to use for a test at least.

If I don't log back on later, let me say it has been a privledge to share time with you three gentlemen here this past year again.

A HO HO HO AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS

JPEE,

I redid part of my bearing installer. It is a little smaller and now the screws that attach the engine to it are recessed, so it could be attached to a vise easier. I just need to get the specs on the threads for a M3 screw and it will be pretty much done.

I am also still working on my battery management system. I got most of the circuit board designed. I have to find a connector and finish the design of a DC-DC converter. It takes a lot of time to design a simple DC-DC converter, so that is why I did this part of the project last. That will power all the 5V parts and a couple of LCD's. It would take 12-14V and convert it down to 5V at 3A. So far I have redesigned it 3 times. I keep forgetting about stuff that needs power from it. Then when I can't find the exact part I need I have to find one close to it and redesign it around that part.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Hey guys,

Merry Christmas!!!

JPEE,

Yeah, you are correct, I had to work half a day yesterday, Christmas eve, but no work today, we are closed...but, I do get paid for the day today at least....

I got lucky here and missed the big storm, it is going too far east, out into the Atlantic Ocean....good riddance...lol...

Nick,

I just got a chance to look at your PDF on the bearing installer...when I went to look at it on the Macbook, it wouldn't come up...[&o] I need to check into that, I may need an Adobe update... The PDF looks awesome in 3-D !!

Sounds like you are still enjoying tweaking the battery management system, hope it gets a little better each time.

Mark,

Hope you and yours are having a very Merry Christmas!

Glenn
