RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
Hello to all, Looking at a 3W 70T, and just wondering about "ya'll's" impressions of this engine. Must be discontinued as can't find much current info. So do you think parts would still be available for it? Thinking about an 8' GB Sportster. Thanx for your time

The 3w 70 has been out of production for quite a long time. There's a guy at another site that has one that was converted to an 80 he is willing to part with. Parts for the 70 can be scarce. Rings and bearings are no problem but pistons and cylinders could be hard to get. Very good engine if you find one in good to fair condition.

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
I priced ZDZ engines and considering the total price of a model airplane, the premium is not great at all...The 40cc RE is looking really good for a 2x2 .

Now that is a good point that you have raised - the cost of the model.
A nice home built model, perhaps designed and constructed by the owner, does or should warrant the spending of more money on an engine in order to buy a little more security in its performance and duration of use. It is one thing to stuff a $170 50cc engine into a Chinese P-40 ARF that sells for less than $200 and it is yet another thing to stuff said engine into a model P-40 that has taken a year or two to construct and finish.

Ain't that a fact
Especially if one also takes into account the number of models the engine is likely to be fitted to in its life. the economics work out even better for spending just that little bit more in the first place.

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
I learned a lesson Twice. Once when the Spark plug insert came loose on my P-47 that took me a year and nine months to build. RCGF-62. That didn't cost much just 2 weeks of redo. That was the best piloting I ever did to save a plane.
Then when The engine Quit very low to the ground in a bad attitude. JC-28. Almost saved it. Still needed $85 worth of parts. I think it was the tilt problem. The engine keeps costing more with each hick up.

That is one beautiful plane. Definitely take some video and show us when you finish it.

RE: Non Chinese Gas Engines
Hey Tom
I saw a thread recently where a guy was espousing the value of his very low cost purchase of a small capacity gasser. He then posted during the next few pages of the thread sorting out the problems and repairs to the plane. (Not the poster was not you or your P47 ) That guy obviously placed zero value on his time and zero on his flying time to enjoy his models - Each to their own it is a hobby and whatever turns ones crank is what makes a hobby a hobby. I like enignes that run pretty much straight out of the box (after simple checks and tuning) and stay that way - I prefer not to test my piloting skills with a stationary prop - I would fly Sailplanes if that was my passion. Whilst it isn't covered in the title of this thread, DLE seems to be doing that very well for people - but they do cost a little more than others from the same region (and that makes them fit into my sig line )
acerc - nice looking plane. Also looking forward to seeing some closeups of the final product.
I have only recently been able to find time to get back into genuine building of some planes. I guess I have found that time because I no longer have any need to "tinker" on maintenance issues that shouldn't be needed to start with (Airframe and engine related - not singling out any one thing with that).
Gives me an idea for a general topic thread. (What to look for in purchasing and building an ARF plane).

All products from China I try to avoid as much as possible! That is a hard task with all the junk China dumps in the US

Any time that I can buy an American (USA) made product, I do so. It is not easy to find most of the things being made in the US today.
As far as lightweight engines (two-stroke), nothing was available in the class of the DLE 20cc engine that I can recall, when I bought mine. At least nothing directly comparable.
Lots of folks here kind of think of Zenoah, 3W and a few other brands as being US brands simply because someone in the US waves their magic wand over the engines they sell. That doesn't make them US made engines, as much as I like the folks offering them for sale.
I don't see the Chinese remaining in business for much longer, if our depression deepens, and it might.

Incase anyone is interested.
Found Mufflers and Cans for the MVVS 116 here in the States. It's sold by Horizon at an almost reasonable price under the Evolution Brand.
