RE: KMP PITTS 12
Don,
the rudder and elevatorsurfaces are not already glued on.
It´s one of the last things to do.
For the pics there´s also 19x8 prop mounted instead of 20x10.
the reason ist that the spinner is not ready to take 20x10. Just for the pics.

Well.. I was working on mine today. Trying to tweek the engine out. Got it started but the idle on the G-38 is still a little high. I also need to hook up the kill switch to a servo.
I might take it to the field tomorrow if it's not too windy.
Later,
Dan

Asif,
It was too windy today. I flew my Twist and that went ok. My flying buddy got 3 of his fingers stuck in my prop while adjusting the engine. He had to go to the hospital for stitches. Ouch...
I took out the Giant-U-can-do to tweek out the engine but I had a fuel problem with the tank. It was too cold to fool around with it so I packed it in..
Does anyone have examples of how they have thier engine cutoff switches hooked up. I have one for the G-38 with a mechanical lever switch. I need to hook it to a servo and need some input.
Thanks,
Dan

RE: KMP PITTS 12
I was going thru a stack of old model airplane mag's and saw this plane. Wow, it sure has caught me eye.
Sorry to read about the one going in.
I think Santa is going to bring me something a little early this year. I've got a Saito 180 I'm going to pull out of my Extra 260 for this one. I hope it flys it well.

The KMP is a beautiful plane. I hope it flies as nice as it looks.
I ran up my motor yesterday , the G-38. After I got done with some adjustments my fiberglass fix to the nose cone didn't hold. It was flexing under torque. Soooo... Here we go, I have to unmount the motor and re- fiberglass it

RE: KMP PITTS 12
Hi guys,
I bought SPE 40 and tried to break-in the engine yesterday. The problem I ran into was that I flipped the propeller many time but the walbro carb would not draw fuel. Then I pushed the air from the vent to see if the fuel would go in the carb but without fail. The pressure builds up inside the fuel tank but still fuel would not flow in the carb, it seems that something is restricting the flow. I have checked the fuel tubing and it is correctly installed. The high speed needle is open 2 ½ round while low speed needle is open 1 ½ from fully closed position.
Can someone tell me what seems to be the problem?
I even disassemble the carb and as soon as I started to unscrew the screw the air started to pass through the carb, once I tighten the screw, the air could not pass through the fuel inlet. This is my second gas engine in years and I am not familiar with gas engine and walbro carbs at all. Please help.
Thanks
Asif

Hey Asif..
Hows it going? No fuel draw huh. The walbro carb pump diaphram may be the problem. Here is a great link for carb tuning:
http://tech.flygsw.org/walbro_tuneup.htm
I had a similar problem with my Brison. I replaced the gasket/diaphram and it works great now. Same problem that it wouldn't pull the fuel. I also used a Sullivan starter at 24volts to speed up the whole process.
Take a look at the link. It will give you some good insight.

Dan

Hey Dan,
Now the fuel is flowing from the carb, I can here a light buzzing sound from ignition module, but the engine doesnt fire up. I cant seem to figure whts wrong. What plug do you have in you engine. The manual recommends NGK spark plug but engine came with some other spark plug.
I am not sure if spark plug id the issue here or not
Regards
Asif

RE: KMP PITTS 12
Asif,
Here's what I would do to troubleshoot.
1. squirt a little fuel or engine starter fluid in the carb. Turn prop a few times to see if motor kicks at all. If it does you still have a fuel problem.
2. Take the spark plug out hooked up to the lead. Turn the prop and when the prop goes past the sensor it should have a spark.
3. if no spark or weak.. hook up a ground wire from ignition unit to engine case. Test. Makesure if battery has enough power. swap out with fresh one.
If you dont have a good bright spark I would suspect a faulty ignition unit.
The engine only needs 2 things to start .. fuel and spark.
Hope this helps Asif.
I still haven't maidened my Pitts. The cold is setting in here in the NorthEast and I'm only flying my small stuff. I'm going to wait until spring to fly this one I think.
Regards,
Dan

RE: KMP PITTS 12
Hi Guys:
There has been a review of the airplane done by one of the major magazines about 8 months ago (ish). I am almost positive it was FLY RC. I can post the info when I get to the office tomorow and look into it a bit more.
They did say that with a Saito 1.80 or better it would be a stunning aerobatic performer. I think they tested it with a 1.50 which they said did very scale type aerobatic manuevers. Anybody using a 40cc engine should get all the performance they need.

Andrew,
I now own that very plane that was in the article. It was March MAN. The plane met with incident and I aquired it with Cabane and wing damage. Paul at your Company, KMP hooked me up with some covering, a new wing tube and those great KMP stickers. He's a good guy!. Anyway I documented the fix and was preparing to write a "fix" article for MAN.
It's a great looking plane.. My favorite so far.
Anyway..
Tripp ... What was the cause of your plane going down? Any investigation ?
Everyone else.. Way too cold and windy to fly in the North-East right now. My club has a new years day, first out to fly thing. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can tune up the thumbs.
All have a great holiday.. whatever you celebrate.

Dan

Any activity here?
Propwashed-- Did you ever rebuild? did you find the root cause of the plane going haywire?
Asif-- what's going on.. ? How's your plane coming?
Catman -- How's the weather out there?
As for me.. I put my Pitts away for the winter. I need to beef up my repair on the engine cone. When I thottled up the enine I noticed some flexing in the mount.
I picked up a PW 300 50cc and I bought an engine on ebay for it.. a Fuji 62 ei . Should go nicely in it.
I also am working on a Lanier 94" Edge that tower hobbies had a blowout sale on. That is a really nice bird and I started collecting stuff so I can finish it.. (need a 80cc zdz or da-85) . Other than that I'm trying to stay warm and fooling around with indoor heli's .. Good weather approaches soon.

The weather is going to be fine now, but very windy. So i´ve to wait.
But latest in March.
I´ll keep you informed about flighttesting.

RE: KMP PITTS 12
Hi,
Pitts 12 succesfully maidened. It is a real nice model. I was very impressed today.
It is easy to fly with enough expo (about 55% on ailerons).
And she´s also nice to land as long you have enough speed.
Please take the c.g. as posted in this thread some replies before, it is absolutely correct and works.
Best Regards from Vienna
