My grandson is now 1 year old.
His party didn't go exactly as planned, though. His mom's adoptive parents paid the church they attend $50 for use of a room from 1 to 3 PM today. The door was supposed to be unlocked at 12:30 so they could set up for the party. Nobody showed up to unlock the door.
My son tried calling the church, but it went straight to voicemail. To make a long story short, eventually we all wound up at a nearby pizza place that pushed some tables together for about 20 people. So we still had his party, just not where we originally planned to have it.
But I don't think he minded too much.
Especially when he got his cake!
Preparing to dig in:

Messy, but happy!

They may come over for a while tomorrow. It was a good day, after all!

You better get an apology with your refund + compensation for your inconvenience. Belated Happy Birthday to your grandson.

ahhhhh, thats nice of the pizza place where I'd rather have it just because it's been a while since I went to a pizza place that wasn't just pickup. Windy till dusk, just worked on the CL circle, a little painting and when the wind died, ran the burn barrel.

I think the kid likes cake.

Yes, he did like that cake! He also kept trying to steal the pepperoni off his mom's pizza, but got caught every time! He kept trying, though!
It was pretty breezy here yesterday as well.
The pizza place was Pizza Ranch.

Lots of good memories of birthdays at pizza places. Like everything else it took a hit during covid but we still have some decent dine in pizza. The local Chucky Cheese actually has one of the best salad bars in town.

David, do you know anything about the RCV-90 SP? I found one for sale at a very reasonable price and I'm trying to decide if I should pull the trigger.

I have no experience of RCV engines myself but on talking to the owner of a model shop when I lived in England, he said that the RCV SPs overheated.

A friend at my local club had a rather more conventional RCV CD engine. I cannot remember the cubic capacity but it flew a Flair Puppeteer, a 1/5 semi-scale Sopwith Pup well enough.

If you fancy something different go for it. If you want a good four stroke buy a Saito, Laser or OS.

So, 11th March has come and gone again, my seventy-sixth birthday! I celebrated it at the local restaurant with one of my dog-walking ladies who gave me a knife as a birthday present! I had to give her one centime in return because traditionally in France, if someone gives you a present of a knife, you have to give something back because the friendship will be cut if you don't! Incidentally my Tiko goes mad with delight when we are visited by either of our dog-walking ladies. The dogs run around the fields like things possessed!

As for myself the previous twelve months have been pretty good with no major issues compared with the twelve months prior to that when I lost four friends and relatives between August and October. The coming weeks will see the days getting longer and warmer, the roadside ditches will bloom with wild flowers, the lambs have already been born and the deer will start to give birth to their fawns and so the annual changes will continue as they have for millenia.

I am concerned about the war in Ukraine. I've seen drone footage of some of the Russian defences and they look like something out of a military textbook. If they are like that all along the front they will be very difficult to get through. If the Ukrainians are going to succeed they will need substantially more backing from the West than they have received so far. If the Russians prevail will they stop at Ukraine and what price the Chinese taking Taiwan?

As for aeromodelling I have just completed a new wing for one of the Barons. I made the wing ribs out of depron foam for the first time and it's fully 100 grammes or 3 ozs lighter than the standard wing. I have to finish off my large Mystic sports model, my late best friend's Flying Flea and the restoration of a DSM patternship, the Aerostar 62 before embarking on my "masterpiece" a 1/4 scale Fokker triplane.

So it's health, wealth and happiness from me and I look forward to hearing from you all until my seventy-seventh birthday!

PS.

I just want to put in a good word for De Luxe Materials Super Phatic glue. I used this glue on a test piece with large Kavan pinned hinges such as will be used on my Laser 155 powered Mystic. It's an English product so perhaps it's not available stateside.Slots were made into two pieces of scrap 1/4" (6mm) balsa. Five drops of the glue were put on each face of each leaf of the hinge and the two pieces of wood were pressed together. Having left the joint to dry for more than 24 hours I found it impossible to pull the two pieces of wood apart. Normally I put some form of grease on the fulcrum, usually butter, but this time I did not bother. The hinge moves freely and I did not add cocktail sticks or dress makers' pins.

I have used this glue extensively in the build of the new wing of my Baron and have been very impressed by it. I used the Uhu POR on the depron wing ribs and the carbon fibre leadng edge. I was equally impressed by this contact adhesive.

Default Happy Birthday David;

Hi David; Happy B-Day and best wishes to you. You are catching up to me fast, as I will be 80 shortly, but I secretly know that I will always be a few moments ahead of you.

I always enjoy reading your interesting submissions herein, something new all the time. As for myself, I have a new stubborn ailment; just before X-mas, I was working on a small woodworking project, namely making a plywood mounting platform for my new Milwaukee Lipo Battery powered small 8" table saw. Everything went AOK as planned, and for several wood to wood screwed'n'glued joints I used my ever faithful Jorgensen clamps to tightly hold the parts together. Fine, the little saw worked great as I expected. However, about 3/4 days later my RS wrist/hand/fingers were sore and aching, I guess from twisting the clamps up tight.......kept up hurting into Feb, [last month], so I went to a hand specialist Doc, who in turn suggested I see a neurologist for further testing, feeling I may be suffering from Carpel Tunnel....? Waiting to see the new Doc, and have been wearing a wrist/hand brace for 2 months now. Building hurts, PC use hurts, even eating hurts holding the utensils....Crap! this a'gettin old sucks big-time, but few Friends have told me 'a'gettin old sure beats da alternative'...Oh Yeah? What can you say.....

Will Close David, again Happy B-Day wishes to you from Wickenburg, Arizona,

Joe Nagy.

Lavender is supposed to be a lucrative crop, so will see.

In the meantime though, I will be able to get some flying in at home between hay harvests. Been a few years since I flew, just hope my batteries have all survived.

I flew the Baron with its new wing yesterday. It is powered by an OS 52FS and it is entered in this year's Coupe Des Barons. Never heard of La Coupe Des Barons? It's a competition for a three channel French trainer. See below for footage of last year's event. The model flew very well but the engine ran out of fuel as I was lined up for a landing and it landed undamaged in a fallow field. I have since fitted a bigger tank. It requires a little cosmetic work, some fine tuning of the engine and I need to make up some sort of gun for it to comply with the rules of La Coupe Des Barons. I'm very pleased with the new lightweight wing. I made the ribs out of depron and it's fully 100 grammes or 3 ozs lighter than standard. Incidentally I have covered the underside of the port wing in black film and the underside of the starboard wing in white similar to the early WW2 RAF fighters.

The basic Baron must be pretty overbuilt. I guess with 28 ribs it was supposed to look more scale like?

Thanks for the info Mike. I made up a mock up of a machine gun yesterday evening out of scrap balsa, a piece of tube and the remains of an ammunition belt from a Williams Bros machine gun! It's not very realistic but as most Barons get damaged in the competition, I'm not worried!

I will however, give Square Space an order for two Spandaus for my much vaunted Fokker Triplane when I get round to building it.

Yesterday I hinged the rudder and elevator to the Galaxy Models "Mystic." I used large Kavan pinned hinges and for the first time I used De Luxe Materials Superphatic glue as the adhesive. I had been impressed by the quality of this glue when building a wing for my Baron which featured depron wing ribs, also a first for me. Previously I had always used epoxy as the glue for hinges and I'd always applied some form of grease to the pivot before applying the glue. I usually used butter for this purpose! As Superphatic is a water based glue I did not bother with greasing the pivot. I placed five spots of Superphatic on each side of one leaf of each hinge. These were then inserted into the tailplane. Five more spots on each side of the other leaf then I fitted the elevator. I did the same with the rudder. By yesterday evening I was able to lift the model and wag it about holding on to the rudder and elevator! Thats without any pins or cocktail sticks. Note the usual immaculately tidy workshop!

Having turned 76 on 11th March I've decided to treat both myself and the model to a white GRP undercarriage, (landing gear,) from Carbon Copy.

Hello everyone just Checking in. It's good this thread is alive and cooking too bad posting pic's is still FUBAR.

Happy belated birthday DAVID......Many more to you.

It seems many things is in a state of decline, I am staying on the sidelines watching, nothing moves fast for me lately except ageing. I am faced with a bunch of uncertainty lately but hanging in pretty good.
My mower has failed me though I put in a lot of work on it last summer, it is failing to start, I will go over it one more time, before i replace it with something new, The grass is pretty high.

To all god bless!
