Hey guys,
Not much up out this way except the temperature....I think Nick's heat wave over there has drifted my way...supposed to be 102 on Friday, with heat indexes near or above 110...[X(]
JPEE,
I liked your shakey thumbs story, reminds me of the first time I flew in front of about 6 people at my heli club for the first time....and I think that's a bit worse, with fellow heli pilots watching your every move....at least the general public doesn't really notice if you make a little mistake, but there is no hiding it from your fellow pilots...
Glad you had a fun time in the desert on the quads...kind of a change of pace from flying helis I guess...
Mark,
Sounds like the new 450 is off to a rough start...sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time getting it going.
Hopefully now with a decent ESC and motor, you can get a maiden in...
I didn't get a lot of flying in this past weekend, had some cleaning and other stuff going on....and now with this wall of heat coming in, not sure if I'll get much flying in this week, until it cools down some, but I may sneak in a few flights in the evenings after sundown...
Hope you guys stay cool...I'm going to try to!
Glenn

Sorry Glenn for the heat wave your going through right now...looks like you and Nick are sharing the hot and humid nastiness of summer. [] We are not too far off as our temps have been creeping to the upper 90's this week, so I'm sure we'll be seeing some 100's by August.
JPEE,
Absolutely a great story...I loved it!! Doing your own airshow for your fellow campers. I'm sure if I were in your place I'd have shaking knees to go along with the fingers. But sounded like a blast...and some 4-wheelin to end the day. Who can compete with that?!
Well guys, got my Align ESC and Align 450M motor installed...and got my TT conversion (did the Xheli conversion) installed so may be looking at a test hover in the morning. Getting kinda excited about it now.
Been messing around with the mcpx in the mornings but nothing serious as I'm flying while watching my son in the front yard, but its nice to get some stick time here and there. And I know he enjoys watching the little heli fly around the yard.
Anyone going to be up at 5:53 tomorrow morning to see the last shuttle landing? Planning on waking up to go outside and see if I can hear the double sonic booms all the locals talk about around here.
Mark

Mark,
That is good you got a good deal on the motor and ESC. I will probably be up till my usual time of 5am Central time, but I probably couldn't hear or see the shuttle.
John,
It sounds like you had fun out in the desert.
Glenn,
Sorry you are getting my heat wave.

Hey guys,
Not much new here, the heat wave has officially arrived, heat indexes in the 110~115 range today and tomorrow...[X(]
It literally feels like a sauna when you walk outside from the A/C....I can't remember it feeling this hot/humid in a long time...
I did get 5 flights on the MCPX last night, it was still about 80 degrees at 8PM..
Mark,
Hope you maiden goes well for ya....
I didn't see the landing of the space shuttle....a tad bit early for me...
Nick,
Looks like your temps have dropped a bit at least, hope it's more bearable now.
I'll have to wait until Sunday for any relief it sounds like here....

RE: are these blades any good for cp pro?
Hello Guys,
Had a fair day flying today, I only got in two packs in on 500-2 as it was very hazy and hot.
Talk about luck. I was doing a preflight check on the heli shaking and checking screws and such. All came out ok to the eye, or so I thought! I flew pack one and all was well. However with pack two I heard and un-familiar
ticking sound. I landed immediately and after extensive checking I found that the grub screw on the tail shaft that holds on the blade grip assembly on had backed out just enough (it had been Loctited) to where it was ticking
from the shafts flat spot to the round...... or so I thought. I re-Loctited it and off we go thinking all was well. Again right after lift-off there is a ticking again so I landed. Bob walked out and said; taker her up to low hover. He
could see something moving from the side, it was a boom strut that had lost its screw into the main frame bottom. So I sat down and again and went over every screw with a "driver" and found one more loose BUT not to the
eyes. It was a screw for plastic and it had stripped out. Then I took a driver and plugged that into every screw I and noticed the shouldered washer that is under another screw was loose between the head and the frame. Once
that was reset all was well. So I finished that pack and called it done for the day, it was getting busy with guys driving in to the lot (me no like crowds).
Glenn, man you do have some heat and humidity as I guess Nick and Mark have. Man you guys must miserable back there. Glad you both got some evening (glenn) and morning (mark) flights in.
Mark, I hope you got to at least hear the BOOM! from the shuttle. I like the other guys hope the new motor and ESC are a winner for you.

Hey guys,
Last night, at 11PM, the news said the heat index temp was 105 degrees....
Today on the way home from work, the radio said the heat index temp at Reagan Airport in DC was 120 degrees...[X(]
It literally feels like walking into an oven when you go outside...the hottest weather I can recall for years....
Probably not going to be doing a whole lot of flying this weekend!
Hope everyone is doing well....

Hi Guys,
Well I am disappointed to tell you that the skies here were extremely hazy and it was hot hear and I wanted to take a video for you. I had taken two cameras to the field for this purpose. It seems like a life time ago
but I was flying my helis and doing the nose over tumbles and back flips in twos and threes before coming out of them. I used to be able to do barrel rolls or corkscrews too. Well I have been using the old sim and today
I got back my barrel rolls or spirils or corkscrews in horizontal flight! Was I smiling today or what let me tell you. I did these today over the bushes and low trees in the river bed so "IF" I lose the heli it won't hit the ground
and rocks but rather come down in the 8' shrubs thus minimizing my damage. Man they were freaking text book barrels let me tell ya. Me happy!
Also today at the field this guy that is very skilled but does "no" pm on his equipment and flies dangerously "in my opinion". He has a host of helis and can fly with the best, but today he took a 600E with 6S and 5000 mAh
pack and the old 600L motor with a 100 amp esc and flew the freaking snot out of it! When he landed you could see the heat com off of it. My (new) noob who has the same heli touched the motor and BLISTERED the end
of his finger. He said the ESC was near RED HOT too and battery was the same. This heli should have like a 12 on it and he had a 15. This cranked the R's up there but was killing everything else. I had already left by this
time but my noob was still there so he called to update me. Then he went back later this afternoon and the guy had taken that 600 heli back up and flew it so hard the ESC exploded and caught fire in the heli and the whole
she-bang hit the deck and it was a flaming total pile of ashes. He said the runway has a huge circle scorch on it. Some guys hey?
Glenn, that must be unbearable heat!

RE: are these blades any good for cp pro?
Glenn,
That is good you got a few flights on the mcpx a few days ago.
It was in the upper 90's yesterday. I am getting used to the heat as long as I don't do much outside. I have just stayed inside flying on the sim.
John,
That is good you caught the loose screws. You might try using green loctite on the set screw for the tail hub. I always thought green loctite didn't hold as strong as blue, but after MA recommended it on the Furion I had a hard time loosening that screw.
It sounds like you had a good day flying.
That is too bad his 600 came down in flames. I don't think a 6S setup should be used on a 600 for hard 3D. My 12S setup comes down just a little over ambient after a 3D flight. My battery is usually around 100 and my motor and ESC are usually around 120.

Good Morning Nick!
Yes you are right! only a fool would push a 600e 6S system that hard. In life you get what you pay for, foolishness will get you fire and a crash.
I sure am a believer in the Sim, as I posted above it is really helping me get back the skills I lost over time. Even thought it is an older G4.5 Real Flight she works just fine.
Have a good weekend and take care, JPEE

RE: are these blades any good for cp pro?
Good morning everyone,
Successful maiden yesterday!! My new 450 really took me by surprise...I guess I was half expecting it to self-destruct upon take off or the gyro to not hold or a servo strip in flight, but no...it flew amazingly. I guess I got used to the flying style of the 550 so the zippiness of the 450 caught me a bit off guard. I forgot how much fun these little birds are. I was zooming around the front yard and really trying to contain my goofy smile as my neighbors were watching...composure please! I actually did a few flips, rolls, and a bit of invert hover...and that little clone bird did it with no problems, in my front yard no less. The weather has been hot (not as bad as Glenn and Nick []) but an afternoon storm did a good job of cooling things off so I could get my maiden in. (what is it about my 450 maidens and stormy weather?)
JPEE,
Totally incredible story of that guys 600 catching fire...but if you don't respect the machine and the limits then expect the worst. Glad no one got hurt, except one guys pride. [&o]
Sounds great on getting back those barrel rolling skills...I have laxed a bit on the sim but need to get back on it...kinda been using the mcpx as my sim.
Good catch on the boom strut...nothing worse then having a noise that has no apparent cause.
I did get to hear a tiny sonic boom from the shuttle landing...it came in from the south and so bypassed Orlando entirely so I didn't get to see anything but did get to hear it. The moon was out so I was a bit curious if it did come over Orlando if I would have seen the contrails that come off it in the moonlight? That would have been really cool. Nick, are you absolutely sure you didn't hear anything???
Looks like another week of record breaking heat up north and out west...Glenn and Nick, you guys are getting it worse then I am and I hope there is some kind of relief for you soon, I'm sure your yards are crunchier then mine is.
Mark

Hey guys,
Well, the heat wave left....thank goodness for that!
Today is warm, but very low humidity, so it's actually quite nice in comparison.
Mark,
Congrats on the sucessful maiden, sounds like it exceeded your expectations, which is always nice!
JPEE,
I have not seen a heli catch on fire yet, but I know they do...Justin had to put one out last season, same thing, overheated/exploded ESC...[X(]
Nick,
Glad you are coping with the heat, and making the best of it with the sim indoors....like Mark, my MCPX is now my sim...
I'm hoping to get some flying in this week in the evenings, while the weather is holding....I see where another hot spell is coming by week's end, my forecaster says 100 by Friday... It probably won't be as bad as that last one, that would be hard to top!

Hi Guys,
Glenn, I am glad your heat wavwe and come down a bit and your getting some night flghts in.
I wrote Steve NEU a letter and told him I was flying at 90% flat line and that my packs were waaaaaaay to hot after landing. My 600e with his motor kicks ***** let me tell you...... but it is hard on a 6S pack. So I asked
him to lay out a 48 vt HV NEU motor and preferred ESC, I am interested what he has to say. He has answered my other emails before and seems to be a "right guy". I have been doing my homework and the other guys
flying 12S are using 3,000 mAh packs OH BOY I fly those in my 500. So.......... if I but more 3k packs I can use them in the both the 500 and 600's "if" I go that route. Just testing the waters.

RE: are these blades any good for cp pro?
He's Baaaaack!
He Guys, your all pretty quite out there?
Went to the field late yesterday with Bob and Jason and had a pretty good time. I had some mechanical problems though. I did a total total total pre flight on the 500. That means I checked "every" screw and connection.
I flew the first pack and had a ball. On pack two, I just got off the ground and heard a ticking sound, much like a tooth missing off gear. I brought the heli back to the pits and could only find that the belt was a bit iffy on
tightness. If forced I could make it skip a tooth on a pully, so I made that adjustment. I set her back out and got up about 8 feet and the ticking was there "but" I could see a boom strut vibrating. Yes, a boom strut had
cracked an broke just beyond the screw hole after the first flight it appeared so she got benched for the day and I rolled out the 600-1 for the rest of the afternoon. Then on my last pack in the 600 as I landed a guy yelled
out that my blades were out of tracking. He came out and we lifted the heli to a hover and they were waaaay out. I can only assume a link might have slipped a thread or something of that nature. I will go over that today
along with replacing the boom strut on the 500. All in all it was a great evening.
On my 600 hot batteries I dropped my flat line idle-up from 90% to 82% and that made a big difference and I still was able to pull off all of my stunts. Next time out I will drop it down to a flat 80% and see how low I can go
and still my fun and save the batteries. I can say without reservation, that 90% that heli screams!
Take care all John
O-BTW one of the guys has a 500-600 with V-bars.... wow they rule, they are so stable it is incredible.

Glenn,
Did you get any flights in? I thought about flying yesterday, but it started to sprinkle. I just went back inside and stayed there.
John,
It looks like you are keeping the thread alive. I have been lazy and didn't feel like doing much.
That is cool you are thinking about going 12S. I am happy with my 12S 2600mAh setup.
That is good you enjoyed flying a few days ago.
Happy B-day Mark.

That is cool you are thinking about going 12S. I am happy with my 12S 2600mAh setup.
That is good you enjoyed flying a few days ago.
Happy B-day Mark.
Nick
RE: are these blades any good for cp pro?
Hi Nick,
Your right it is just you and me keeping some posts up here LOL. It was pouring this morning and HOT. Very humid and for
me a Cali boy it is "horrible". No flying here under these clouds, as you know that makes for lost orientation!
Have a good weekend JPEE

RE: are these blades any good for cp pro?
Hey guys,
I'm still here, just in summer hibernation mode, I guess...the hot, humid weather kinda dampens my heli spirits a bit....
Last time out with the MCPX, I had a link pop off in mid flight, so I have to replace those, not sure if it's those that are worn or the swashplate balls...I'll try the links first....
I'll probaby get a few flights in this week in the evenings...it's still in the 80's, even at sundown....[&o]
JPEE,
Glad someone is keeping the thread going....between you and Nick...I'll try to get on here more, but there's nothing much new to report lately...
Glad you had fun with the guys the other night....sounds like you had a good time....
Mark,
Happy Birthday!
Nick,
I've go the "lazies" too lately...I guess it's the mid-summer blues...I'm already tired of hot, humid weather, and it's only August 1st..
I think I'll liven up some come September...
Take care all....
Glenn

JPEE, Nick, and Glenn...thanks for the B-Day wishes. Can't believe you caught that! I actually had a very nice one...I got to go to Red Lobster (yu-ummy) then got an icecream cake from Baskin Robbins (super yu-um)! Figured my 450 I got a few weeks ago did for a nice Bday gift. All in all not bad for a dreaded 38.
I too have been in a summer semi-hibernative mode...Glenn, great description. My mcpx has been shelved since my last outing it had the shakes really bad in the middle throttle range so a servo cleaning is in major need. Got a DeoxIT kit from Radio Shak (latest suggestion from Helifreak) so will see how that does on the wipers. Just need to sit down and get the job done.
Glad JPEE and Nick have been keeping diligent in keeping the thread alive.
Oh uh JPEE, are you considering FBL?

Mark,
Mark,
I appreciate you saying your 38. Had you said your were 39 I'd ah let go with so many Jack Benny
jokes you would have died.
Yes I did remark abouttje V-Bar the guy has on his 500-600s and they are extremely impressive to say the least. Tonight he brought a new used Mikcado 500. That son of a gun is whisper quit and tucked and rolled like a Swiss watch.
No, no V-Bars for me, I'll stick with old school.
Take care my friend. JPEE
