What are the chances I can pull a Saito .65 off the bottom of a marsh/swamp/pond with a magnet? It's got to be down there (8') somwhere. The motor mount snapped in half and took the engine, cowl and prop down with it. I'm thinking about getting a magnet from Home Depot, the kind used for picking up nails, and fishing for it that way. The entire area is swampy, even the grassy stuff is in +2 ft of water. Is there enough steel in the engine to pick it up? The plane was recovered from the swamp, minus engine. Where I am at in the picture it's atleast 8' deep. We tried using a rake but the bottom is thick weeds. Any tips?

I Have A Saito 82 Fa That Was Sent Back To Horizon Hobby For Repair. It Was New Out Of the Box And Was Broke In Per Instructions. Dont know What the problem Was But it Would Run For A Little While And Stop,Try To Retart And it would kick back Pretty Hard. Would not Start Till It cooled Down. This Went On Till I Got Fed Up With It. Did Any Of You Guys Out There Have This Kind Of Problem?

How about a long-handled net like they use for scooping up fish or for cleaning pools?
And, if you happen to snag it and lose it again, have a float (say, a weight, a 10-ft piece of string, and a fishing bobber or piece of styrofoam) to mark the spot. You can toss it right in where you think that the engine is.
My guess is that the engine broke off when it hit the water's surface and is perhaps a couple of feet away from where you picked up the plane.
Just my $.02

Yeah, but those powerful magnets are like 5 to 10 bucks max. Heavy enough to penetrate the muck and latch on. That's what will be needed. These things are hard to find when the lake is DRAINED. I know, we drained the lake here outside San Antonio and NONE of the many motors and engines were found. And like you, we had a good rough idea of where they were.

you have it too lean . As it was broken in per instructions and ran fine right ? Only to start messing up when you leaned the needles out and maybe went too far on the LSN?
Did you try adjusting the needles some ? Any case its back at Horizon so they should be able to tell you whats up.

If there are a lot of aluminum cans tossed in that pond, then they could make metal detecting a major pain since most of the engine is aluminum too. I would notch out aluminum, and just search for ferrous hits.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
That is to funny that you would bring that up, I was flying the cub yesterday and the right piston wouldnt stay running. Then I could even get it to start. This is on the 90TS.
After screwing around and checking glow plugs, Pulled the valve cover and found one of the push rods was not opening the valve . Put it back on the back side of the valve rocker, but would stay there.
The engine only has 3 flights on it. So I am going to send back to Horizon for repair.
Not sure what happen?????

Often problems like this are related to inverted mounting?

Well, the Mayhem flew today! Motor is still tight, so I _think_ I only got about 8 minutes (12oz tank - need to see what came stock). Flew well though.

HEY GUYS,
I'M THE NEW GUY ON THE BLOCK. I HAVE A 72 IN A 40 SIZE P51 MUSTANG (AWSOME) I BOUGHT A HANGER 9 P51D MUSTANG I50 AND PUT A FA220 IN IT. THEN I SAW THE SAITOFG36 GASUNBELIEVEABLE. IT SWINGS A 20 - 8 PROP AT 8000 RPM. GREAT RESPONSE . THE UNBELIEVEABLE PART IS I CAN IDLE IT DOWN TO 50 (FIFTY) RPM. IT SOUNDS GOOD IN THE MUSTANG..

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I've been flying Saitos for about 30 years, first was a .45 which is still running. I'm actually a big 4-stoke fan, flying OS, Webra, Enyas, and YS in the .20 to 1.20 size all are good runners except the Webras. I have too many Saitos, OS, and Enyas 4 strokers alone to count and they all good runners. Most of the 4-strokers I bought were ones from people who could not set up properly. I will fly gas motors for any airplane over 1.20. Nothing in the world like the sound of a flight of warbirds doing a flyby with a 4-stroke humming right along. I haven't met a 4-stroke motor I didn't like, well Webras did push my upper limit button at times.
