RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
That's good news. I thought the 90t was comparable to the 82 in power. Something to do with the extra friction from the additional moving parts.

Boy, Hobbsy hit it on the head.
I have several Fa56's, a couple Fa62's, a couple Fa90T's and a Fa90R3 and a pair of Fa100's; judging only by measuring same prop RPMs the 90R3 radial exhibits a very disappointing power output just over that of the 56's and a good bit under the 62's with a significant wieght penalty. Meanwhile the 90T performs a good deal better than the Fa62 and not dissapointingly below the 100. With to 90T's I never had to have onboard glow drivers for idle/mid range dependability once they were broken in. The 90 radial seems, from consensus, to absolutely require a booster to keep the lower left cyl lit. (yet more wieght penalty) Some have had good luck running it W/O a glo-driver...not me.
14x8 MAS wood-peak RPM avg:
Fa100=9400
Fa90T=8800
Fa62=7500
Fa90r3=6700
Fa56=6300
I used the 14x8 prop since it was what I had on the 100 and tuned for. I left the tuning as it was on the the others and just ran the 14x8 prop on them for the #'s.
Omega 15% nitro castor/synth blend.
The 90R3 is really a dog in the H-9 Sopwith Camel...a real bummer 'cause it looks so cool in there. Going to put one of the 90T's back into it and hopefully my Kyosho Fw190 will carry the 90R3. If not, as far as I'm concerned, that radial is just an expensive bench motor/conversation piece. even so I'll keep it since I'm actually quite attached to it.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I was tickled to death with the 90R3 in the SopCam initially.
Then as I got used to the take offs, landing and level flight characteristics of the plane and got every thing trimed out and tweaked I tried some more "adventurous'' manuevers... That's when things got a bit disappointing. It has a hard time maintaining altitude or stable airspeed in a roll..one or the other, but not both. Climb is lackluster and loops from level flight virtually impossible. Nice loops and rolls are do-able if you first climb, build speed from a moderate dive and then do the manuever using the the speed thus gained. keep in mind this plane disapates airspeed fast. It looks great and sounds even better, I just need a little (not much) more than a level oval cruiser.
Back to all things Saito...All of the previously mentioned motors now start within 2 or 3 flips after lighting the plug(s). Just never can predict whether they're going to prefer a forward or backward flip of the prop. Wish I could say the same of the few OS's Ive got.[]

Does anyone have info or links to a suitable f8f bearcat for the 450 saito radial? apparently the 170 triple powers the 70" model well.Cheers all.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Jim, per our phone conversation I verified the 12mm for the 1.15 by screwing it into my old .80, the 1.15 has a different jam nut than the others. Has anyone seen this on any other of the newer Saitos, Thanks, Dve

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I have made some changes based on some feedback and have deleted the other reference for the Saito 180 strip down.

Hi gagee yes i've looked at that one.Cowl needs to be about a foot round so i can fit the engine in scale like and wonder if a 450 would pull a model that size well.It would need to be bashed into shape a bit to look scale re canopy and a good look inside too thanks mate.

Here's a more true to scale model but it's only 82" wingspan and I'm not sure if you can stuff the big 4.50R in that cowl.

Actually Scott, the TS 90 is very close to the .91 single in power, the .90 triple now, that is weak compared to the .91.

If I hadn't heard it from you, I probably would have been skeptical about the TS-90 twin being very close in power to the FA-91 single. Usually, the twins produce about 2/3rds the power of their single cylinder cousins.
We should remember that when Clarence Lee did the initial review of the FA-91 single that he was very impressed with the engine for its stump pulling power, as he put it. So it isn't as though we are comparing the TS-90 to a weak single cylinder .91 four-stroke.

Many thanks gagee for that link i had'nt seen it.Looks perfect and i can add a couple of carbon strips where needed.If the 450 won't fit i have a 220 single that will probably sound better,thanks mate

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hi w17cpa
The setting is 1.5 turns in from flush with the throttle arm. Having said this I just reassembled an Ebay 180 and adjusted it in about 2.5 turns and it affected my high speed throttle setting so I plan to put it back to 1.5 and hope to get 9000/9300 rpm . Currently I am only getting 8300.
Best regards
Kevin
