RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hi dave and can inderstand why you treasure that engine so much.Looking forward to inverting this one as unlike the decathlon with my 82 in it this one has room to play with fuel tank heights.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Guys, some months ago I asked for the instructions for two old FA-45, and Hobbsy promptly reached out for me - once again, thanks buddy
After a short and embaressed time on my Avistar, one of them - and probably the other one, though both have good compression when cold - will certainly need a new piston ring, as when hot it turned by hand very easily, needing a good shot of fuel down the exhaust pipe - so I'm certain it would turn just by staring at it for some time.
My doubt is: can I just quote the engines as being FA-45 MKII or, for instance, does the ring from the FA-45S fit?
Thanks guys! [8D]

All the 45's are the same MK I, MK II, & 45S

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
quick question. I am just about to order a saito 60 twin and I was wondering if this engine comes with the two flex pipe mufflers or do I need to order them separatly.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
G'day I have just bought a Saito 90TS twin and it came with two flex pipes so I suspect that the 60T does too. I did find the supplied pipes on the stiff side and suspect they will not be very robust in use. I think I will use Turbo headers or a Keleo system eventually when the engine goes into its Goldberg Cub which is currently under production.

There is a Saito exhaust you can use also

these Saito exhausts will fit your 60T or 90TS or 90T and 100T as far as that goes
On the 60T & 90TS you need to use a right angle adapter

You can also use this system
http://www.macspro.com/four_parts.asp
The threads are 10 X 1 mm and with the 60T & 90TS typically need a right angle adapter
You can get a right angle adapter and Turbo muffler together that will work great also
The threads are the same as the Saito 56

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The Saito 60T was designed with the 1/5 scale Cubs in mind.
Then people wanted a twin strong enough for a 1/5 Cub on floats and Saito made the 90TS
The power of the 90TS would be a lot like your 82

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
G'day W8YE I was replying to David George when he asked whether he would have to order an exhaust for a 60T he is going to buy. My 90TS came with an exhaust but I suspect it is not really up to much. I like the look of Hobbsy's set up with the two Turbo headers and the right angle adaptors. I think there will be some Turboheaders in my future plans (and planes). I have a flexible system on my 120S but it looks clunky and is not exactly quiet so I think I will investigate the Turbo header for it. It is in a H9 1/4 scale Cub which it hauls round really well.
Someone mentioned putting a Saito 82 in a Goldberg Cub. I had an OS 70 Surpass in one and that was total overkill so the 82 would be even more extreme (but possibly quite fun though as it is not as heavy as the 70 I suspect). The Goldberg cub was happy with an Enya 46 4c, very happy with an OS 52, very very happy with an ASP 61 and totally over the top with the Surpass 70. Scale speed was about 1/3 throttle. "Spitfire" speed was full throttle.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Thats all i have right now..Well 4stroke anyway. I have a saito 82 and an fa80....I have a few 2 strokes but that just don't seem right on a cub..
My Feedback: (16)

The only two strokes that work well in a 1/5 Cub is the cheap bushing type 40's. Anything else like a OS 46FX just doesn't work. You cannot run the larger two strokes that slow for that long without them loading up. A four stroke can run slow all day.

So the twin would be a waste of a good motor on the cub? I guess I should pick up a 56 or something this weekend at the lebanon pa swap meet

The 56 would be great in a 1/5 scale 80" Cub
But there's nothing like using a 60T twin or a 90TS in a Cub. There was a guy on here the other day with a 100T odd firing twin in his Cub.
But the 60T is good enough.
The picture is of a cut away 90TS

I have seen those ads for $400 dollar saito 60 but I couldnt wait any longer. The saito 60t will be my first twin I just ordered tonight. But I bought mine from Espirt Model for $617 shipped. A little bit cheaper than horizon but not much.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
G'day
A friend has this on his flight box.
"He who dies with the most toys wins." He has lots of toys.
So long as you subscribe to this, the cost of engines is simply an inconvenience and not something to be worried about. I am retired and not rich but I have enough to be able to buy a few engines and models each year. Lately I have been funding the larger purchases by selling old computer stuff I have been hoarding for 20 years on a certain auction site. It is amazing how much people will pay for certain types of old computer gear. I recently sold some S100 computer cards and a very tired keyboard for over AU$400. This is payback for being a long term hoarder.
I buy planes so that I can get my engines into the air. Now I know most people buy engines to power their planes but for me it has always been the other way round. So I happily paid nearly AU$900 for my 90T and only AU$150 for the kit of the Goldberg Anniversary Cub. I am building it as a WWI "grasshopper" but what I am looking forward to most is the sound of it as it putters past low and slow and not how it looks.
