no interest here either . The question should be is anyone crazy enough to buy one with there issues they have with just about every engine they have bought out . Instead of fixing things they just bring out another defective product . Its not just the initial price its the spare parts you have to buy and then when you decide its just not worth the trouble you have to factor in the replacement engines price . So instead of saving about %40 of a decent engine it cost you double and not to mention the triple bypass you have to have when your head explodes trying to chuck the thing over the back fence . Cheers the pope

I know the 9cc has a bad rep, but in my opinion the GF38 is a good engine for the money - at least it has been so far. It starts easily, runs as smoothly as you can expect from a big single, and the noise level is not bad - compared to a 2 stroke. More power would be nice, but isn't it always? If the 30 is anything like the 38 then I would be interested.
Come to that I've heard good reports about the 35 2 stroke too.

I agree with Rob C, the engines I have seen are well made and run reasonably well - when you get the timing sorted out. I am puzzled why they set the timing at 40DBTC and supply a 30DBTC module other than as previously noted on this forum to try and get more power at the expense of idle and vibration. Given that a Saito 30cc gasser cost 770USD and even an ASP180 with gas conversion costs circa 550USD I too would be interested - but not until I know more about the timing set up.

I have 2x ngh gf38 And they both run well. Had to adjust timing on one of them. the other was ok. I have 3 friends that have gf38 and they all run ok. not the biggest power but never had a dead stick. it run and run
I am interested in the new 30cc but want some more info first.

Hey tyor, just a quick question. How have you found your Saito FG-84R3? Did you get any modifications done to the big-end (bearing) or intake mainifold? I have been reading up on it, was thinking about a project next year, but would use a Saito FG-60R3.
Also agree on the reliability of the NGH GF-38. It might pop and splutter from time to time, but as yet I have never had a deadstick with it.

Hi I have not done any modifications on my fg84. Exept I dont follow the manual in tuning. The manual says H-needle 2.5 turn out. i Use 4-turn on the H-needle and tune the engine with the L needle. After recomandations from other users. It runs a little rich but have never stopped. And the temp on the sylinders doesent differ to much.
Here are a video from warbirdweekend her in Norway.
My ESM val with ngh38 0:22-2:27
My polikarpov I16 with saito fg84 at 32:40-35:55 and 1:20:10-1:25:40. I16 is not easy to land. 12kg(26lb) and 2meter vingspan. It is not a slow flyer hehe. The lavochkin la 7 in my second flight with the Polikarpov have a saito fg60. Really great engine

Hey Tyor, looked like an awesome warbird weekend!! Good to see the I16 flying again, looks great in the air, but a real bear to land. Must really get the adrenaline buzzing when you know it's time to land!!
Good to see the Val is still performing, I am still waiting for a replacement wing for my Corsair. The FG-60R3 looks and sounds great, I am thinking of putting one on a 80' ESM Seafury.
I earlier posted that I had never had a deadstick with my NGH GF-38. Well now I have! Flying my Waco, pulled up into a vertical climb, and then pulled back the throttle to idle at the top of the climb. The model fell into a dive and then I went to open the throttle, nothing there, the engine had quit. My fault, the idle was set a little low and I think to pull back to idle at the top of a vertical climb was outside the normal for it. Anyway, managed to get it on the ground in an unmown paddock, flipped upside down. When I got it back there was no damage so I flew it again. The engine ran just fine!!!
I wanted to post a video of the flight, but the quality was aweful, I will have to try again with a different camera.

Good you dont damage your plane. We have this warbirdweekend every year the last weekend in August. The big eindecker and the big tigermoth was visitors from Germany, they work for Tony clark and the planes was kits from Paolo Severin. Both powered by valach 120cc. boxer in the eindecher and inline in the tigermoth. Really impressive models.
Have got better oleo legs for the I16 now. The old one was bending under landing. thats way it nose over every time. think it will work better now.

Drive hub movement.
Hi All,
I don't know if this has been covered before with the length of the thread, but after replacing the prop to check a different size prop the engine would not idle as well as it used to. After checking everything I removed the prop and then found the movement in the prop drive hub, see in the video.

This is a reply to an earlier post.
Yes the nuts get lose although tightened very hard!
At back-fire they do.
When using a hand drill, waiting for the starter to arrive, they get lose all the time.
Tried putting a small amount of grease on the small cone to allow them to go closer and tighter doesn't help!
I'd love a better prop connection or at least better lock nuts.

Thanks W1ind6urfa and SrT. Yes, I could do either or. I knew the idle was a tad low, was maximum trim up and didn't want to fiddle with the idle mixture as the transition was good on acceleration. I figured the engine would lean a little in the air, so figured it would be fine as it had proven to be on earlier flights. I think I just tried to get too clever with it. I will move the mechanical linkage to give higher idle, and then trim down to where I want it (slightly faster than before!!!!)

Well, I finally managed to get some video footage. It is a little out of focus in a few areas, but the relevant bits seem o.k. Idle was a little dodgy, I believe it was idling at the bottom of the high speed needle rather than on the slow speed needle. I tinkered with it after the flight and it was better idling on the second flight.

Thanks fellas, yes we are lucky to have that site. Still a little snow on the tops as we leave winter and enter spring. The land is owned by a local vineyard operation, we get to use it as long as we keep the grass trimmed down so it looks good from the highway which passes by. A good "advertisement" for their vineyard brand. The only negative is the young poplar trees at the Northern end. Means you have to drop into the field from higher altitude, and as the video shows, this means you carry quite a lot of speed into the landing. The Waco holds it's tail off for ages, if you try to pull elevator to get the tail on the ground it gets airborne again!! That's why I can't turn at the end of the strip until I am almost in the long grass!!
