Hi could someone give me some rev figures for a Saito 120 at the moment i am getting 9300 on the ground with an APC 15x6 and 15% nitro. on the ground.
The aircraft/engine seems reluctant to rev out in a dive and sounds like its running on 3/4 throttle, someone suggested putting in an air scoop on the cowle to get more air into the back of the cowl as it may be starving for Oxygen, i have done that as it makes sense but have not flown it yet to test it.
As well as the 15x6 could someone give me other prop sizes and revs that they get, a ball park number would do as props and conditions are all different, just so i have a base to work to.
The aircraft weighs 14 pound and is a Hurricane.

The Saito 120 was made for many years and there are many variations
Is yours a straight 120 or a 120S? The last 15 yrs they made the 120S
The performance you describe would be correct for a old style 120

G'day Saito people.
On Sunday I flew my No1 Saito 56 for the first time in a couple of months. It is now about 7 years old and has probably done several hours flying as it is in the trainer I use for teaching new comers. It has always been a consistent performer. I had oiled it and was having difficulty getting the electric starter to turn it over so I resorted to the finger treatment. As a result, it started first flick. Backwards. It ran for about 15 seconds before we could stop it. Next flick it was running normally and flew as it always does.
Half an hour later I tried to start it again. As Bluebottle would say " No sausages." It simply would not fire. The plug checked out OK, there was fuel at the carby but it was simply not getting fuel to where it was needed.
I packed up and went home and did some thinking on the way. What would stop it running or even firing with a good plug and fuel at the carby. Answer - No fuel getting to the cylinder. Why? And then I remembered. These engines have an O ring at the head where the inlet from the carby enters the head. Perhaps it had been dislodged by the reverse running? And sure enough. When I looked at the engine, the O ring was not where it should have been but pushed out slightly.
This particular engine has had a bit of a history. It has had at least two bad crashes both of which broke the carby mount off the backplate and, I suspect, slightly bent the fuel inlet tube. I also noticed that the 56 does not have a step in the tube which would push the washer and O ring into the head. Some other models seem to have this and some don't. I think it may be time for a new inlet tube and O ring. And time to run in the new 72 in my backup trainer.

Recently I switched over to 4 cycle from 2 cycle my collection of Saitos are now 2 Saito 100's one is on my Aeroworks Edge 540t 40-61 the other is on my easy stik 60 I also have a Saito 56 which is mounted on a Great Planes Gee Bee profile. I also own a Saito 82 which is presently looking for a plane to sit on so far all have given me fairly decent performance other than a problem with the 100 on the Edge leans itself out during flight a problem I am sure I can get around.

Yeah, I've used the nylon three blade gray Graupners here in West Oz. Most shops will carry them or get them in for you.
Pretty easy to come by. Just remember to boil them before you use them.

Here's my recently finished GP 1/12 P-47 powered with a Saito 30. It flies well with a MA 10x6, but I'm considering a 4-blade prop.
Can anyone suggest an ideal 4-blade for this application?

I usually use this chart to find out what 3 or 4 blade prop to use.

But it looks like Zinger at least don't make 4 bladers for that size.
