RE: Skymaster 1:6 A10 Build
I advised Ali a while ago about the need for a FOD guard if using the fans as its the only sensible option.
They are certainly not resin cast and if they were I wouldn't be using them other than static display. 99% sure looking at them that its a 3D printer, the blades are really tough and its obviously all one unit that's balanced very well. I spun them up with around 150psi to check for any problems and all's good not sure what rpm I got but they were creating a big draft. I'm encouraged that they have proven themselves on two models so far. My concern is less for the fans failing due to poor construction and more to do with any FOD that hits them and damages the blades...
I do think they are considerably stronger than a resin cast fan would be.

They are printed. 8 flights now including a "best scale award flight" with the blades and no problems. Pictures to follow.
A FOD is a wise choice on any jet, not just a10...

Hi Morne,
Congrats about your awards on the SM A10! Can you tell us more about the flying characteristics? what do you like and dont? and the areas of attention? are the retracks working OK and holding position during aerobatics?
We do need some more nice videos of the SM A10 in the air..... so far the ones I have seen so so.
I am not surprise about the ABS fans holding quite well. I also do lots of 3D printing in resins and nothing compare with the flexibility and strength coming from a 3D printing capable to output to ABS plastic.
Regards,
Gonzalo

will do Marc......I'll do it tonight as I've put the model away for the week, this assembly is never ending by far the most amount of work to date I've put into an ARF jet .....getting fed up looking at it so working on some of my own projects. Ali doesn't want it till the end of April anyhow.
How exact do the measurements need to be? I only ask as the fan units have been hysoled in place so measurements will suffer with parallax error and its hard to know where the depth starts etc... I can give you a rough idea though.
Cheers, Alex

Alex the actual diameter of the fan unit would be good and maybe the overall depth. If it comes with an intake duct then the rough diameter of this at its opening.

From memory there's not enough room for a PB cockpit and switch, barely room for the LCD display and switch on the PB royal. I will check for you as I have a new PB cockpit floating around.
Hi Marc, haven't done those measurements yet, I'd forgotten all about it [&o] sorry...

I've been a bit slack updating this thread, trying to find time to sit at the computer is becoming a problem Just a quickie to show the results of the new pipe and shroud, its obviously not exact scale but a million miles better than whats supplied with the kit. The first photo shows what you get in the kit if you just install the SM pipes straight from the box, the next three show the upgraded pipes and shrouds which are available through Al's Hobbies. When I get time in the next few weeks I'll properly update the thread as my priority at the moment is getting this to Ali and finishing a few other customers models for mid May. (Don't worry Ali yours is first )
Cheers and Happy Easter.

We shall have them on the site after this long easter holiday weekend. Our prices will be the same as Ilja's ( Not forgetting postage of course )
Indeed Ilja does produce them, but he he produces them for us ( Al's Hobbies) using my model as the prototype, and development basis.
Regards Al
