RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Morning all!
Hey... I need a needle extender for both a Saito 62 and a 125 so that I can tune the high end with the cowls on. Any recommendations? All I've been able to find so far is an OS one. Thanks

I bought my first one, until I saw it was just a piece of wire. Now I make them out of pushrod wire left over. I also grind a flat spot where the set screw holds it. That way it doesn't slip and I know where to turn it to align the set screw to remove the cowl. By making your own, you can put the 90º at the perfect place for your particular cowling. I put a bit of nylon pushrod sleeve around the rod to minimize the vibration effects against the fiberglass cowling.

DP. I like to use a 2-56 socket head screw about 1/2 inch long and stick a ball driver through a small hole in the cowl, that way there is nothing long to punish the needle valve O-ring and nothing sticks out of the cowl.

That is a rocking idea.
Can you provide a photograph for our viewing pleasure?

This is my Saito 2.20 which is going into a 95" Hangar 9 Cessna 182. Also this is where the real "terrible towel" is, the ones at the Super Bowl were fake.

I had to change from a .91 to a 125 in one of my warbirds and presumed I'd have to drill another hole for the new location of the HS needle wire. I guess I might have gotten lucky and they line up exactly the same....
But either way, I'll try your wonderful idea. Thanks.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
G'day I have 11 Saitos ranging in size from the diminutive 30 to a upper mid size 120. They are all great engines but they do need some running in and familiarization to give their best. They almost always come with the LSN set very rich and they do need about an hour of running before you can get them to idle properly. I would suggest that if you are going to invest such a lot of time, cash and effort in building the B25 that you also buy a cheap 60 size trainer to get the engines some air time and to help you to become familiar with them. I use a large 60 size trainer called the Boomerang 60 which is solid and does this well. I have had engines up to 91 size in it and it makes a great platform for getting to know my larger Saitos. I do the same with the smaller ones by putting them in a Sig Kadet Senior. I am currently fitting a Saito 72 to one Kadet for just this purpose. I found with a previous 72 that it took about an hour and a half of flying for the engine to give its best. You can see the improvement in each day's flying. Enjoy your Saitos. I do.

Jim, I talked to Bobby today about getting another Saito .62, it doesn't look like the second one will ever be found. The pair will be going on a Hangar Dual Ace.

SAITO FA90T Needs Help![hr]
I bought an FA90T New from Japan when they came out.
I have never opened it or played with it.
Now I find it is stiff and will not turn over.
What can I do to put this NIB engine back into perfect operating condition?
ANY CONSTRUCTIVE ADVICE IS WELCOME![]

Put some fuel or solvent into the glow plug holes and crankcase vent and let it soak a few days.
On the 90T you can pull the back plate and try to get fuel or solvent down through the bearings to free them

Hello mike109.Have just ordered the rainbow kit but they say it's a one point six mtr wingspan kit and the one at the field looked smaller, was it?
If it's that big i'll put my 62 in it,what do you think?

Me either. I think I flew my .56 for two or three years without touching any of the needle valve adjustments.

I wouldn't admit to something like that, Barry.
I can see not bothering with the LSN, but the HSN should be checked before the beginning of the first flight every day, to my way of thinking. You never know when a piece of fuel tank debris will break loose and affect your HSN mixture. A stupid reason to shorten the useful life of an engine.

If it runs OK, I don't mess with the needle valves.
But my real point earlier was that the low speed needle valve rarely needs touching once it is set correctly.

Thanks for the note W8ye. Any suggestions as to which solvent? I've place other engines in plastic coffee cans full of fuel for weeks and they never loosened up.
I'd sure hate to harm this little jewel. I flew it's twin (another FA90T) on a biplane for years with no problems. It would be nice to have a twin engine, twin cylinder fly by!
Thanks in advance.
